    • I felt the same way when I first purchased it, but since I've installed the basic google apps and learned how to use the OS I've found it to be a great phone (at least compared to my old moto g).

    • Haven’t used an android device since jellybean and I’ve put my firmware flashing days behind me, but can’t we root and install a custom ROM e.g. cyanogen?

      • The rom needs to be for the phone otherwise it won't work.

  • 4px tracking site has been down for quite some time now…

Anyone else who ordered 5 or 6/9 got their phones yet?

    • 4px tracking site is useless, mine shipped on the 6th, yet to receive, I'm in Melbourne.

      • is the site working for you though, all i get is some code error and gibberish after keying in my consignment no and hitting track.

        • hasn't been working for the last couple days.

  • I got email on 6th that phone has been shipped out but still waiting..I am in sydney

Try this website with the tracking number (Found on whirlpool):

I received the shipped email on the 6/09/2015, the above tracking states:

    • Thanks man for link, mine arrived in oz on 4th October. Hopefully I'll receive it soon

    • Received it today. Love it so far, my son ordered one for himself after playing with it for half an hour.

  • Got mine today. Mine has flyme 4.5.2u on it. Google services are installed. Seems pretty good so far. Though one can't help but think of vanilla Android was on her how could it would be. I'm happy though. Will upgrade firmware and hard reset before moving my sims and cutting them across. The tap back button is fine to use.

    • That's good, I do hope I'll get mine soon :) fingers crossed

    • Yeah also doing some reading if you want to upgrade firmware u have to go for the A version. Not the I version. Apparently you can go from U to A. Honestly im not going to bother unless i get some bugs

      • This is the latest U firmware, click that "联通" to get the U version. U is for China Unicom, and A is for all (except China telecom).

        http://www.flyme.cn/firmwarelist-10.html

        • thanks I did update. Unfortunately google play can't connect to internet at the moment….did you encounter same problem?

        • +1

@fozzie: I did mine ota. I think you need to reset to factory and install from app center. Google it.

        • Basically update to u firmware ota or download then hard reset. Then install google play services like in this link http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=HQyM4PpIMSIhttp://m.youtube.com…

          BTW Im liking my phone.

      • The OS is something called YUNOS, can I upgrade the firmware to latest U version?

        • I have the same issue. My Flyme version is Flyme FNYUNOS 88.5.1.A
This is a bit mysterious, but I think it is the Russian build. I haven't tried flashing a newer firmware yet.

        • @mskeggs:
Mine arrived today and came with the 88.5.x firmware, and the sticker at the back prints TD-LTE. Is yours the same? I haven't put a sim into it yet so don't know if it's going to work with oz 4G (FDD).

        • +1

          @mily:
Worked on Optus 4g and telechoice 3G so far.

        • @mskeggs: Good to know. I haven't got a nano sim on hand, will get an aldi sim tomorrow as I dare not to cut my pennysim further, there wont be any replacement if it get damaged.

  • Hi all, just got mine. Only played for an hour or so. Love it so far! Such a bargain.
There are some preinstalled apps that I don't like. Hopefully I'll be able to get rid of them soon. Seriously you can't go wrong at this Price there's nothing better.

    Hi All
Mine one got delivered to home .will check once I will be back home from work.

  • I can't use either Vodafone or Lycamobile sim cards on this Meizu M2 Note. Is there anything missing?

    • hi I just put a Lyca and have full 3g coverage (no 4g for lyca). I have done a full reset though and then it updated ota, but I don't know if before Lyca didn't work.

  • Got mine today.
Dumb question, but how do I change ringtones/system sounds?
If I select settings, sounds I can see the list of ringtone, message tone etc but they are greyed out. These are locked on my device - do I need to enable something or unlock some other setting to allow these to be changed?

    • that's strange, mine were not greyed even before I updated it….I don't have an answe r to that sorry.

    • Answering my own question my Flyme version is Flyme FNYUNOS 88.5.1.A which has a bunch of setting customisations greyed out.
This is a bit mysterious, but I think it is the Russian build. I haven't tried flashing a newer firmware yet.
I have installed a 3rd party settings manager to overcome it in the short term.

      • Does the sim card work on your phone? My phone just shows "no service" after put sim card in it.

