This appears to be the Chinese version of this phone based on the gearbest listing. The 4G bands on this one are limited to band 1 and 3 which isn't the best for Australian users in most cases.

Why Asus thought this insanely confusing model structure was a good idea i'll never understand..

    • They just went with the market dependent way. The Chinese version only has those bands because those are the ones used in China. The version for Taiwan has 700MHz because they use 700MHz as one of the main 4G frequencies (AFAIK no where else uses B28 700MHz at the moment other than TW and AU).

      • Oh for sure. I mainly just pointed it out as the OP is a little confusing in that it doesn't indicate which version of the phone it is in terms of band support, it just lists the whole lot of them :-)

It's still a reasonable deal in the right circumstances, I'm with Boost so have no need for 4G at the moment anyway so if i was actually after another phone i'd definitely consider this one as an option.

    • Sorry I have updated this.

This phone will work with Telstra 4G as it runs the FDD 1800mhz band

        Haha, no problem.
4G is still a bit of a pain in that it's still being rolled out in many cases , ie Telstras newer 700Mhz Band 28 rollout should really improve things range and coverage wise for 4G services for devices that support it.. which isn't a whole hell of a lot of them yet unfortunately.

Guess it kinda depends on people's requirements, by the time the 700Mhz network is common enough and necessary enough we will probably be another phone generation or 2 past these ones…

  • Do NOT trust Gearbest. They are liers and cheats. Dont believe anything they say. I have found it's all lies lies lies. Had to force a refund via Paypal for an item that never arrived. They offered to refund. never happened. They offered to resend. Never happened. They just had a flash sale at ridiculous prices. But only 1 piece on offer and impossible to buy it during their flash sales. Stay away from Gearbest!

    • I can certainly appreciate that, I have heard some horror stories.

But I have personally placed 8 orders with GearBest and all of them arrived within 4 weeks.
I had an issue with one item going missing and they sent out a replacement within a couple of days.

It may just be a case of a few bad apples ruining the bunch?
Might be worth seeing if we can find a representative to find out what is going on.

  • It's now listed at $229.99. Is Gearbest denominated in USD or AUD?

    • Gearbest defaults to USD

  • Got this phone set it up in english but chinese stuff keeps popping up all the time any ideas (updates come up for me to accept or reject in chinese)
