Quadcopters with FPV for around The $100 Mark

I am interested in buying a quadcopter for at most $100 bucks..

I was looking at this one.. http://www.gearbest.com/rc-quadcopters/pp_226091.html

https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/203807

How well will a quadcopter of this size work in the wind?
Does it automatically return if it is running out of battery?

I'd just like some those who have bought something like this - and what to look out for and any recommendations.

The uses are quite recreational.. would like to shoot some good video.. but doesn't have to be professional.

Thanks.

For $100 FPV you could buy The Syma x5sc and get The FPV camera, or buy the x5w.

Spend a bit more and get the bigger x8w. I think it has the same camera as the x5.

  • This one looks almost identical to the Syma mentioned by cameldownunder

    • Cool - but it doesn't have the FPV. It would be great to get it locally - at a reasonable price.

  • Aldi have one with a HD camera for 99 bucks. Seems good on specs.

What is FPV? ford performance vehicles?

  • Does it automatically return if it is running out of battery?

Not unless it has GPS. Most devices will just fall out of the sky if they lose radio signal

I don't think they'll have good video, if anything i'd be watching footage on youtube to see what it comes out like. FPV footage is <480p, it may however have seperate onboard recording, which could be 720p+

  • The aldi one is just a rebadged Syma X5C. You can get one from the like of banggood for about $80 AUD. You could also buy a spare X5C, without transmitter or camera, for $34 AUD. This would give you spares for the inevitable crash and another battery.

You will need to spend $150-$200 for a lower end FPV quad. Some come with a screen and some you can attach a mobile phone to the controller for vision. The one you linked to would work ok but have a limited range (50-70m?).

Really you should just start with a cheap one and get used to flying it before splashing out on something a bit more up market. Some people pay 3-5k for a bells and whistles quad but each to their own. Just note that the only reason to buy the aldi one would be so that you can have it in your hands right away as it isn't really a bargain.

  • If you are new to quads, the syma is good if you want the best bang for buck I recommend the yizhan tarantula from banggood or tiny deal.Very powerful 300 metre range and now the fpv is available also from banggood.I use mine more than my cheerson cx20 the price of tarantula is around 90-95 best toy grade quad by far.
