  • Wasn't it $200 a few weeks ago?

  • I think so from memory, not to mention a $100 at DJ will probably get me a small box of chocolate. thanks for posting though.

  • i think you had to pay for the annual fee last time though?

  • it was $200, but you had to pay the annual fee. so this is equivalent, but now you won't need to pay $99 to get $200, you will get $100.

  • I do not see where it mention no annual fee.

    • it doesn't on the website. but if you apply in store, they will waive the annual fee.

      • Thanks! Would that be nation wide or just particular store?

  • when does this offer end? are all DJ stores offering this no annual fee for the first year deal? if so i might go back and reactivate my cancelled amex dj card since i hadn't used it and was offered 2 months to reactivate it without having to go through the reapplying process.

  • Never owned a Credit card before, any fees or minimum amount of time for cancellation after I signup?

  • if you have Never owned a Credit card before i don't recommend this one. go for one that offers no annual fee for life like like HSBC card or the Bankwest zero card etc, yes theres always hidden fees if you pay late etc just read the letter offer and terms before using it and some shops charge a surcharge for amex. no minimum amount of time for cancellation i cancelled mine without having used it and before the annual fee was due. hope that helps.

  • Not too bad…

Sign up… Get $100 voucher…. Cancel card after a few months.

    • NO

      Incorrect.

  • So, if you cancel the card after a few months, you still won't get charged the fee right?

  • Can anyone confirm you can get this, and cancel after 10months and won't be charged a cancellation fee
    Cheers

  • last time i checked the dj amex.. you had a join fee, a statement fee, a cancel fee, a 2nd card fee, a fee for the fee, etc.. (this was when you get $200 and pay $99 anual fee + all the other fees.. etc
got the amex through cba.. and have no fees whatsoever.. and even get double the points, so wil a few $100's in the first year.. and can spend it wherever i want..

  • I applied in-store. Annual fee waived. Points given once you spend a dollar outside the store. Then redeem points for gift card.

You can cancel the card with no cancellation fees whenever you choose.

The points system is actually pretty decent.

  • Not a bad deal but I can't seem to find any link on the site to read a PDS or summary of fees and charges for the card. If any one has seen it, could you please refer me to to it? Thanks.

  • dont forget whenever you apply for a creditcard (and get approved) it will stick on your credit history report - forever. BUT cancelling credit card does not appear on your credit history file..

Anyone know where to find the pdf of the list of fees for this card?

I want to know what % they charge for international transfer fees. ie. If buying something from amazon, what fee does amex charge for the USD -> AUD conversion.

    • Turd you can try and call asking for the pdf of the list of fees for this card. David Jones American Express Card General Enquiries 1300 36 89 89
+61 2 8271 8182 24 hours a day, 7 days a week or free call 1800720025 press 4 and ask to be transfered to dj amex. they send you a letter which has the financial table listing all fees if you get approved. its 3% of the converted amount they charge for the currency conversion fee. thus you best using a Wizard MC or a NAB gold visa debit card to make purchases outside of Australia . These two cards are the only two that i know off in Australia that don't charge foreign conversion fees. anyone else know of others please inform us?. btw i called yesterday and they told me that this promo ends Jan 17th 09 and that i had to sign up again in store to qualify. I might try and give them a call later today to reactivate my card over the phone otherwise ill have to find time to drop in at DJ to reapply to qualify for my free $100 gift card.

Pretty much everywhere charges you extra to use AMEX so not a bargain in my opinion.

    • That's typically limited to stingy small retailers. Any major retailer will accept Amex no problem.

I wouldn't call JB Hifi a 'stingy small retailer'.

        • I wouldn't call them a generous retailer either. But if you still want to shop there, just use other payment means? Big deal? You still get your $100 voucher for nothing.

When I went to cancel my DJ Amex card, I stupidly told them the truth - that I only wanted the $100 DJ Gift Card. The guy I told to then proceeded to tell me that I had to either pay the $99 annual fee or return the gift card if I wanted to cancel the card (I already paid off any outstanding balances). I said I was well within my rights to sign up for the card, get the gift card, and cancel the card. After putting me on hold for awhile, he told me I could keep the gift card and still have my card cancelled.

Lesson here is don't tell them the truth about why you'd like to cancel. He only tried to get me to pay the annual fee because I told him my real reason.

    • YEAP!

      This listing is 100% INCORRECT!!

NO free annual fee for first year!

I just signed up for the $100 voucher [As you do!], made a purchase within the first seven days of recieving the card, ordered and recived the $100 voucher, and then the bill came….

The scammers charged me [us] the $99 fee immediatly on the account, so i in turn immediatly rang and complained and they said that its NOT free of annual fee AND that they will cancel the card if i want [yes!] and that all i have to do is pay for my purchases [fair enough] AND mail the voucher back, NO i will NOT mail the voucher back, i will be using it, i went to all the trouble of giving my details and filling the form in, they can go to hell!

A few days latter they emailed me a "PR" form for feedback, boy did i let them have it.

Anyway, i am spending the $100 voiucher in there store, so they get it back in a round about sort of way! LOL

      Cheers

      • Note that this offer was back in January.

It changes all the time - and at the time, there was no annual fee.

        You missed out.
