  • what frequency does this operate under ?

  • This one has been popular on ozbargain before $34.95 after coupon

    • I was looking for that one originally but couldn't find it click and collect in Victoria :(
But I had a quick look for NSW and QLD and there are some available for any people who are from there. I would've loved the extra handset.

I'm not sure exactly the differences with the two models, the Panasonic site doesn't have a Compare option, but having a quick look at the specs it looks like the KX-TG6822 has some extra features such as power outage operation and advanced TAM which lets you hear answering machine messages when you're not home via your mobile. That might be handy for the home office peeps.

  • Hi Op

    Thanks for posting.

'Bluetooth Function: -' indicates no Bluetooth? Also no headset jack from what I can tell on the web. Otherwise this would have been perfect to replace my 10+ year old Panasonic set. My wife uses the headset on that one frequently.

  • Great handset I like the features it has, I think I'm working on three years of ownership, not one issue in that time. Power outage function is great. Message recording a breeze.

    • does it play nice with 2.4ghz wifi networks ?

      • yep my modem is directly above it and there has never been an issue on any wifi band (dual band).

edit: I have the KX-TG6821 single handset.

  • will this be better than Uniden DECT 1635+2 ( http://www.uniden.com.au/australia/p_dect1635_2_index.asp ) or PANASONIC DECT KX-TGC223ALS mentioned in https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/214399 ?

I currently have the DECT 1635+2 and it is not very good. The child handsets sometimes do not connect to the base and needs to be restarted. Sometimes people can't hear me or I can't hear them. The performance is just not good overall.

    • Wouldn't be able to tell you if it's better than the Uniden sorry, but you can compare the two Panasonic models here.

      KX-TG6822ALB specs and product page
      KX-TGC223ALS specs and product page

    • If you look below at the Choice ratings I posted, the Uniden 1635 comes in at 8th spot with 76% overall score.
It scored 71% for sound quality receiving and 77% for sound quality sending, whereas this Panasonic model got 82% and 77%.

    • Are there other reviews like that?

    • +7

A bit rich neg'ing the deal off the back of a review. My in-laws have this exact model and works a treat.

      • +3

Agree - point out the review as it is an opinion and can be helpful info, but neg'ing the deal based on only two reviews is as you say a bit rich

      • Is that why you don't care if the sound is barely audible. Since you don't want to hear your mother in law?

    • +1

Nowaday user's review's has lots of misleading information, like says this so called tech savvy guy, if the phone works fine in HN, then should be test in one more location rather than his home.

I had two of this model for 2 yrs and one year, the best phone under $100 I ever see, I mean I tried countless different brand, model of cordless phone in countless place, this is one of the best, especially for this low price.

    • Be that I'm tech savvy

Those that are actually competent with technology never call themselves 'tech savvy'.. That's used by older folks who think they're 'in' and they know it all after learning a few tips and tricks.

Not sure, feel free to go for a search. There is always good and bad reviews. Product Reviews only gave it negative feedback

I have had this model for over a year. It's the best cordless phone I have ever had, The sound is great, the features are also good.

It's DECT6.0 so it doesnt interfere with 2.4ghz wireless setup, I bought mine from Panatech from their sale bin. ($12 without manual for 1 handset)

I'd give it 5 stars for performance, Maybe our tech friend should have tried another unit. I live on acreage and I find it has good long range reception.

BTW it gets 4.8 out of 5 here

From www.choice.com.au, cordless phones ordered by their scoring.

    Uniden XDECT 8115+1 - 83% score
    Uniden XDECT 8155+1 - 82% score
    Panasonic KX-TG6822 - 80% score
    Good points
    • Accepts regular AAA (rechargeable) batteries
    • Works during a blackout
    • Very good speakerphone sound quality
    • Support for a repeater box to deliver an extended reception range
    • Very good sound quality for receiving a call and good for sending a call
    Bad points
    • May not be suitable for office use - answering machine would not answer when connected to PABX

Great information. Thanks unco (no pun intended).

I have exactly the same phone as well for about a year and its the best cordless phone I've ever had. No white noise, great distance and doesn't interfere with the home wireless network. The display is bright and numbers are large and easy to read. I would recommend it.

  • Do these have a good speaker function? I often use the phone on speaker mode when talking to family so the kids can hear and talk as well.

Also, can someone confirm it runs on AAA rechargeables?

    Thanks

    • Yes, I put in the eneloop battery because the original one doesn't last. Speaker is very good.

  • A very good cordless. Ignore the dipshit reviewer on the DSE site who is whining about a white noise'. It sounds like they have a problem with their line which they are blaming the phone for.

  • Out of stock

  • Just got it in time. Replaces 8yr old pana model. Thanks Op

  • Slightly off topic. A friend of mine had his VoIP dropping out at exactly 30 minutes on every call. We worked out that it was his Telstra cordless phone (an 18520 or something like that). We plugged in a different handset and the problem went away. We looked at Dick Smith yesterday and noticed Uniden was half price. We would have gone Panasonic (a brand I consider to typically have better sound and build quality), but Panasonic didn't have big buttons on the base station for my friend's poor eyesight. So, we went with Uniden.

I'm relaying this story because a cordless phone can be the cause of VoIP hanging up calls after a certain time. I was suspicious because the timeout was almost exactly 30 minutes every time.

  • I couldn't go a blue LED display (telstra), or a yellow (uniden) ever again, but this pana with white is so much more nicer to look at, I'd accept white text on black combo but maybe next time. A big digital time and short date is on display which is nice. Orange NR button flashes with a recorded message is easily picked up on and you can play back on the handset not just the base.

I'm diggin the ability to silence the base station and only have the handset ring, which is set to a volume that suits me, I love that cause it makes finding the handset easy when it's gone walkabout.

I was temped to buy a different handset that you can import your mobile phone contacts through BT or sim support and use you phone to take/make landline calls but it didn't have a blackout feature which was the sole reason the previous handset was replaced. Ironically the power has only gone out once so far where previously it was every wet season (gotta love FNQ).

    • it makes finding the handset easy when it's gone walkabout.

On the base unit there are three buttons under the red display LED

Use the left most button with the volume symbol on it and it rings the handset if you want to find it.

      • what I meant was in the situation that the missus or kids had last used it and it's not been put back. You'd not give it a second thought till it rings again, it just made it easier to find without the base station on it's default volume.

I picked mine up last night and gave it a quick test so I thought I'd give my impressions in case anyone looks up comments for future deals of this phone.

Set it up next to my ADSL modem and didn't notice any interference or noise, speakerphone was loud and clear too.
I went through the settings quickly since I read Cobrin's post above about silencing the base station so that only the handset rings, that's a handy thing.

I put it in to ECO mode.. because the OzBargain in me tells me the lower power consumption is what I need haha. Tested it upstairs and downstairs and didn't notice any discernible difference.

I haven't set up the answering machine to forward voice messages to my mobile yet.

All in all I'm happy with it from the limited testing last night.

  • Saw it, bought it, paid for it.
Now I receive a phone call to say it is not in stock, so my payment will be refunded
    Thanks a lot Dick Smith…..NOT!!!
