Smooth but powerful, Bundaberg's Black Barrel Rum has been aged in American White Oak for 10 years before being finished in heavily charred barrels. I received the same email. Confusing that the email creative says "…valued at $109…" but on the site it is marked down from $139. Google cache says it was $139 yesterday

Not a bad deal either way

    • Noticed that too. Definitely $139 previously.

    • +7

$109 is the standard price. $139 is the presale 'dick smith' price

  • Anyone tried this stuff? Can't find any info online about it other than the two reviews at Dan's.

    • Yup, it's good…damn good…and I don't generally like regular Bundy!!! A mate had a bottle last Xmas, they ain't kidding about the "smooth" part, it's a completely different animal to the cheap stuff; you can just drink it neat! :)

  • I bought one but I would say its last years version…I don't think the new one is out just yet ( pre orders so far )….. $109 is probably the new price for it when the other comes out at $139

I think most people would be more interested in hearing your account of how it tastes rather than how much you'd paid for it.

      • +1

He never mentioned how much he paid for it.

        • +1

You're right. I was just nudging him or her to tell us how it tastes.

          @EarlyBird:

yeh although a lot of people actually drink their alchohol a lot of Bundaberg buyers are collectors ( especially in the more expensive bottles ). Unfortunately for everyone here I am one of those.

        • +2

@ugoagogo: What do you do with them? They don't improve with age or increase in value. If you're just putting the bottles on display, you can always drink up the content and fill them with filtered tea.

        • @EarlyBird:

Exactly EarlyBird, I know this from experience of acquiring end of line boutique whiskey almost 20 years ago and drinking it a couple of years later was much much better than the foul taste I got later at 10 years! Biggest mistake I ever made! Now I have a few bottles that I still have, know it tastes crap but can't part with them because of sentimental value. But who would be sentimental with Bundaberg?

        • @serpserpserp: You could try soaking dried fruits in them and use it for baking. Works well with low quality spirits.

        • @EarlyBird:

actually you would be surprised , they do increase in value… i must admit the last few years bottles havnt that much but before that it was quite good…Bundy drinkers are quite funny people who are quite devoted to their brand…

        • @ugoagogo: That's interesting but I presume you meant collectors rather than drinkers? Surely even Bundy drinkers are discerning with taste and aged bottles of rum deteriorate like other spirits unless they are kept in a controlled environment.

  • +1

yes I bought one but just giving a possible explanation for the price confusion as discussed above.

    • +1

      How does it taste?

    • +3

So I gather it's unopened and you've never tasted it? Seems quite a gamble with a $109 bottle.

  • +3

Anyone have this problem where they buy more than they can or want to drink? And the other problem where friends are always like "give me some of your alcohol, you don't drink it anyway".

    • +1

I know right. I need to build a wine cellar under the house just to keep up!

  • +2

I reckon there are better alternatives at this price.

    • There probably are, but for someone who has never had bundie rum before is it worth buying their best offering? Is there something distinctively good about it compared to other rums? I've had stuff from Appleton Estate and Pusser's before, they were pretty good.

    • Like single malt whiskey… I can think of many

  • +1

Can someone please just comment on the taste?

I am aware everyone's taste is different but just an indication from a few would provide a general consensus?

    • +3

Judging from the comments I'm starting to wonder if a single bottle has ever been drunk by a human being… perhaps they were all just bought 'on special' and remain gathering dust on the shelf :)

      • Well it is a nice looking bottle, but im thinking even at $60 I could use $79 on a lot of other things…

  • Bought a bottle from this deal last year.
Haven't opened it yet though it looks nice :)

    • +2

Lol man, drink it. The ethanol can spoil the flavour over time (not expire, just affect the delicate flavours).

Bought for the sake of buying..dont even drink rum..
    Dont forget Cashrewards 5%

I tried this at a food and wine festival, was really nice and it reminded me of a good whiskey due to the smoky flavour.

Be warned, I had several rum tastings over the day which may have influenced my tasting.

But yeah, several others who were with me enjoyed it as well, very tempted to pickup a bottle for the price.

    • Thanks I needed to read this!

  • It was probably overpriced to begin with. My 2c - Just get one of the high end bourbons that are on special atm (elijah craig/Bernheim or even the higher up wild turkeys are great) Rare breed is my go to/faveourite drink but be warned, its powerful stuff.

    no BundyArse code?

Anyone thinking of buying this should do themselves a favour and get this instead. No coke required…

    • Agree 100%.

This is the best smelling/tasting rum I have ever had.

For just $20 more - definitely worth it

    • Going to get me one of those next time I'm at Dan's.
Glad they have more run offerings available!

Nice drop but plenty of competition for less money. Example 1. https://www.danmurphys.com.au/product/DM_765453/beenleigh-5-…
