Global Katana Knife Block $263.20 (RRP $779) + Delivery @ Peter's of Kensington eBay

90
CGIFT20

I have been looking at these knife blocks for quite some time now and the cheapest I have ever seen them has been around $330 plus delivery. This deal brings the price down to $276.20 delivered (to SA). There are also different styles and different quantities of knives if this block doesn't suit you.
The RRP is $779 and I have seen them in stores for this price but you will always be able to find them online between $330-$400.
Global is a Japanese brand used in professional kitchens.

Expect this to be delivered in a MASSIVE box and a wheelie bin's worth of packing beans.

    • Why? I just purchased mine and am having it delivered to work. Could look a bit strange lol.

      • Everything I've ever ordered has been like this.

You joke but this actually happened at my place of work, except it was inwards good that sent an email out and not reception…

  • EDIT: I need to read better.

  • How do these knives compared to a $100 knife sets

    • +1

depend on whether u care for the journey or only the final destination.

If the latter, get a cheaper ikea set, or supermarket ones would do the same thing exactly

      • So confused by that response. Sorry, I am simple tonight :)

If you enjoy the act of creating a meal, the finesse and detail of the blade, the nature of the balance in its usage - then you'll consider a set like this. If your just out to cut some fat of the kids steak after work on a Wednesday, go with a regular knife.

Confucius say “The journey is the reward.”

    • Global is really a budget brand for good knives. However, they'd still be much better than $100 knife sets.
Remember a sharper knife is safer as it is less likely to slip and requires less force.

My advice is always to spend the money on a better chef's knife instead (like a Tojiro DP http://www.ebay.com/itm/Japanese-TOJIRO-DP-Cobalt-VG10-Gyuto…), and then expand out to perhaps a slicer/paring/bread later. You'd get a better collection of knives that way.

      • ^ What he said. Check out this thread for Tojiro https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/218983

      • Personally I went with a single chef's knife and so far haven't really required anything else. It can be slightly slower in some situations (could still keep up, but safety comes into play) though will still more than get the job done. As long as you don't work in a restaurant or often cook for a large amount of people, in my opinion a chef's knife is all you really need.

  • $13 delivery to SA?

I'm getting $30 delivery to WA

    • Yeah, it was $13 delivery to SA.

    • I was getting $25 to WA, its only $279 on eBay through a shop in Perth anyway. Otherwise I was going to order it. Shame about the store pick up :(

      • Is it a good knife set?
        Which store?
Pretty tempted to get a good set for home.

Is it just me or are they people actually buying a knife set of $779??

Most $100 sets do exactly the same and last for about the same number of years in ideal home kitchen conditions. On the plus side, great profit margins for Katana!!

    • You mean Global? Katana is the set name, Global's the brand.

  • Hmm I found a Wiltshire Staysharp 12 piece set for $89 delivered… https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/219079

    • The other ozbargainer's comments make them sound pretty average.
Global are some of the best quality knifes in the world.
If you take care of them, it will be the last knife block you will ever have to buy (so i've been told).
