Advice: Porting to-and-from?

I'm fairly new to this porting business, having mostly been on plans except recently moving to Aldi pre-paid (due to periodically needing Telstra coverage)

I understand how to go to new pre-paid providers, I have Amaysim and Vodafone spares right now. What I'm a little confused about is how to return? Do I keep my Aldi SIM and somehow initiate a port-back or do I simply buy another $5 starter SIM when I want to return?

I'm sure it's all very simple, so if someone could clarify I'd be most appreciative :)

Once you port from one provider to another the original SIM becomes invalid. You have to buy a new starter pack if you want to port back.

    • Thank you sir, that's all I needed to know!

Fast response time too, I'm impressed ;)

EDIT: I have 6 x Vodafones, 1 x Amaysim and tomorrow I'll get 1 or 2 Optus $5 sims. Between these and future Amaysim deals I should easily be covered for the next 12 months or so. Periodically I'll have a need to return to Aldi thus my question. Glad it's all nice and easy… I miss the ease of plans but I gotta say, all this porting hassle will certainly save $$

  • Maybe you could consider a phone that allows two sim cards?

    • I have thought about that… When I get around to replacing my Note 3 I'll probably do that.

  • make sure youre current sim is under your name before you port. Some of my friends have had issues because they've had the same number since HS, set up by their parents

    • Ahh good to know. Although I moved out of home 20 years ago so no problems there :)

I'd hate to lose my number, have had this one for I think 15 years now.

    • Can you port a number that is on a post-paid plan? Once ported, does the account from the post paid plan closes?
