  • I just got two 4TB of these from Amazon, they fly! Sustained write between them of 130 MB/s and some bursts up to 170 MB/s. Faster than between my m.sata SSDs

Something wrong with your Msata ssds? Their speed should never be weaker than usb 3.0

    • how much did you buy 4TB for?

      • I've never paid more than $140 for the 4tb's I have

      • with the amex 15% offer it cost me about $150 each including shipping. Then I bought the 2TB drives that were on sale at Australia post and sold 5 on Gumtree so I practically got one of the 4TB for free :D

As HDD's get bigger the data transfer speeds keep going up despite spinning the platter at the same speed. Brilliant really that the 'old' tech can still offer decent speeds if you get the biggest HDD available.

Also, if you ever install an OS to a HDD, partition it:

    1st Partition - Virtual RAM
    2nd Partition - OS
    3rd Partition - Data

That way, the data you want accessed the fastest is at the edge of the platter and offering the better data transfer speeds.

(Point taken, although, I think it's the SWAP that needs to be fastest if using memory intensive apps.) However, seriously, when 120GB SSDs are <$100, why bother sharing DATA with SWAP and OS?

      • Assuming you can fit SSD into the device as well as the HDD. My HTPC has only two internal SATA cables, one for Blu-Ray and other for SSD because they are awesome.

  • I wanna off my 2 4TB Clouds and go a single NAS with raid for backup… the Red 5TBs are $300 each or so, not sure if it's a Red inside though? Mind you I'd probably be better buying drives separate for warranty I guess. Not that I have ever had a Hard Drive issue… touches wood