        • I registered a new optus sim to use it.
It needed to be restarted for the data APN setting to be correct.
It now works fine with 4G for both voice and data.

  • Mine has some edge bleed on the bottom edge of the screen. It's bearable though for a china phone.

  • +1

Box wrapped in tranparent plastic looked good.
There was a Chinese instruction plastic on the screen with a new screen protector
    No instruction manual in english.
Found the volume button in right side chipped a little, although phone looks sturdy.
Phone response to home WiFi was good.
Phone exterior build quality not very good as appeared in reviews
Data cable provided looked used or atleast not new
Found Google play preinstalled.I just have to install the applications.
Still not able to update flyme firmware as told by mily above due to language issue .
Still have to put voda sim(as nano type is required) for final verdict
Above all not bad at less than $200
Will explore further my first ever Chinese phone

  • I'm loving mine! I just need to get used to bigger size as I come from iPhone 5.
I upgraded through link here however play store wasn't working so I did a hard reset and downloaded play services to install play store.
I have Nova launcher though as I don't like flyme theme. Also downloaded TouchPal and now typing is the bomb.
Phone looks sturdy, it is plastic but it has a good feeling.
I like the downloading app that came after hard reset, as I was able to download foreign apps straight away such as BBC player.
Compared to ulefone betouch 2 (which I had briefly as it developed a fault) this is so much better as well as being 1 third cheaper. Also it does not overheat at all, while ulefone was getting so hot.
If you Can manage a few tweaks it will improve your experience dramatically imo

  • No 4G signals and only 3G when i use sim and SD card together..anyone facing the same issue..

    • Hi I just added micro SD and sim in the other slot. It's picking up 4g (telstra prepaid) same as when it was in the other slot. My firmware is Flyme version:Flyme OS 4.5.4A as I have upgraded.

      • Thanks now i got it , i need to upgrade flyme as my firmware is Flyme version:Flyme FNYUNOS 88.5.1A
        Also
http://www.flyme.cn/firmwarelist-10.html and click that "联通" ……..this is to be done on phone or i have to download it on my PC and then transfer the setup files via MicroSD.

        • I have the same firmware. Keep us up to date on how the firmware upgrade goes.

        • Seems like doing it via PC has less risk. I think having the A version may be more straightforward in the long run than the U version like most of us have. Id really recommend a full reset ion these phone. god knows what they put on it. There was some tune up rocket ship spyware for sure!

          @mskeggs:
I have downloaded the update.zip HardyBro linked to (thanks!) and copied it to the root directory of my phone with the FNYUNOS 88.5.1A firmware.
I then rebooted it, holding down power and volume+ buttons. The screen asks if I want to do a system update, select it and continue.
The phone then checks the ROM update for integrity and updates.
When it automatically restarts, it displays an orange text in Chinese with a 4G logo. It remains on this screen for a long time (maybe 5-10mins) before showing the Flyme logo. It then displays "optimising apps x/x" This takes several minutes. You will note I didn't delete my data, it kept the apps through the process. The new firmware did include some additional Chinese apps, but they can be deleted.

So far, it looks like it has sorted out all the issues I had with restrictions on settings etc. Awesome.
EDIT: The languages available aren't as numerous. I had it selected to English (Australian) which isn't an option in the new ROM. Needed to select English (US) for the keyboard to work!

  • hey guys, I also got a strange (nothing found on google) version like 88.5.1A..

The phone was full of adware, forcing me to install apps, auto loading junk app webpages etc… was a load of bull&^%*… after much time spent, trying to locate the adware / virus to no avail, I found on a forum to try chinese flyme upgrade (A vers not U) which worked a charm… just went to the flyme chinese site and translated in chrome, found phone etc and downloaded 900odd mb, put on phone via usb then loaded it from documents..

Phone SOOO much better now, no forced installs or adware yet, battery is lasting at least twice as long, faster overall, few smal issues with getting all the google apps working but got it sorted.. can't believe it shipped with such cra*ware on it!

Could have easily given up as it took a while to find the info I needed but all in all, it's a great phone and I'm very happy, and so happy to have a proper flyme version on it, it as an OS is fine for me, I like it…

    • +1

I found exactly the same as it was originally sent. I did manage To rid adware as I've got Kaspersky mobile but then I just did a full release. I had to do more than once to get it right, I but now I also have Google Now. It is an incredible headset at this pricepoint. Worth much more, if you can upgrade the phone totally worth it.

