The gas heater in my lounge is turning off automatically. Contacted a gas plumber/technician who quoted $380 for changing the thermocouple which he thinks is causing the automatic shut downs (labour+material).
Does anyone know whether I am getting ripped off?
p.s. I got the same licensed gas plumber to service and do carbon monoxide test on my gas heater on 30 July 2015 and at the time he gave it a clean bill of health. I am based in the south/eastern suburbs.
Thanks in advance for any advice/suggestion.
My understanding is that the thermocouple is basically used to turn the gas off if the flame goes out. It's not high tech, and is usually easily replaced (although my only experience is with ducted heating).
As to the cost, you'll need to let us know what heater you have!
