I bought this mower a couple of weeks back. I love it!! highly recommend.

    • Can it last an hour per charge?

      • I haven't timed it but It didn't run out of juice after a full charge when mowing my backyard, front yard and council strip. So that's all that matters to me.

I chose this particular mower because of all the good reviews it had.

        • How many square metres of grass do you have ?

    • Bought this last 20% off deal. Looked at the reviews online and was impressed. Upon using it exceeded my expectations further. My 30 min mow has turned into a 10 min mow with minimal effort.

Tell me how an electric mower can do the same lawn 3 times as quick? I would have thought the cheapest of petrol powered units would cut with similar times to a pretty beefy electric unit.

        • How can it be faster?

        • It's about 50% wider and much lighter than my old one. We have a trampoline and kids toys on the lawn and I can lift things with one hand while still pushing. I am really impressed with it.

        • @rabbit71:

Sounds like your old mower had an extremely small cut of around 33cm, was it a cheap electric? Even most cheaper petrol units seem to be >40cm base.

        • @kearnsy: It was a 4 stroke petrol one that was in the shed when we bought the house. I've had it for 8 years. A 3 to 1 ratio in time may have been a bit of an exaggeration, but definitely less than 50% of the time it used to take. I also don't need to shower after mowing the lawn which is a bonus. Best mow the lawn today as a reminder.

    56V Electric Lawn Mower

    Shocking deal !!!

  • Ah I need a 909 budget version

  • I was thinking about posting this too as it was rated the #1 cordless (battery) mower in this month's Choice magazine. Under $500 with cashrewards.

I bought the Ego 56v hedge trimmer a couple of weeks ago and it's great.

I was tempted to get this mower and the line trimmer, however I'm now undecided after discovering Masters now sell a 80v Kobalt mower and line trimmer - both available through the Masters Ebay store and part of the 20% off sale.

The mower has a steel deck, not plastic like the Ego - http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Kobalt-80V-53cm-Steel-Lawn-Mower-…

This is the Kobalt line trimmer - http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Kobalt-80V-16-Inch-Straight-Cordl… - I found a review on YouTube that compared this line trimmer with the Ego and this one came out on top.

Time to go to Masters and compare them both I think. It appears that you can't buy Kobalt 'skins' like you can Ego (at least not yet anyway), so if I bought a mower and trimmer I'll end up with 2 chargers and 3 batteries.

  • Got one from the last deal and happy with it.

  • I wont buy a mower with a plastic chassis (It does not like stones), also it says "Battery Lifeup to 45mins" so if you cant mow your lawn in 30minutes you`ll have to recharge before continuing.

This one comes with two batteries and a steel chassis…
    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Kobalt-80V-53cm-Steel-Lawn-Mower-…

I am in the market for a mower but I am leaning towards petrol or normal electric, just a pity you don`t seem to get large electric mowers.

    • Thanks added the deal.

    • you`ll have to recharge before continuing.

or get more batteries, take the flat one out, put the new one in, by the time that goes flat the other one will be back to close to being charged (maybe 80%), rinse and repeat and you can go all day if you want, take a break for lunch and it'll refill the battery completely. Same as if you used a tank of fuel in a petrol mower, you just refill the tank, not complain the tank is too small and give up for the day.

I see Bunnings has a Victa 60V battery mower, I am liking the look of 80V Kobalt though I don't have any info, more V is good.

I have a Sthil battery chainsaw

      • edit:

just a pity you don`t seem to get large electric mowers.

Makes no sense, extra weight etc when you can just grab an extra battery.

  • I got one from last deal as well. More than 100% happy with this mower. At the end I have almost every product from this company.

  • What is the noise like on these things? Details say 20% less than a Petrol mower but thats hard to define.

    • The old 2-stroke mowers were noisy, and high maintenance.

Now I have a 4-stroke that runs smooth, and costs a quarter as much as this electric, and starts first pull every time.
It might not last as long as the Ego (how is the build? Any plastic?), but it will outlast the Ego battery, and is much cheaper to replace.

I'm sure in ten or twenty years, electric will be best, but not at this price.

  • What utterly ridiculous comments in this thread.
I have the Ryobi 36V (with dual 18V 5amp batteries so I can use in my 15 other power & garden tools) and it mows the lawn easily and WAAAAAY quieter than a petrol mower ever could.
An 80V mower would last a ridiculous amount of time, probably over an hour.
Petrol mowers should be BANNED because of the ridiculous amount of carcinogenic gases they spew out

    • Also the time and knowledge to maintain it.

    • That is outdated thinking. Modern mowers are not especially noisy, and don't emit smoke.
Maintenance is even easier than recharging your electric mower. The only hard part on either is sharpening the blades.

      • +1

New cars don't emit smoke either
        FMD.
        Honestly, FMD

The voltage doesn't determine how long the battery/mower will last, rather the amp hour or capacity of the battery does e.g. 2 A/h, 4 A/h 6 A/h etc. The higher voltage should mean more power however

      • +1

the voltage doesn't determine how long the battery/mower will last, rather the amp hour

This is like the story of the blind men and the elephant :)

Runtime depends on power use, and battery capacity, Energy = volts x amp-hours. So a 4Ahr x 56V battery has the same capacity as a 28V x 8Ahr. It is just wired differently.

        • This is 100% correct

        • +3

You're correct - I probably wasn't clear either in that I was simply referring to the fact the battery's A/h is the indicator of how long it will last when comparing mowers of the same voltage….I knew what I meant :)

  • Last 20% ebay deal this mower got down to about $480, without cash back. So the price must have gone up a whole heap.

    • +1

Last time it was on sale at masters at the same time.

