Handily beats out the current eBay deals. Skylake is becoming more prevalent, but this still wins out on price/raw performance.
Can be brought down to ~AU$374 by buying Amazon Gift Card/Credit with a no conversion fee card then selecting Amex when buying the actual item. (Trick found in comments of another thread, I don't take credit for it)
There is a delay in getting the gift card and there's a risk of it running out of stock while you're waiting. (It was out of stock yesterday.)
i7-4790K CPU US $316.35 (~AU $440) on Amazon (US $270 with AmEx ~ AU $386)

I believe that is what he has advertised? i7-4790K?
Misread, he said skylake is becoming more prevalent, not that this is skylake.
No, this is actually Devil's Canyon
???
Where does the post say this is Skylake?
No where.
Classic example of some one misreading and then making a fool of oneself.
Side note:
The Skylake is about $455 on Amazon right now if you pay with amex. The next cheapest i've seen is about $512.
useful if you have a 1150 socket, If buying a new CPU and motherboard I'd go with the I56600k and overclock to 4ghz~
You'd have to wait another 50 generations for that CPU.
Hey guys, this seems great, but how can it be used productively?
I made a thread here: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/128282#comment-3146306
It can be used productively if you use cpu intensive software. It speeds up the process so you don't have to wait as long.
Thanks, but what are some productive tasks that can be done? Something other than gaming? Be great if the PC could generate something during the night…
Well as you said, you already made a thread for it, no reason to continue it here.
Still love that I only paid $355 delivered for this CPU
Good price at the moment given the exchange rate. Still thankful I managed to grab a 6700k a month back during the eBay 20% off deal for $429
What mobo are you using with it?
still rocking a 2600k @ 4.5Ghz
Same here (not overclocked as much) and she's still a beast! Definitely going with another i7 build when this one eventually dies. Somehow feels like new, yet it's over 4 years old now.
I am still rocking the i7-920, stock. Feels like I can't justify an upgrade yet.
Curses! Grabbed a desktop sporting an I5 4430 last week for $138 - and passed it on. This bit of crafted sand would have doubled the performance and set me fairly right for some time @ well under a grand…
It's now "Exclusively for Prime Members". I presume most of us will be able to just get the free trial as we wouldn't have needed it before.
