Checked out Coles insurance last week. which came to $671, way better than my current provider.

Aust Post have a 35% off online home and content insurance. I did a quote and the price came to $534.

Obviously there will be slight differences in policies and the product disclosure statement should be read.

  • If their service is the same standard as their delievery service, steer clear!

    • Yup , their delivery service is very bad , they won't deliver any parcels to my unit even though someone is available for collection as they are too lazy to walk 15 meters to ring the bell .

Then I have to go to their collection depot during work hours (when I work far away and can't afford a break during business hours )

      • Not just the delivery service, but the actual service too! I claimed for a refund for express delivery and it took 4 phone calls, 4 emails and 6 weeks to get the refund. Imagine if you had to claim for house fire, YIKES!

I can cite an even worse experience :

They lost my registered post containing my passport when I had applied for a Visa and since I was on a tight timeframe and ASUPOST did not even bother to search even after 50 calls , I had to go thru countless bureaucracies for a new passport .

And the irony is they delivered the post a week after I got my new passport and the embassy ad to confiscate the old passport and again start a round of questions

Moral of the story : Never trust AUSPOST with critical documents

      • Can't get off their motorbikes these days it seems.

        • or their delivery truck seats :)

          @kamban:

Our truck guy does normally ring the bell, motorbike guy never does.

So I guess we are lucky :)

        Get a delivery locker

        • I have never heard about this before mate , good suggestion , Ta

  • Its only 20%.

  • Only need contents as I live in a body corporate. Get a 20% discount for online. Price worked out to be more than my current policy (which has quite broad wording as well).

  • $500 more than my current insurer. Obviously don't want my business.

  • ~$300 cheaper than the renewal just received from my current insurer. (1600 v 1300)
will be shopping around some more though.

  • No way to cover flood?

  • Does not cover flood. Stay away.

    • I live in an elevated house 30 meters above sea level on the side of hill which drains off to the sea. should I avoid this policy?

      • While there are others costing similar covering flood I would, regardless how unlikely my house could get flooded.

Note: I'm with Allianz through NAB and quotes are almost identical.

  • Try Coles and use code HALFOFF

Code expired end of September. But still worked for me 2 days ago

    • "Sorry, that promotion code is not valid. Please try again."

  • Can also try ringing your local WFI office. They underwrite Coles.
They have flood option, lower excesses and excellent personal valuables policy(excess $75).
Personally I haven't found anyone who can give me better quotes. However I don't think they're too competitive for younger customers i.e. teens/early twenties.

  • Twice as expensive as my current insurer.

  • Make sure you read the policy properly.
Our cars just had their renewals and my wife did some research and found that Coles was $200+ cheaper than NRMA. Then she read the conditions and if you leave your car unlocked you are not covered.
She rang them to confirm this was the case and they said yes as that is negligent.
Now we have probably never left our cars unlocked but we have to infants so if it does happen and the Car gets stolen I'd like to think I wouldn't be 20k out of pocket.

    • This is how NRMA getting away charging that much premium.

  • 35% off at BudgetDirect as well, same insurer (Auto & General), same website layout, just different branding.
Assuming I entered data correctly, BD was 2% cheaper than AP
