I have the Fisher and Paykel machine and it is awesome, by far the best machine I've ever had.

Parents have an 18 month old Samsung and it is on its last legs already.

Everything about the F&P just screams quality, the buttons are great and the turn dial is freaking amazing (seriously). Most machines are really clunky and use cheap dials.

    • do u have the same F&P model listed above ?

      • I have the exact same Fisher & Paykel as listed above, and agree with everything he said. The biggest seller was that the F&P had hot water inlet too, so it saves on power since my place has solar hot water

        • We have a electric heater at our place, which do you think is more energy efficient
          1) Connecting both Cold and Hot inlets or
          2) Just connect the cold inlet and let the machine heat it up(Considering we have a electric hot water system)

        • @spk: Hmm… not sure about that… you might have to check your hot water heater model and power consumption and do a bit of maths to work out which is more efficient. Can't really be of much help there sorry - I'm still new to all this stuff too

        • @nytrojen: From the product review website, it has been reported that this machine vibrates too much during spin and it doesn't suit wooden floors.

Mine is a wooden floor in a rented place, am afraid if that would be of any problem ?
Appreciate if you could confirm on this please.

        • @spk: Mine does vibrate a bit, but it really depends on what the load is. The very first load it vibrated a LOT. To the point where I felt I had to throw myself on top of it, but subsequent loads I don't even notice it from the next room.

It's a bit hit and miss really. Not a problem for me since I have a tiled rental place. Can't really be too much help because "vibrating a lot" is a pretty subjective measurement and I don't have too much experience with other washing machines to compare mine to.

      • Yes, identical.

    • How can a 18 month old Samsung be on its last legs already?

If it's not working as new, call Samsung as it's still under warranty.

      • Easy, its basically garbage. It's been services a crap load of times and its buggered. Thats how.

        • If it's been serviced a crap load of times and still doesn't work, ask for a refund.

Can't go wrong with LG. Whole family has LG washing machines, still kicking after 11 years. I bought a Samsung when I moved last year, because it was the only one that would fit at the time. No problems with the Samsung after 12 months. I would of still preferred the LG.

We have a Fisher & Paykel as well (top loader) 15+ years old, average 5 full loads a week…still going strong. It washes everything: dog's bedding, pillows, camping backpacks, muddy runners, stuffed toys …the machine is one tough beast!

I wouldn't even think about getting a Samsung after its recent recall.

  • I have the Choice print out and LGs are the top 3. Next is Miele.

That F&P is 7th, quite high up. The bigger Samsungs are up the top, but that one you mention is down a ways.

    Choice mag of July 2015

  • I was in a similar position to you OP.

Ended up going with an LG. As per anna10's post these have down really well in Choice mag recently. I was originally going to go with a Samsung but I read in a few places that the wash cycles were really long (like, more than 3 hours for some of them!)

    • are those with 3.5 Energy rating ?

      • Yes, 3.5 energy rating. That was one thing that could have been better with the LGs. I mainly do cold water washes though, so not too concerned.

I have a Bosch front loader (not the same model) and recommend AGAINST it.
It's very cheap plastic…the bottom panel constantly unclips and the plastic top cracked in all corners. It was still under warranty and Bosch tried feeding me some bullcrap about "it wasn't built that way" so it's not covered by warranty.

After wasting a LOT of my time, finally got it replaced for free (thank you fair trading).

    tl;dr - NO BOSCH

    • Which model was it? Do you think even the high-end Bosch have the same issue?

      • Model is was28440au

I'm not sure if the high end ones still use plastic but when I was googling my problem I found that many people had cracking problems with the plastic parts.

What really got to me was the ridiculous responses I got for a product under 2 years old. All they had to do was a replace a $10 part…it took the tech longer to unbox the part than it did to install it.

The outsourced tech was wonderful. The service from Bosch was terrible.

  • Have you seen this new post?:

Its for a frontloader on special.

    • haha that was posted by me :)

      • Lol sorry! And thanks for posting! :)

        • Couldn't decide which one to go with !
          F&P or Samsung

        • @spk: just wondering, how come you aren't interested in washer dryer combo? I bought one last year and saved some space in the laundry.

I got the LG WD1402CRD6 7.5 kg washer/4 kg dryer for $980. Does it sound like something you'd want?

        • @hashtagbargain: I used one at my previous place(furnished apartment - so I don't own it) and was not satisfied with it.
I don't think it dries them completely and we had to place them on the lines anyway.

        • @spk: Ah ok. I'm not sure if it was different model or something, but ours gets clothes real dry (like dryer dry).

Anyways, gluck with your washing machine hunt! May the best WM be yours!