    • Yeah there was bad stuff on there thats for sure.

    • here's the release website + notes + download link:
      https://meizufans.eu/forum/topic/2878/flyme-os-4-5-4-stable-…

just got mine phone and very happy with build quality for the price.

  • I have upgraded by downloading the file on PC and then transfering it to document folder of m2 note and then running the setup by clicking the file.the setup completed successfully.
Even after upgrading the firmware to Flyme OS 4.5.4A I am unable to get the 4G signals on my voda sim..its frustrating…

    • +1

Finally got 4G signal after reset

  • I got the version 88.5.1A like some of you. It is really a terrible one, totally unusable. Updated to Flyme OS 4.5.4U, lost goolge play store, finally got all back. You will need to install google service install and google app store to get it working. Believe you can download APK file and install manually though I did via the builtin app.

    Now everything is very smooth.

Good thing about this is if you want to give the phone to your family member, you can remove the original google account and add the new one. You cannot do this with the normal Android phone. You will have to do a factory reset.

  • Anyone successful in setting up of the google launcher. When i go to accounts and click flyme account then what i get is bloatware …Sina Weibo ,Alipay and not google .I am trying to personalize it but still not successful.
Also want to get chinese app stuff out..

    • Suggest you to manually download APK files and install them.

Search for google play store apk and google play service apk install

This is really not a phone for everyone. You will need to spend a lot of time to get it sorted out.

You can uninstall most of the Chinese apps via the normal way.

    • You can just remove alot of the bloat via the appcenter on the phone.

  • I manually installed Google Now etc. Also I'm using Nova launcher, there was Google Search on the top but it said that wasn't installed so I looked for it on Aptoide

  • I'm in Melbourne and yet to receive mine. Arrived in oz on the 4th. Anyone in the same boat?

    • Mine arrived in Sydney on 28th Sep however yet to deliver, maybe next week.

  • +1

    Thanks slackme.
finally after spending almost 5 hours in three days including firmware upgrade the phone has been over hauled to what i want.now i am loving it… notification light is working aswell which i thought was with white version…nova launcher is now default launcher and not flyme..this phone has lot to offer…

    • Yeah nova laucher was key. Have an appointment drawer now, thankfully.

      • Yes I'm loving it too, after update. I keep tweaking adding different apps, widgets, etc…
I can recommend Netease for music (if you Google it you can find English apk), which is like a free Spotify (except you can donwload and keep move songs), Nova launcher and Touchpal. I keep Touchpal a little smaller on the right and nearly manage typing one handed :)

  • Some cons:
    - Phone camera autofocus ia not good..eg if you try to take image of a page or document then it appears to be blurry.otherwise photos are ok but not crisp and impressive.
    - 4G reception is poor for voda.its not due to network i think as at the same location my samsung S4 has full 4G signals.
    - headphone sound is not loud however speaker sound is good.
    - front 5meg camera is not good as skype calling pictures is transfered half and not sharp.

  • Finally received mine today, however on the back sticker it clearly prints TD-LTE !!

Are you kidding me, JD?? Anyone else received a TD version M2 here?

    • Mine said the same too

      • +1

It actually works with oz 4G, compatible with both fdd and td lte. Spent a night to flash the rom and install apps, now it's running smoothly. Not much to complain.

        • I'm glad you like it. Awesome phone especially for $119 us dollars. I'm too addicted at the moment…I had an iPhone 5 which had become really slow with iOS 8. But I couldn't afford another apple phone, plus Android gives you more freedom. So Meizu has proven a good choice so far. Pretty happy.

  • So my package was supposedly in AUSYD as of the 7 Oct 15. Anyone from Perth gotten their phone yet around the same delivery window?

  • Mine arrived yesterday but I was out of the house (Melbourne). I seem to be lucky as mine has android 5.1 installed. Seems like a really sweet piece of kit for the price. One problem I noticed is that the back camera is blurry. Can't focus or anything, is this likely a software issue or perhaps a fault I should chase up? Front camera works fine. If I can sort out the camera, this looks like an amazing buy.

