Cashrewards.com.au did not track my eBay transactions over $500+

I've used the cashreward site for about a year and the experience hasn't been too positive. They don't always capture my transactions, especially the the big ticket items, for example when I bought items from asos or eBay that total $30 to $50 the transaction is accounted for, but when its items from $500+ cashreward never accounts for these transactions. I've followed all their instructions and when I contact them to follow up they can never trace the purchase and simply send a generic email response.

Are they pocketing the "reward"? What have Ozbargainers experienced?

  • Surprisingly, it has been a good experience for me using cashrewards. I had a massive auction win with graysonline, it took a long time but eventually they did get the cash back after a few emails, $200 bucks worth so it was worth it.

    • Same here. There was a transaction that did not process after 90 days, sent them an email, got a response the following day with the cashback processed.

OP, did you read the fine print? Some merchants have a 90-day processing, to avoid those clowns who would return items once they get the cashback.

  • I always seem to receive my cashbacks, but sometimes it takes a few weeks for it to register on the website. I've purchased a couple of goods over $1k and they've all registered. I always close all my windows and open a fresh incognito window straight to cashrewards.

It takes a million years to get the transactions approved, and occasionally they will be declined based on using multiple coupons, but it is good for what it is.
I have withdrawn $140 cash in the last 12 months or so that I would not have received otherwise, so I am a happy customer.

  • yes the system should be more robus, ie instant confirmation and time must be 2-3 days max. i never have high expectation on them. its just a cream on top of the cup cake sometiems i dont bother to eat the cream at all.

Is it worth selling your privacy for what cashrewards offer?

    • +4

      Negs?

It's a serious question and a contribution to the discussion, what do they give you money for?

I sincerely doubt it's for customer loyalty or the kindness of their hearts.

Information on your purchasing habits is worth money to companies like this, is it worth the trade off and the spam mails/ calls you might receive?

I looked at the T&C and felt very uncomfortable about what they got from me. Am interested in other experiences.

If it works anything like flybuys shops (a product I worked with while at Coles) they get a referral fee from the retailer or service provider as a percentage of each transaction, and they pass on some or all of it to its members.

      • +1

what do they give you money for?

They take a cut of the affiliate income before passing the rest to you. For example eBay pays them 7-8% affiliate income and they pay just 2% to the end user.

      • +2

A business is not a business if their primary objective is not to make money, so of course it's not out of the kindness of their hearts. We are always their secondary priority.. and I have no issue with this, as long as it's still a win-win.

Having said that, I haven't read the T&Cs but I don't have an issue with using CashRewards at all.

To me, eBay have my info and purchase history anyway, and me purchasing through CashRewards is just one more company knowing what I buy. Yes, CashRewards will also know what I buy from Groupon, Living Social or whoever else, but that's fine with me, because all I wanted really was some additional cash for making a purchase I was going to make anyway.

I understand this has value to them, and that's ok with me, since they pass on a cut of that back to us!

95% of the time it has automatically tracks the transaction and on the odd occasion it doesn't i've emailed them and they've been able to manually verify the transaction, I've also cashed out about $100 :), no scam for me

  • thanks for the feedback, I guess its me not them :/

I haven't used it extensively, however for some of the small transactions it has eventually worked. The one large transaction I have made, a $400 compututer through Dick Smith Ebay, was rejected. I emailed them and received a reply that they had not received tracking advice for the purchase, that in future I should their guidelines and that there was nothing else they could do. 2 weeks later, the computer listed on my site but with a red negative. So obviously they did receive some sort of tracking. So I might partly agree with you, the site is not perfect or transparent. I thought it was strange that it has worked for some of the smaller stuff, but failed for the one large purchase I made.

same happened to me too for 2 transaction i made for Accor
they only approved the lower transaction and the ignore the second transaction which is higher.

  • I got 75$ back. but it did take about three months. I have been using shopandmint.com now.

    • got any money back from them yet?

      • Their minimum withdrawal amount is 50$. My cashback hasnt reached 50$ yet. Also they have a signing bonus of 5$.

