If you're fine with supporting filthy rich shareholders that pay close to no tax in our country, then keep buying Apple products.
Just don't complain that we have no technology hub or manufacturing industry. Keep funneling your money to America's 1%

      • +7

Apple isn't the only ones minimising their tax by like that. Although legal, I doubt the general public care, like how they love uber.

        • It's pretty sad seeing all those protesters out in force in Melbourne and Australians in uber vehicles.
Uber has a fantastic model, but again, most of the money is flowing out of Australia and not taxed properly.

        • +2

australia already has no technology and no manufacturing, what are you talking about?

as much as i feel like for foxconn and the congans with their tantalum, the reality is that the big get away with it and people love their $1k+ phones

this isnt a fight worth having… apple won

          @tonyjzx:

          Are you replying to me?

I'm saying that other tech giants like Google and Microsoft also pay a small amount of tax on the profits they make in Australia.

        • no of course not, its well known the multinationals will use national borders to minimise tax

an example is Microsoft, they have billions stashed offshore they wont bring back to the US because the US has tough company taxes… so the money they rip australians off on ends up Ireland or Switzerland

  • "If only people knew where there money was going and what they are paying for."

    As in FoxConn, or ??

    • The wages of the workers who make the phone, duh.

And with every iphone you buy, you save the life of a starving ethiopian child, help to reverse the impacts of climate change, bring back extinct species such as the Dodo and Thylacine, and help to vote Tony Abbott out of office.

It's truly the most remarkable phone we've ever created.

      • holy smokes, i NEED to jump onboard now! /s

Poor men and women at FoxConn. It really is a sad story.

  • foxconn makes about 2-3% of the sale price of the product they make, the workers get a portion of that.

  • -1

To all you Apple buyers out there:
"It would take 2.5 years of Foxconn wages to afford a $10,000 Apple Watch".

I just hope people would reconsider where they invest their money. If you're an elitist who doesn't mind trampling the poor to get what you want, then please move along. There's no convincing you.

Australians should start investing in ourselves. I'd like to see an Australian economy that doesn't depend on coal and an inflated housing market. We can do better.

I don't like to demonise people, but I really wish more Australians would give our young entrepreneurs and dying technology sector a fair go.

Says the one happily posting eGlobal deals, and a huge fan of shopping from overseas sellers

Your horse is high, but your common sense is low.

      • +1

So commenting in a thread automatically means I bought something from the store or picked up the deal?
People like you do the same thing to everyone who makes a comment similar to mine. You go into people's history and make a lot of assumptions.

For the record, the only thing I have bought in the last month from an ozbargain deal was the Audio Technica M50x headphones from the co-op bookstore, an AUSTRALIAN retailer.
The eGlobal deal I posted was the first deal I have ever posted and I did that, because Australians were being ripped off by a huge margin. I posted quality headphones for approximately $60-100 lower than Australian prices.
Your assumptions are great, but you're not very factual.

        • +4

Your assumptions are great, but you're not very factual.

Unless I knew you personally, all I have are assumptions. Like the assumptions that whatever electronic device you're using right now to access OzBargain, wasn't made in this country, from parts made and designed in this country. Like the assumption that some device you own, some piece of clothing you wear, was made by some kid getting paid SFA to make.

The eGlobal deal I posted was the first deal I have ever posted and I did that, because Australians were being ripped off by a huge margin. I posted quality headphones for approximately $60-100 lower than Australian prices.

So what you're saying is you don't care how the company can get it to you for that price?

You can't just simply decide that 1 company is bad without opening your eyes to the majority of 21st century production.

        • +2

Oh, and yes I can pick your actions to piece based on your profile.

          + vote on DWI
          + vote on overseas competition
+ vote on HJs deal - owned by an overseas company

          and the list goes on.

But hey, you choose who to cherry-pick and attack, whilst supporting other companies that do the same thing.

          @Spackbace:

Actually Hungry Jacks is Australian, similar to Coca Cola Amatil. They pay the Burger King corporation for rights to operate using their IP. It's why a few years back Burger King tried to cut out the middleman and operate as themselves, but then closed down as Hungry Jacks dominated them.

        • @Spackbace:

You're speaking total nonsense now and going off on tangents.
Maybe you should speak with facts rather than with ozbargain votes. You place too much emphasis on the services of ozbargain. IF you don't have the facts, then please quiet down. You're clutching at straws.
          Android authority make great videos.
Hungry Jacks is a revolting place and I think I have had it once or twice when I was a kid.
DWI offer cheap prices, so it gets a +vote.

We are all complicit in buying foreign products. Do you want me to start with nothing and wear no clothes before I can make an argument?
YOur arguments are incoherent and outlandish. I'm a citizen of the 21st century. I can only do so much.

Lol I'm reminded of a saying about a pot and a kettle.

        • @Spackbace:

          Again, evaluate?

Do you disagree with anything I have said? It all sounds true to me. I think you're pretty offended by the truth.

While Apple can legally avoid paying their fair share of Australian tax now by transfer pricing, it is just morally wrong to do that. Those taxes they avoided paying in Australia have deny a lot of government programs from going ahead or maintained due to lack of fundings, of course it is not just Apple, Google and other big multinationals are the culprits too.

  • I never knew Apple was in the snake oil business…

2GBs of ram instead of 1GB. Wow.. No other phone has this. Baaaaa…

  • +12

This is a pretty dumb post.

    • -7

      So is yours.

  • Well it looks like the $170 Meizu I ordered the other day to replace my old iphone will allow me to keep $1000 local to get taxed at Australian businesses.
Mind you, I'm pretty sure JD.com and Meizu pay less tax than Apple!
It is almost as if the whole tax system/free trade arrangements have been set up to benefit the rich and powerful at the expense of the poorer and ordinary!
