Big W - XBOX360 $198 Saturday Only (23rd)

220

Hi Guys,

Just heard an ad on B105 (Brisbane radio station), tomorrow only,
"Big W will have $100 off Xbox 360, now only $198"
And via email:

HDMI version

Appears to be Australia wide, I know the Carindale store in Brisbane is going to have 10-14 units for tomorrows sale, some stores will have a lot less.

Obviously this will be their arcade model, gimme a few mins to find any links about it.
I guess it will just be what ever they currently have for $298.

Saturday 23rd Jan 2010 only.

Justin.

MOD: link updated

  • Are there any limitations with the Arcade model, or does it just come bundled with less stuff ?

    • No harddrive is the biggie, and if it is an early one, no HDMI..
      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xbox_360
The Wiki link gives all the features of arcade vs elite
I am really keen for the HDMI version if they are going to offer that one..

Dick Smith had a similar deal before christmas ($199), but I could only find non-HDMI versions.

      • They stopped selling the non-hdmi versions of arcades well over a year ago, I'd be very surprised if you were able to find a non-hdmi version still. Both Falcon (The previous model) and the Jasper ("New one" out in Dec 2008) had hdmi standard.

        • Thanks, I am really hoping to grab a jasper tomorrow.

just google Arcade vs Elite. but pretty much the only difference is the hard drive included. Without a harddrive you cant play online.

    • not true!
      you can play online.
      has inbuilt memory 512mb
so not much space for save games and xboxlive arcade games

      • if the pc version is anything to go by, the cod patches are a few hundred mb each. There were a few in cod4

        • MOD: Removed innapropiate language.

Updates are like 10-20meg. Sure map packs can be big downloads, but certainly not essential for playing online.

          • @PainToad: Burnout Paradise requires the patches before you can play online, and the patches are something like 2Gb apiece! (i.e. the bike & all-weather update). In other words, you cannot play this particular game online without having a hard drive.

            • @MrGareth: Will these arcade models accept a HDD from a Pro/Elite model?

My mate recently upgraded and would give me his 20GB very cheap
Also lots of cheap 20Gbs coming through ebay ect (genuine, fake, whatever, users know the risks) but my quesion is, does the arcade support the upgrade to HDD?

              • +1

@RideCurbs: Yes! It just plugs in on the side. :) You can fit 2 - 3 games on a 20Gb drive.

    • think you can get an add on HDD for the xbox? but in the past its been expensive.. there are all type of hacks out there.

      • Yes and no…

You can hook up an external USB2 hard drive, but it has to be formatted the correct way, and it's only for media storage. You can't install your games to it.

You need the "proper" hard drive for installing your games to. The Xbox 360's DVD drive is LOOOOOUUUUUUD!, so if you want to play your games in peace, you really need to copy them to the hard drive.

        • Xbox 360 drives have not been loud since the days of Hitachi and Samsung drives. Nowadays they have Liteon drives which are whisper quiet. I have a lot of experience with these things, these onews will be fine.

          • @[Deactivated]: Are you sure? I have a Falcon model, two Jaspers (and a PS3 and a wii!)…. all of the 360's I've got have VERY loud drives when playing games, which is why I have a HD on the one I play games on (the other two I use as media centre extenders). I'm guessing none of my 360's have those liteon drives then. :(

    • also the Arcade only incledes SD video& stereo audio cable.

If you want HD (hdmi or component) video and 5.1 (optical) audio out then your going to have to also invest in an extra video cable.

  • Same deal with a game 3 weeks ago but good deal
    considering deals currently.

  • I got burnt last time they had this "bargain" on

The model I got was a refurbished 360 model from 2006, reboxed as an Arcade, even the warranty sticker had been stuck back on badly and you could see the residue from the previous sticker. Id look long and hard at the batch number before paying the money.

    • I intend to look for a Jasper on the label, and if mine comes out anything like yours I will be back to the BigW that same day for a refund for selling refurbed unit when I expected new (unless they specify that they are refurbs).

    • I'd say it's a one-off. I work at Big W in the Home Ent section, and we got dozens of the Arcades in for the Boxing Day sales. Nothing on the packaging indicated that it would be a refurb model - they were all sealed up and straight from the supplier.

I've worked there for years and we've never sold 'refurb' models either - the closest you'll get is ex-repair units (which are usually labelled as such, and are never bought in bulk - they're from when a customer returns a DOA item and we get them repaired).

      • That's the thing - MS package them like any normal Arcade - as they still are technically new Arcade units. You wouldn't know any different without examining them, or pulling it out of the box.

  • Just spoke to someone at Big W Forrest Hill VIC, and they said it's on sale throughout VIC tomorrow as well. They only had one arcade unit there (maybe more out back). It had HDMI so it's at least semi recent stock.

    Big W Newsletter - also $1 thongs, and $698 42inch Sanyo (not full-)HD Plasma.

    • Thanks for the link, deal updated :)

  • the shitty thing about xbox360 is all the extra shit u gotta buy… I was tempted to get this but then the hard-drive costs alot… not to mention you cant just grab a 500gb hd and stick it in like with a ps3 :(

  • They should just make RRP $200 already… these 360's go down to the $200 mark every now and then ever since 2008

  • My local Big-W was selling the latest Jaspers (I had a look at one - the 512Mb version of the Jasper, built in Oct 2009).

  • Can confirm that.. Just bought one in chermside.. Build date 28/10/09..

  • Big W MacArthur in Brisbane had 'plenty' this morning. I went to JB right opposite Big W to look for some accessories that big W didn't have (media center remote, xbox vga cable) and got them to pricematch two consoles at $198 each. The cashier was surprised at the price difference. haha..