  • just avoid oo.com still waiting for over 6 months for the cash back to be credited, and thats on two separate items on two separate days

Spent over $250 at deals direct and it was rejected. Still trying to follow it up.

It's VERY hit and miss. Trying pricepal.com.au now to see if they are any better.

I had a $200 transaction rejected from Deals Direct too.

All of the cashback sites work pretty much the same. If you have an issue with one, you'll most likely have an issue with the other (unless it's a technical issue).

Cashback Site —> Affiliate Network —> Store, then goes Store —> Affiliate Network —> Cashback Site.

However, the stores can often delay for ages or simply decide not to pay. It happens to OzBargain and other websites using affiliate links with zero recourse.

It does sound like a technical issue on your end. Best bet is to:

    • Use a different browser,
    • Clear cookies
    • Turn off any ad blocking plugins or software.
    • Make sure you access the retailer via the cashback last. If you click through via another site, you can be given a different cookie which will negate the one given to you by the cashback site.

Not a scam (in fact people use 'scam' way too lightly, when something slightly goes astray), paid for $2000+ receiver on Ebay last year and subsequent $400 speakers twice, got all my amounts credited correctly and automatically.

Payments that use things like Paypal etc will take longer because Paypal has a 120 day claim policy. Will mean they'll hold back cashbacks in case you get a refund and they still pay you.

    • +2

+1 to people using the word 'scam' way too lightly.

      • +4

        isn't this a scam?

stop scamming people by telling them this scam isn't a scam. doing that is also a scam, you scammer.

        scam

        </sarcasm>

  • Bought my dell for $1100 via ebay and got $22 back. Can't complain.

  • Not sure if it is a "scam" persay but the tracking relies on a lot of factors where many things could go wrong and not count your purchase. I normally start a new session in private browsing/incognito mode so no cookies or cache are going to interefere then the very first thing I do is disable adblock so no tracking cookies would be blocked. I then find the URL for the store I want to buy from in my main window (not incognito/private) and copy/paste the cashrewards url into the private window, login from that and then click the link again and complete your purchase. This way it guarantees that everything is 100% okay from your end.

Also as soon as you are finished with your transaction, make sure you logout like for instance cash rewards to eBay, finish eBay transaction, logout of eBay and then logout of cash rewards. I try to be aware and not click on anything else in between and have had better tracking.

  • I would say small part of it is a scam.Cashback websites need running cost so that they will withhold reward as long as possible and sometimes even pocket some reward. In most cases, above 90%,they will issue cashback if you are doing it correctly.

  • If you have bought something from David Jones via Cashrewards in May,you might get the confirmation letter today.I found Cashrewards has stuffed up some transaction records by duplicating one more(One pending, one approved).

  • I'm not sure it's a scam but it takes a ridiculous amount of time for the amounts to be available. My largest purchase was my first and that was one year ago this month with the amount still pending. I sent them a message and although someone replied that they are looking into it, that was in July. I wish Ebates would be available for AU stores, they are do much better.

  • My experience with them has been positive. Big ticket items cashbacks were accounted for and I got paid, though they took a while to get through to my bank account. I don't think it is a scam and it would be unfair to brand them as a "scam".

  • I purchased a fitbit from Good Guys on ebay and before I left the cashrewards site I noticed they suggest you make sure the seller marks your item as sent. I collected the fitbit from a store the day after purchasing but it still says my order is being prepared (on my ebay account). I have contacted Good Guys but they are absolutely clueless. I did receive notification of tracking from cashrewards though so hopefully it goes through ok.

  • Not a scam, but it can take months for them to make the rewards redeemable. And some transactions don't track and then it requires a follow up and can take months again.

  • Not a scam, works for me! Just takes a while dude

  • I brought 8 items from Iconic two weeks ago in one transaction without using any coupon codes. Out of the 8 items, only the three cheaper ones are tracked. Similar situations have happened a few times before. Can't understand why ……

    • +3

Probably because it doesn't work if you just bring it. You need to buy it ;)

  • i wish there was some way to identify IF your transaction was done correctly. I just purchased a $250 item from DealsDirect, followed the process correctly, but i won't find out if i will get anything back for up to 7 days?!

slightly off topic: tried to use Europecar through cashrewards and it wouldn't let me select a car. Jumped on to Europecar by itself and viola! was able to select and book vehicle. Sometimes the partners also restrict what you can buy through the affiliate link.

