As of the time of this post the X-Files Blu-Ray Collector's Blu-Ray set is currently up for preorder at Zavvi for £98.99($206.88) plus delivery of £0.99 takes it to about $209AUS. Using the code ZVC5 gets you 5% off which makes it £95.03 which is around $198.
Considering the current preorder for the Australian release at Sanity is a whopping $369.95 I'd say this is a pretty awesome price and will beat whatever any Australian retailer will list it as.
The Australian release does include the two movies, however they can currently be picked up in a Blu-ray double pack at JB Hifi for $10 so it's not really a factor.

UPDATE: User iconic83 pointed out below that if you create a new account you can use the code 'WELCOME' to get 10% off instead.

Some people want to own it on Blu-Ray. Can't do that with a presto subscription.
I'm assuming your username choice was self-parody?

Some people want to save $200. Cant do that with a costly blu ray set.

plus, its good to have options - hope you didnt neg me for that!

        • +6

I could also illegally pirate it if I wanted to save $200. But that's just as irrelevant to the conversation.
This deal isn't about online streaming. It's about how much you could save IF you wanted to own it on Blu-Ray.
And personally that appeals to me. Would I rather watch it in full 1080p quality with a lossless surround sound track? Or watch it in 480p on my crappy ADSL connection?

        • -3

@fatpizza: cheapest legal way to watch it is totally relevant.

And zero dollars is pretty darn cheap

As i said, its good to have options

          @pointless comment:

But this thread is about the cheapest way to own it on Blu-ray. Not the cheapest way to watch it legally.
Do you go into every deal posted about physical media and make these sorts of comments?

        • @fatpizza: I don't find his comment completely irrelevant. I wouldn't mind watching some of the older episodes, and if one of the streaming services has it instead of me having to go out and buy it then that's possibly a better option for me given I'm not a die hard fan.

At $200 I wouldn't bother watching the show, but I might consider the subscription method. That doesn't devalue the box sets worth, it just provides alternatives.

          @Smigit:
I understand some people might want to watch it streamed. I've got no issue with that. But as I've repeated and should be inherently obvious this is about finding the cheapest way to own it on blu-ray.

This isn't about watching the show, it's about owning the product stated in the title and making others aware of the most cost effective way to do so.

        • @fatpizza: And I think thats 100% valid. I own quite a few movies myself and still buy physical copies. No dramas there and no issue with this being listed as a deal what so ever.

        • @Smigit:
          All good. :)

There are A LOT of people out there who really love this show. People have been waiting YEARS for this release on Blu Ray.

Anyhow, I'll probably buy this at JB 20% off sale as I would prefer the Aussie version because I'm stupid like that. Apparently they are leaving a spot for the new season in the box. Can't wait.

  • Miss the good old days when each season was around $130 for dvd or more.

    • I remember seeing one of the season's for $189. This was when DVD was a newly released format

Trying to get rid of the old sets before the new season airs and a new "complete" set comes out

Clear something that isn't out yet? Makes sense…

Thanks ordered, didn't even know this was confirmed yet, let alone so soon! been a while since I ordered with Zavvi too.

    • Do you know if they charge straight away for preorders? Or on shipment?

      (never mind: ordered anyway!)

  • is this a proper remaster? i heard speculation this probably wasn't going to come to Blu Ray.. anyone know?

    • +5

It's a proper remaster, strangely the Germans were the first to get the remastered episodes earlier this year. Netflix are showing the HD remastered series now (at least the first two seasons which I have been watching)

The show looks fantastic in 16:9 and is remastered from the original film masters, the show was shot with a view to 16:9 being a standard in the future so is framed very well.

Also the show itself holds up well still.

From what I read RRP in USA is going to be US$199 so this is a great price in our region format.

Yep, remastered from the 35mm negative, and it's gorgeous!

Normally I'm not a fan of changing the aspect ratio (seasons 1-4 have been opened up from 4x3), but the new framing seems acceptable in most (not all) cases.

Op, I know a bit late for those that have already preordered, but just got an email from ZAVVI , early Xmas offer this weekened. 10% off when using the code OCT10

Brings the total down to 90.08 ~ $188aud.

    • Thanks, but I just tested that out and it doesn't seem to work for me.

      • Wow, that was quick, looks like maybe its not valid for pre orders. They must have realised people were using it and blocked it for pre orders

  • +2

Create a new account and use code welcome for 10% off

    • I'll add that to the OP as I just tested and it worked great. Thanks. :)