    • Hi, just make sure you have Flyme version:Flyme OS 4.5.4A. Mine originally came with 5.1 but full of adware and would not activate all different 4gs. So just update if you have different firmware hopefully will fix the camera problem too.

      • Thanks for your quick reply mate. Mine says Flyme version: Flyme FNYUNOS 88.5.1A. Already noticed some adware, worth upgrading?

        • I would say yes. Then do a factory reset. And install Google services.

        • @sillyhead: Google services came with the phone. I'll keep you posted on my progress. Thanks again.

        • @jesho:

It's just there's some terrible apps that jd must install before you start out. And when you update Google services will stop. May as well not get too committed. Update to 4.5.4a, reset, install Google services installer as mentioned elsewhere on this post, then install nova launcher to get yourself an app drawer. Then you'll be setup properly and kickin' it and saying that dude from ozbargain was right…

        • @sillyhead: Did everything as instructed. The software is so buttery smooth, thanks for your help. Unfortunately rear camera still isn't focusing as HardyBro also noted. Couldn't find much info on-line, any idea what options I have left? Really want to love this phone!

        • @jesho:

funny enough with the the factory flyme OS 88.5.1A the OS seems quite smooth already. But i'm updating to 4.5.4 anyway to start from a clean slate.
The 'I' version has been released for M2 note and I'll give it a go as it has all google services pre installed…

    • recpetionist called to say package received. it had to arrive on the day i took work off!

      • At least arrived! Enjoy it is a bad arse phone…

  • +1

I upgraded to Flyme OS 4.5.4A but the 4G reception for VF network is still not continious and regarding back camera auto focus is not working at all.a new firmware might help.i am about to enquire this from meizu..
this phone features still are far beyond the price we have paid imo.

    • I dunno about Vodafone signal. I had telstra and 4g didn't seem very powerful indoors. I'm now with lebara and 3g+ works a charm. About camera try a different app, maybe google camera? I agree this phone is a bargain at $118 us. I had an ulefone betouch 2 briefly and m2 is superior in all areas, despite being one third cheaper.

      • I've tried camera360 and google camera. Unfortunately no luck :/. Photos are very blurry. Front camera works flawlessly. Not too sure what other options i have. I'v tried contacting JD, also posted on XDA. Still waiting on responses. Any idea what the returns process is like with JD?

        • Not sure but I believe if you are signed up you can claim postage back through PayPal. the quicker the better at this point to get replacement or money. Must be a faulty camera :(

        • @fozzie: Appears that way. Grrr. Sent the seller a message, if he can't help me our i'll open a claim on PayPal. Thanks for all your help. Looking for a replacement as i loved everything else i saw!

        • @jesho:

Good luck mate, I hope you'll get a speedy answer.

        • @fozzie: Organised a replacement with seller directly. Obviously need to send back phone first. Is there any way to protect myself in case they try something or should be fine?

        • @jesho:

I think you just need to check with PayPal. If you can get tracking number is better, as then you can prove you sent back.
I feel for you, I had a faulty ulefone from gearbest and 3 months later I'm still waiting…..
That's the risk When buying from China I suppose.

        • @fozzie: Hey mate, they approved a refund but Australia Post said they can't post mobiles overseas because of the battery. The seller said to use registered mail not DHL/UPS/Fedex/TNT. Any ideas?

Also I opened a Paypal dispute seeking a refund. The seller actually told me to do this. But because I bought it through JD, JD had to respond themselves. They told me to cancel the dispute and lodge a refund claim through their site. PayPal recommends keeping the dispute open until you receive the refund. Good idea?

          Thanks for all your help.

        • @jesho:

Don't close the dispute with PayPal. Try a different post Office. I posted the ulefone be touch 2 back using standard mail, it was a post office in a pharmacy (maybe it's different? )
Check with PayPal what they can refund for the postage. I was told that is better to use standard postage, otherwise might get blocked in China.

        • @fozzie: Thanks mate i'll head to the local pharmacy (with a post office inside) later in the weel. I'll keep you posted. PayPal said they'll reimburse standard postage (even with tracking).

        • @jesho:
          Standard it's $20 with tracking it's $50.
The thing that is weird is how on earth things arrive to Australia but can't be shipped back? Very strange…. Maybe in the pharmacy they don't know all the rules, hence they let me send it. However it is strange they get here in the first place, but can't be sent back.

