I would like to hire a car for the weekend at gold coast for next weekend from 1 October to 4 October. What is the best bet for a bargain hire car?
Should I get the excess reduction insurance for an extra ~$100?Or use Domestic travel insurance?

All hire car is so expensive. Think I was once most frequent flyer in GC.

Price overview for all car hire between 1Oct to 4Oct is as following.
I have the feeling that peak period like this is unlike to find further discount, as most coupon has blackout.
Personally have not tried the smaller car hire company so could not comment. just remember their pickups may be outside airport, if you don't mind.
Little hint from my previous experience if you book for one more day ie 1Oct to 5Oct will be cheaper, but someone will have to return the car for you on the 5Oct, otherwise will be charged at a higher rate.
Pre purchase your car insurance that lowers the claim excess from $3000 to $0 instead of the hire car company. Bought in the past through airline - Allianz. I have not checked with FastCover.
