80

Hey guys this is my first post,

Just was browsing the Aldi website when i saw this and i thought some others might like it.
I'm in the process of looking for a 32" lcd for my nan and from what i have seen, this is pretty good value.

I wasn't able to find an expiry date just the following: "special buys from thurs 07 jan - hurry, limited stocks in store".

Hope you like it, and enjoy.

note: this is only 1366 x 768 resolution

    • Cheers for pointing that out. Chances are though, if you're looking for a cheapo LCD, you won't care too much whether it's full hd or not. Real good for people like the OP, buy it for your old folks who wouldn't be able to tell the difference anyway.

Most people can't tell the difference unless its bluray or PC 1080p anyway. HD TV won't look any different.

        • True. Unless you have the TV up close (less than 4 feet) you will not notice the difference between 720 VS 1080p.

          • @scrimshaw: False!! I have a 1080 32" Samsung LCD and I sit 4-5 mtrs from the screen.
There is a very noticeable difference in detail between 1080 and 720 with
            this setup!!

            • @chatswoo: Well, you single handedly disprove this chart then: http://www.lowtek.ca/roo/wp-content/uploads/2008/04/resoluti…

              I can't always tell the difference between 720p and 1080p sitting 3 metres from 40" 1080p set.

              • @cyssero: I don't think you guys understand.

That chart only works when you are using perfect quality video such as blu-ray or 1080p videos from your computer.

When watching HD Television it is very very difficult to see the difference.

The main difference people see is the actual quality of the television.

a 720p Panasonic Plasma TV will look better then a 1080p Sanyo Plasma TV when watching TV.

The reason for this is Digital TV use very low bitrates for their 1080i content. In addition most channels are in Standard Definition anyway.

                • @samfisher5986: I agree samfisher - in fact that's why I posted the chart.

Most of the time (90%) we are watching 480p and at best, 720p or 1080i. We know FTA will never do 1080p OTA so it's almost fair to say even 'regular' HD TVs will look the same as Full HD TVs. I say almost because video processing, contrast ratios, upscaling, motion interpolation etc found in higher end 1080p sets can make the image look better.

But a cheapo $599 1080p 32" LCD is hardly going to look better than a $549 720p/1080i LCD.

Good price for an LCD with inbuilt DVD. However, I am always hesitant about having the DVD players inbuilt having seen the failure rate of many. Things have improved lately, but the most likely component to fail in this TV is the DVD player. If it's not a modular design, then you have to send the entire TV away just to get the DVD fixed.

If you absolutely 100% need a DVD player inbuilt - then it's good. Otherwise, you can find a similarly priced or cheaper unit without the DVD inbuilt and pickup your own DVD player for a reasonable price. I think there were a few 81cms around the $500-600 mark with more than a years warranty, so shop around and see what suits you.

(Of course, for places like caravans, people who don't like multiple remotes and wires, these things work well most of the time and save a bit of hassle).

    • I just think of the DVD players on these things as a bonus (plus as you say they do save on cords/remotes/space). If it dies just buy a cheap player and attach it via the many ports available.

  • Gawd… this resolution thing is a joke… as many have said, and I too agree… unless you are the type to crawl up with a magnifying glass and start counting dots you may see a difference… but then you would seriously need to get a life.

Any LCD with b/i hd tuner is more than suitable for the average user and having a b/i dvd player in this one makes it a good set for the bedroom.

Only problem is .. electronics from Aldi are not recommended… buy at your own risk. Better to pay a bit more for say a Panasonic / Sanyo and get some build quality in the product.