  • i have a separate browser i use JUST for cashrewards transactions. Since i started doing that, i dont seem to have any issues

  • well I had a graysonline cash back - one totalling over $4k - so $200+ cashback…it had registered on my transactions list - but now…that 90 day has passed - the transaction conveniently has been declined…hmmmm have lodged tickets with graysonline and cashrewards…

  • Andrew here from Cashrewards. As with all cashback sites worldwide, around 1% of transactions don't track for a variety of reasons.

As you’re probably aware, Cashrewards is the largest provider of cashback in Australia.

In December alone, approximately $1m was earned in cashback for our members. Around 100,000 cashback transactions were completed successfully.

In the grand scheme of things, non-tracked transactions are minor but still extremely irritating for our members.

I’ve said this a number of times through these forums - we guarantee to follow up with every member on every transaction issue.

You are also most welcome to PM me here to resolve any issues with tracking or anything else.

At Cashrewards you really do Get Paid To Shop and we GUARANTEE all genuine purchases will earn cashback provided you follow the simple on-site guidelines.

Additionally, we have now significantly improved payment times for our members.

A number of Cashrewards stores have in the past been slow to approve and pay for rewards. From 2016 many of the most popular Cashrewards stores have agreed to faster payment times which will mean much quicker payments for our members.

Again any queries, suggestions or feedback please do not hesitate to PM me for quick response.

    • Hi Rep a booking with expedia, it's saying it didn't click through or register the event?

      • Hi random101. Please PM me your CR email address, and a screenshot of your full invoice and I'll look into this for you.

  • right deal at the right time!
Cash rewards 8% return, bargain +

  • You know what I have now had this happen to me now as well.
Had two large purchases on hotels.com last year which for some reason didn't track so I opened a ticket - sent invoices and times matched my click history and I get an email that it's added in manually - ticket resolved. Travel happens and approx one month afterwards I ask how long it will be for it to be available for cash out. Come back to me and deny it entirely … 6 Months after the initial ticket was approved to be added in as a tracked purchase. I even received an email from the CEO wishing me safe travels because it appears in their system (yes I know this is probably not really from the CEO but it means it was in the system properly when they manually added it in).
Interesting how it's somehow denied (even though it was already approved last year) and is my biggest purchase so I have to say this thread popped into my head.
Shame as I could've used another portal for hotels purchase but I thought more highly of cashrewards.

  • Interestingly, my $933.44 Ebay Purchase from MArch 17 still hasnt tracked.

So I am lodging a query.

My question is the Cashback value. Is that based on the Merchant Invoice value, or the Paypal paid value? (given that Ebay have their 5% off coupons etc)

    Thanks in advance.

  • I have roughly 50% of my eBay purchases track, sometimes weeks after the purchase. I have put in claims recently with no response. Interestingly, I just made a purchase on Book Depository and it tracked immediately, same for other sites most of the time.

    • Worth noting that CR tracked my eBay claims shortly after I posted this. Well done to them for honouring them.

  • +1

Has anyone else found that Cash Rewards is getting REAAAAAAAAAAAAAALLY slow to honour the cashbacks? I used to find it would take maybe 4 weeks to get say a Dan Murphys order credited. Now i'm still waiting on about a dozen (not all Dan Murphys lol) from Jan and Feb

    • +1

It does feel like it's taking longer but what I've noticed is they're not getting tracked either so I have to pay close attention after purchasing something. I have their toolbar thing downloaded so maybe that's not working anymore. I also had that toolbar downloaded for hotels purchase that they did not honor.
I don't really have faith that their system works as well as it perhaps it did previously.

      • +2

Ditto. I'm finding considerably more items aren't tracked, despite the fact i'm very careful about it. And i'm the suspicious type, since I notice its usually larger purchases that don't get tracked, like my Ancestry.com year membership
