Just Bought a New Car. What Can I Do to It?

It's my first new car. What can I do to my car to ensure it stays new and wonderful?

Any cleaning products and car accessories suggestion (OzBargain style)?

Best thing to do would be to go take some advanced driving courses, a) they are fun, b) they will help you become a better driver.

  • Buy and never drive. Just look at it and clean it weekly.
Ah yes, put it inside the garage , raining season coming.
    Money well spent

Parking tip - Park ages away from everyone else, even if you have to walk far = dont have to worry about getting hit.

What about hailstorms? I suggest getting a set of roof racks and attach a double size mattress to it, that should cover most part of your car anywhere anytime. So you never worry about hail again.

What can you do? Nothing. Except avoid parking it next to old cars. Their owners may not care when they swing their doors out and possibly hit yours. Eventually you'll come to terms with the fact that birds will poop on your vehicle and people will hit it with trolleys and kids will throw eggs at it (seriously).

I've been through the new car phase twice and it drove me a little nuts trying to protect the vehicle as best you can. Just accept the little dings and scrapes that inevitably will come your way (other drivers are never honest enough to hand over their insurance details unless they're caught red handed)

I wash mine with the meguiars wash/wax from the SCA deal and keep a bottle of auto gylm fast glass in a map holder and it makes short work of bird crap.

    This is based on experience.

Few things that you would have to make it a habit.
    1) Dont eat in the car
    2) Dont drink or smoke in the car
    3) If possible keep it under covered parking
    4) Get monthly wash from the carwash (around 55 or 60$ )professional wash.

If you do the above, you will have a near new car like mine. This is the 4th year of ownership and it still looks and smells brand new.

Also when I park, I always assume that the car next to me is owned by an smuck hence I keep maximum distance and I always try and find place with one side to the wall to minimize damage.

    Enjoy your car.

Unfortunately it'll get keyed, dinged, scratched and dented. Mostly by other people. Sorry

Scotchgard the upholstery to protect against spills.
