I am still thinking, the cheapest before was $49.

    • Aussie dollar was higher.

      • But the RRP from that deal was the same $99.

Cheap, but not much of a multi-function if it doesn't have temperature setting. Why no thermostat? Would add a dollar to the price?

    • +1

It has a thermostat, which will turn the unit on and off to maintain the correct temperature. Too hot and it would over pressurise. How would you work out the temperature required to cook anything?

      • +1

I don't see any temperature control. Many (most?) Pressure coolers, rice coolers and slow coolers just have a power control.

Pressure coolers, rice coolers and slow coolers just have a power control.

Why would you need these coolers? Just leave the lid open or better yet, leave in fridge for a while. ;)

        • @bghunter:
Typing on phone - swypey entry and no reading glasses :-)

        • the pressure release valve opens and that drops the temperature there is a correlation between temperature and pressure

pressure cookers are great if you like to make taco filling, stews, chilli con carne, meat bolognase sauces etc in a hurry. cuts the cooking time to 1/4 compared to normal stove top.

with the cost of beef going up, pressure cookers are great to make the cheaper cuts tender quickly.

        • i think they meant cookers not coolers …… pressure cooker with open lid is no longer a pressure cooker, with lid open its just a pot.

      • idea of pressure cooker is to get water about 100 C ……. as pressure goes up, so does the temperature of water before it becomes steam. so steam valve stops it getting to hot, hence blocked valves on pressure cooker is badddd.
love my stove top, pressure cooker my concern with this unit is the aluminium lining and how much pressure it can actually handle.

    this one does the job.
Just don't like the plastic rim absorb too much smell from the cooking, no matter how i wash.

    • +1

When I worked at a fried chicken store they would had 6 large pressure cookers and those plastic seals were always washed and then put in a tub of water in a cool room. It was the only way to keep them in good condition and I'm guessing the smell that seeps in also seeps out.

      • thanks for the tips, will give it a go.

      • What did they use pressure cooker for at a fried chicken store?

        • +1

pressure cooker with oil is the secret to fried chicken ….. now you just need the 11 herbs and spices
by raising the pressure of the steam that comes out of the chicken as it cooks, it retains the moisture so that how they get their chicken so juicy compared to normal deep frying.

        • @garage sale: thanks for sharing the secret. i m gonna open my chicken shop!!!

  • Do not use a normal pressure cooker to deep fry.

    • Yeah the ones at the place I worked at were something between $12000-$20000 each I think. The average pressure cooker is not made for it.
