909 720w petrol generator clearance at Masters Rouse Hill for $55. There was a full pallet of them this evening. Seems like a very good deal on a petrol generator. Slightly more than the price of a good power bank.

hush…. don't apply logic to jv. He replies to every post!
$98
Not a bad saving then….
This seems very logical comment.
Do you know the normal price for this?
yes.
can i put this in my doomsday underground bunker?
Thats what I was going to ask! Great minds. I would say no… Unless you have a seperate vented area. The seperate area will meed to be secure though to stop pillagers.
Doomsday arrives, and tuzii fires up his 100dB 2 stroke generator. People within a few hundred metres all hear that tuzii has power and fuel. They would ask themselves "Do I want electricity and fuel? Hmm, maybe I should visit tuzii and requisition said items" :-)
Golden!
HAHAHA
Not enough power for a doomsday machine. The underground bunker is always a good precaution.
Be careful of the fumes. Unless that is your intention.
Great stocking filler.
Of all the regular comments that are posted about things, this is the comment I hate the most
What, even more than " thanks OP, got one for the wife & one each for the kids"
Surely not that irritating ?This will be good for my
$200$20 netbookI guess someone's parents never taught them please and thank you.
at 720w you'd be better off buying a cheapo 2kw inverter off ebay for the same price and plugging it directly to a car battery. Assuming this is 2stroke it will give your camp site a nice cancer causing smell :)
Run an inverter straight off your car with ignition on. Car batteries themselves have a very short life if discharged to a significant degree. No need to mess around with petrol and 2 stroke oil mixing either, but it does mean leaving a car running with keys in the ignition.
Unless you have a hybrid, then it only runs occasionally :)
Note: these things are very very noisy. Forget about discreetly running one during a suburban blackout at night, or near a camp site. Consider using battery devices and power banks whenever possible.
yep, parents had one a little while back, sold it on and bought some small Honda gen instead - big difference in price though.
Okay, so yeah its cheap and looks dandy but honestly there are several issues with this generator:
-A general rule of thumb for generator use over extended periods is to not exceed 80% of capacity - this limits the useful capacity for this generator to around 576 watts, which may power a low-end pc and monitor, maybe a router as well. It will not power anything such as toaster/kettles/microwaves/heaters/welders/lights-in-series or most other general purpose camping equipment.
-It is non-inverted. This means the power is "dirty" and using it to run any sensitive electrical equipment could cause serious damage after prolonged use due to over/under-voltage. This is the deal killer for me, if I am getting a small generator, it will be inverted or bust.
-Apparently the spark plugs that are already in it are absolute trash
My advice would be to take the standard spark plug and throw it over your shoulder and pick up a proper spark plug, I decided to get the NGK one and it works great.
-2-stroke engine. Apparently it is only 66dB, but I would think that is during idle and not under-load. Two-stroke are convenient in the shorter-term due to less complexity but also tend to require more replacement parts due to variations in fuel/oil mixes or just running dry by accident (4-stroke).
I would keep an eye out for 1kW-2kW inverted/silenced models like the Honda briefcase style generators. There are several ebay brands that are almost as good as the Japanese made brands but at 1/3-1/2 the cost.
/end rant
Common misconception about PC's; would just like to point out my PC with 2500K overclocked, three hard drives and 7970 GPU overclocked pulls Max 390W from the socket.
-My MacBook Air pulls 40W under load.
-Media center PC pulls 90W or 45W idle. Not all that power hungry.
This would charge a backup battery just fine.
The more you pay, the better you get. Some people are happy with what's offered as this is a great price, for others not enough features
Realise, it is 50 Bucks! Not $3000. Not $4000.
No one is going to be performing precision lab experiments with the power output. It is going to power some old lights when the mains goes out, or charge someone's flat car battery because they are too cheap to buy a new one! lol
Furthermore, an inverter just converts DC to AC. Nothing more or less. It is a heavily abused marketing buzz word.
The 2 / 4 stroke point is mute also. If something major breaks, the whole thing is going in the bin - no matter how many strokes. It's 50 bux, and sadly, not worth fixing (another discussion)! lol
Can't be bothered to address the spark plug point!
50 bucks! lol
Come on people this is a $55 generator not $550….
Agreed…great for that electric lawnmower
Great idea, you could put the generator in a backpack and plug your lawnmower straight in. That way you could mow the lawns all day! ALL DAY!
I guess i cant use this on my next trans continental plane trip in economy
…Waiting for the whole chain itself to go on clearance…
same. Wish i had a lazy 300 million dollars laying around. I've got a feeling a nice smile and this is all someone needs to buy the whole god-damn $2.5Billion outfit. lol
How many eneloops can I charge at the same time?
How many chargers do you have?
Reviews seem very good for this. 5 stars.
