Thanks mate.
Most small truck rentals places only give you 100km in the price, and charge perhaps 30c per Km over that. That could be $300, then there's fuel, then the rental itself, and that's if you can find someone who wants a one-way rental Sydney to Melbourne. A two day hire could reach $800 or more.
2 Tonne auto Pantec one way rental $89.00 per day
fuel $140
Surcharge .30c per KM
Roadtrip with the family "priceless".The OP might not fit everything he described above in a two tonner.
I have received a quote of $800.00 for backloading. Just wanted to know if anyone has done this before.
Backloading just means the carrier doesn't have a load for the return trip - that is, they had a load from Melbourne to Sydney, but no load (or a small load) for the trip back home to Melbourne. Usually it's a last minute thing, so they'll charge less to get something rather than nothing. There should be no difference in the "quality" of the job.
If you have a suitable car, one way trailer hire is also an option (significantly cheaper as well).
Driving by myself is not an option for me. Thanks anyways.
Good to see this is about what i'll be up for when I move from Syd to Melb early next year. I have a bit more stuff, but hope it isn't much more than this.
I was afraid I'd be up for 5 grand or something.
Post the job on www.truckit.net providers will outbid each other to get your job, if its a popular route you should get lots of quotes, don't forget to post the link here so we can see how low they go.
Just hire a small truck and do the run yourself.
