    Thanks for the blog diaryofanuberdriver.com

    Very entertaining…

  • Thanks OP.

  • Guys, Where do I enter the verification code to confirm my phone number?

    • in the app when requested :)

  • +1

Literally shaking my head at the comments on that Choice article. It's like the taxi drivers come out by the dozen to complain wherever uber is mentioned in any positive light at all. Compete or kaput, I say!

    • I'm all for uber, but the compete or kaput argument is flawed. Taxi drivers have had to fork out hundreds of thousands of dollars to obtain a license so as to meet government regulations - now, anyone with a car can do the very same thing. They have a very legitimate claim me thinks.

      • +2

Yes, however in a regulated environment, such as what the ACT is doing, taxi license fees are significantly reduced, Uber cannot pick up people in taxi zones (like airports), loading zones, and some other restrictions. They're also removing a lot of the smaller requirements for taxi drivers, like required uniforms, restrictive training requirements, etc, and are adding requirements for uber drivers to do training courses (I believe the same as taxi driver safety training).

So in the end, taxis can still do a bit more (like pick up fares in taxi ranks, and customers who don't use uber for whatever reason) in a regulated environment. I agree that it's harder on taxis but their way of protesting is not working. It's 2015, the current taxi model has been around for decades and is simply not good enough for what consumers expect.

Should we keep subsidising an obviously obsolete industry? Or blindly ban anything other than a standard taxi just because the government has created artificially high plate costs for taxis? Not in my opinion. It's like subsidising horse breeders because the automobile was invented.

Source for most of that info.

  • Can you get picked up from Sydney Domestic airport by setting the pickup point outside the airport then telling the driver to come to the Qantas or Virgin/Jetstar terminal?

    • +2

You can't set the pin at the airport for a reason. Uber drivers are not supposed to pick up there (but uber never carries actual training and educate the drivers). what you suggested might work with a new driver but if caught, the driver will be issued a big fine by the airport staff.

  • Brisbane is having issues with the rider app this morning, but it seems fixed now :)

  • Shame ACT is the only state that uber customers are legally allowed to ride in an uber vehicle.

  • Can you use your referral link and $40 code?

  • Can i use this code if i have never used uber but i have been signed up to the app for a long time?

    • I inadvertently signed up as a driver. So, signing up for this I used my other gmail account.

It wants my cc details is it safe?

      • +1

cc details not safe with a company that does over a million rides a day? and you work for them?

      • You can trust uber with your credit card details.
Although i have mine setup with paypal

        • OK good thinking.

    • To answer my own question above.
I have had uber for over a year but have never used it.
I just typed in the promocode and now have $40 credit.
      Thanks OP!!!

      • welcome :)

btw if you login via the web, what are the promo terms eg. expiry date and any geographical restriction?

        • How do i log in through the website via mobile device?

Edit: so i just found a way into my account via mobile device.
          It only says
          Active:
          $40 off! Love from Shelby!

Maybe it will show different via actual desktop.

        • @Hirolol: thanks :)

  • I dont work for them, where does it say that?

  • Here we go again, prob only works in Perth.

  • I got code not valid. Number of registrations exhausted

    • still works - at least via app :)

  • +1

Thanks, Op. Used this to get home for free from the MCG. GO HAWKS!

  • I can confirm that this works for Melbourne only, was told by an Uber rep. Tried using it in Sydney, didn't end up applying at the end.

    • as there there's no geographical restriction given for the promo code

      $40 off! Love from Shelby!

did you ask for a refund?

      • Like the other poster in there I got $10 off, but I'm raising a fuss.

        • Update on this, they honoured the original voucher.

        • @Imbrog:

          glad to hear :)

        • @Imbrog: I'm busy fighting with them to get them to honour it for a Sydney trip. How did you manage it? Thanks for any help

EDIT: For those in the same position as me: The original contact will say that their computer system can't issue refunds. After 2 days of emails I requested the matter be passed up the line to a manager who had the authorisation to issue refunds and I had the promo code honoured within the hour.

        • +1

@siege: Uber support representative kept lying to me about the conditions of their codes (not just this one, I said which code I would've used if I'd known that this code didn't work in Sydney), so after refuting their claims a different representative messaged me a day later and gave me the refund.

  • Entered the code under "Promotions" tab in Sydney, showed "Promotion has a redemption limit and too many users have entered the code"

    • Same but in Melbourne, looks like the deal is done.

  • Too many users, limit reached. Tried both via app and website. :(

  • Just checked my account, been charged $32 still. No number to call and get money back. Not happy with UBER

    • sorry to hear but you can email them :)

  • UBER respone via email:
"Thanks for following this up. There are several issues here. Firstly, you have relied on a promotional code advertised by an unaffiliated third-party; in this case OzBargain.

As a result, and because it did not come from an authorised and verified Uber source, I cannot honour the $40 promo code.

Secondly, it appears that there is a region restriction on the code - as it is set to Melbourne.

I am deeply sorry I cannot assist you on this, but I would advise you to only trust verified Uber sources."
