Do Dick Smith Handle Warranties?

Hey dudes / dudettes, the el cheapo tablet I bought from this deal (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/181619) isn't reading the accelerometer anymore. Since it's still under warranty I want it fixed but doing the warranty stuff myself seems like such a hassle from what I've read on the laserco website.

Does anyone know if Dick Smith can handle the warranty claim for me! Thanks

Under Australian Consumer Law all businesses must provide warranty, at least for the first 12 months.

They cannot just tell you to deal with the manufacturer. That's how MSY got in trouble.

    • I wish someone would tell officeworks this. You seen the little card they give out with any piece of electronics with a list of manufacturers and contact numbers instructing you to call them if you have any problems?

yep - the seller is your point of contact

  • The retailer is your point of contact for warranty services.

  • My only experience with a warranty with Dick Smith is with a one month old TV and Dick Smith were totally useless. They didn't bother even sending the TV from the shop to the repair agent until I rang twice over a period of three weeks trying to find out when I'd be getting it back. They had no excuse.

  • Thanks for the replies guys. Hopefully DS will handle this aa painlessly as possible.

  • If its a el-cheapo tablet, its probably a write off and if they don't have any more stock of it, they will give you a credit on the amount you paid for it.