        • @fozzie: Waah really? Are you sure it was an Aus Post? They quoted me $19 today for international shipping and tracking. I get refunded once they found out it was a mobile..

        • @jesho:

Yes it was just under $20 standard shipping. there was a sort of tracking number but didn't work. I didn't get refunded as unfortunately I didn't use PayPal :(

        • @fozzie: aah bummer sorry to hear mate! I really liked this phone, i bought a nice case for it too and everything. I was thinking, do you think it would not be a bad idea to ask the seller, whilst they process my refund, if they can offer me the phone for the price i paid and throw in free express shipping for my hassles?

Unfortunately i have to go overseas at the end of November. Given the expected shipping time frames i don't think i'll be able to receive the replacement phone they'll ship out only after receiving my faulty one. Any risk in paying before i receive a refund?

        • @jesho:

If you are paying as a new transaction I don't think it should be a problem. You would be covered as a new PayPal transaction.Someone on here bought express and they received phone within a week or thereabout. Go for it if you need it soon. What a pain, but if you get the working headset it is worth it.

        • @fozzie: Wish i didn't love it so i could just buy any other phone locally.. I'll let you know how it goes!

        • @jesho: How did you go with the return process

        • @HardyBro: Still going.. Local post office wouldn't accept the phone so had to go to another and told them i took out the battery.. Not going to get refunded until they receive the faulty unit. For some reason tracking isn't working yet either. Was after a replacement but it would of taken too long to receive since they'll send after they receive the faulty. Ended up ordering the same phone again which they agreed to sell for the same price but i paid $20 more for express. Still waiting for them to ship that. It's all a bit messy. Glad i have Paypal protection tbh. They asked me to close the dispute after they 'agreed' to a refund but i said i may aswell keep it open. Hopefully everything gets sorted out in the end.

        • @jesho:

Yes Jesho, don't close dispute. They'll have to refund you, but you know that if you have PayPal you are covered. I'm still waiting for the replacement from gearbest… It was sent on 25 October. I think ordering from China is only OK if you have a back up device, as if you are unlucky like we have been you need 2-3 months to get it sorted

        • @fozzie: Glad i didn't. They still haven't shipped the same phone i ordered and paid for a week ago. Nor have i been refunded the difference in costs. Worst of all i haven't heard from the seller for over a week. Very worrying. She emailed me yesterday after i posted in PayPal to say they'll ship the phone yesterday. Still nothing. They didn't mention anything about the refund either. Unfortunately my PayPal dispute closes today. I'm thinking that this seller is a lost cause and i'll just buy local. What do you think if i claim a refund through PayPal for the original faulty phone i bought and the replacement i paid for? I sent the faulty phone back a two weeks ago and sent seller tracking and postage details so nothing else i can do. I emailed the seller once more to say if they don't ship the phone before this evening i will claim a refund because it is taking too long and the claim closes. Thoughts?

        • @jesho:

You need to escalate immediately before it closes mate. Include your return tracking number.

Concerning the second order just see if it was shipped. Absolutely disgraceful, what you are going through it's terrible. If they don't provide tracking number just open a second dispute

        • @fozzie: Thanks mate, given your feedback i certainly will with the faulty mobible i've already returned for shipping. I have a tracking number but for registered international post you can't track on-line apparently, you will only get a notification when signed for. Does this sound right to you? I'm thinking since i'm going overseas i may just as well get something local, claim the GST back and forget these headaches. Thanks for all your help mate. Hope you're enjoying your phone. Lovely bit of kit it is.

        • @fozzie: Is it a good chance that pPayPal will rule in my favour? I'll say that i've sent the phone back last week, include the tracking number and say that poor communication with the seller has me concerned whether they'll actually refund the phone or simply ignore me. Anything else?

        • @jesho:

It was the same for me I just had to trust gearbest as I didn't receive any confirmation at all. Definitely you are better off buying local if you are going overseas just make sure they haven't shipped the second phone or you might end up with too many phones.
The new Meizu M2 note metal is about to come out, I wish I had waited as finger print is very appealing (plus faster processor and metal look), however still has to com From china