I bought one through the last sale and couldn't be happier with the mower.

  • I'm really tempted to get this for my old man

    • You should mow the lawn for your old man ….. ;-p

      • I'd need something like this EGO.. I'm too weak to push a petrol mower :P

        • They weigh the same. get a self-propelled petrol mower. Or pay a guy.

        • @manic:

Yeah so have to be petrol model I think.

        • @manic: I think you meant "or pay a MAN"

  • Yep, been $20 cheaper not too long ago but it's a great mower and worth the extra $$. My neighbours envy me whenever I fire this thing up (sounds no louder than your average vacuum cleaner) and would never go back to petrol…no chance!

  • i brought this weeks ago, just used once. very light, easy to use. only negative side is it does not come with rapid charger (30 mins full charge) compare to the standard (80mins full charge). other than that. all good. i am going to buy a EGO line trimmer skin this time. lol

  • Ok I'm contemplating to buy this. I just moved to a new property and have a very small frontyard to maintain. In the past, I've always paid someone to do it - about $50 per month. Obviously the mower will save me money in the long run.

My only concern is I'm not sure how much work involved and whether I can commit to it. For those who mow the lawn yourself, is it necessary to trim the edge of the lawn? Or will the mower do a decent job to keep the lawn tidy? How much work really is involved in DIY lawn mowing throughout the year?

    Thanks in advance!

Seen them at Masters, may just get one on special

  • +1

How long does the battery last in years, before you need to buy a replacement?

How much is the replacement battery?

    • $149 for 2Ah https://www.masters.com.au/product/101351942/ego-56v-2-0ah-l…
      $269 for 4Ah https://www.masters.com.au/product/101351951/ego-56v-4-0ah-l…
      $349 for 6Ah https://www.masters.com.au/product/101732884/ego-56v-6-0ah-l…

Not sure about the lifespan of the battery. But as long as you treat them well they should last for years.

Generally Li ion battery's like this would last 300-500 charges. (Google told me that not Ego)

Tips for improving lifespan of rechargeable Li ion batteries:
Do not leave on charge when not in use
Store below 26 degrees in a dry area
Perform a full charge every six months
      Keep battery clean

      • Any reason why the Ego line trimmer (skin only) isn't avaiable to click & collect from the Masters Ebay store? It's an option for all the other Ego tools, including the other Ego 'skins'

        http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/EGO-56V-Line-Trimmer-Skin-/331663…

        • +1

Sorry I'm not sure. I'll see if I can find out today

        • +1

I've email our online team to see if they can put it on

        • I emailed them about this the other day, they said no to click & collect ….
FYI, ego are bringing out the newer version of the strimmer in mid December, usa reviews for that version are pretty good.

        • @mt19:
That's odd - I don't understand why they allow click & collect on all the other Ego items (including battery's, chargers & spools) and not this.

I went to a Masters store in Joondalup yesterday (WA) and they have the new brushless trimmer in stock already. They also had a Ego brochure that I grabbed that had all the tools in it. According to the booklet, the brushless model is slower in terms of RPM and less runtime…which is odd for 'brushless'

I''ll upload a copy of the brochure shortly as it has some pretty good info in it which doesn't appear on their website.

        • That brochure would be great, I'm confused about the brushless one then as from reading the reviews I thought it would be better, it can take a thicker string etc.
Much confusion about which one to get to go with the blower I have.

        • +1

          @tight-ass:

Here's a copy of the brochure I was referring to above:

        • Awesome, thank you for that. I'm going to guess the run time is less as the motor is more powerful ? I will have 4.0 battery to slot into it so should be good.

          Thanks again.

This maybe a "plastic" lawnmower but its huge and sturdy, the EGO lawnmower is the future and I love mine, hey I should be paid for this crap :/
I bought mine on the last deal and only charged the battery once, can mow my lawns about 5 times and love how it can fold away and stand upright out of the way.

  • +1

    Price has dropped to $599.
So after 20% off, it comes to $479.20.

    • Thanks updated.

      • Please check the price again, in my store its $629. Looks like it may only be at one store not all stores.

        • It was $599 yesterday and has gone up to $629 today

        • @tonynkh:
And the Kobalt mower has shot up to $749 now

        • @tight-ass: The Kobalt mower was in last weeks catalogue that ended yesterday, not sure why the EGO showed for $599 but it is definitely $629 now, i've checked a bunch of stores in each state

        • @HunterOfBargains20: Looks like prices gone up for the current catalogue promo $100 off on $500 + spend

        • @step_andy: The price was always going to go back up as was indicated in the catalogue $674 save $75 that ran from 29/10 to 11/11.

  • +2

Masters have a promo Start on 12/11 so if anyone buy this from tomorrow it comes with bonus rapid charger.

    • +1

Just bought one this afternoon, can I buy a new one tomorrow and return the first one?

    • +1

Do you still get the bonus rapid charger if buying on ebay? Doesn't say on the ebay store you'll get the bonus charger.

      • I would say if it isn't mention then no, because you can't double up on promotions

        • Last purchase from tgg ebay, I got bonus which on their catalogue, not mentioned on their ebay store.

        • @guijiansh: I'd say you were lucky

        • +1

Got reply from masters ebay store, same words, just checked last post this August, same situation most of person got bonus rapid charger directly.

      • +1

YES. You will get it. That is what happened to other people last time including me.

        • +1

I didn't get it, messaged masters ebay store said bonus just for their online store, wondering this time anyone got this bonus charger?

  • +1

Is EGO releasing the whole tool set with brushless motor? I wish I can order any tools with 4.0Ah battery on eBay like on the Master website.
