Just saw these bikes in the catalogue.
Road bikes & mountain bikes for sale. The hybrid one called 'Men's Expedition Comfort Bike' is for sale at 274. It has Shimano 21 speed gears. Looks good. Good buy for casual riding in spring and summer. .. watch out for the Magpies ☺
Have a look at all the bikes here. http://www.anacondastores.com/cycling/bikes/c/bikes

Are they any good ? Or are they similar to the Kmart ones ?

Like asking what kind of pies are best, 'Own Brand' or 'Black & Gold'. Very low end components (Shimano Tourney), very heavy (17.2 Kgs) but at least the components themselves are Shimano so easily replaceable if they break. Nothing special, probably qualifies as a BSO (Bike Shaped Object).

That said if you just want to roll along a bike path somewhere occasionally it would do the job, just don't sign up for 3 peaks!!

  • I thought Mrs Mac's pies were alright after a Friday night bender, I'd be more concerned about the Magpies on a bike!

    • Haha , just realized that ☺

  • No disc brakes, crap groupset, thin frame. All reasons not to purchase this bike.

      Are pedals included ?

      • Is that a good one?

For the occasional rider, maybe. Cable disc brakes, poor groupset, Kenda no-name tyres, the mediocre spec goes on. But most MTB style bikes just end up getting ridden on bike paths, roads and flat trails. Anyone doing MTB seriously (ie trail rides with jumps, drops and other features) would be looking at a better brand and $1000+ I'm sure.

This is starting to get towards something that will actually last with proper components

To be honest, ANaconda has these 50% off Fluid bike sales all the time, the bikes prices are inflated at normal prices accordingly. E.g that Rhythm i just posted at RRP would be $1500, that almost gets you onto a new Giant Stance or XTC with a bit of haggling and that IMO is a much better bike…

        • @DJR9000:

Thanks DJR9000, Can you recommend a good bike for an 8yo ?

        • +2

          @jv:
My 8yo daughter is on a Merida Matts J20 I scored for free in a competition, and my 6yo son is on a Trek 20" MTB I scored from my local shop at 25% off. They both seem like good bikes although they don't really have the strength or skill yet to handle the grip shift that operates the 6sp of gears.

At 8yo it's more about fit than anything else. Don't buy something too big in the hopes that they'll grow into it, it will just mean they won't ride it much at all. Better to pay decent money on a brand name bike in the right size and then resell it when it comes time to upgrade to the next lot of sizing.

Lots of people like the Byk bikes also

        • @jv: Why the neg to @JV's question here? It's a reasonable question!

If you review it as a $549 bike, it is utter crap. Honestly - a joke. That price will get a quality brand-name commuter bike from a local bike shop.
    e.g. http://www.giant-bicycles.com/en-au/bikes/model/cross.city.2…

But surely nobody would be dumb enough to pay that for this?
Half price is normal price for Anaconda. I'd recommend looking at a real bike shop like Reid.
    Not a deal.

    • I've got the Reid Condor. Most people say it's a bad Reid but mine has survived. It is $249 the last time I got mine. I last bought it on 14/07/2013 and so far it's got both brake housings duct taped because they're broken but working. And a few flat tires. It still works and I still commute on it on cyclepaths. In the Anaconda bikes they use v-pull brakes and mine is better. I've used my bike in Sydney, Melb and Adelaide. I don't recommend the Reid Condor with all it's faults.. But I luv mine just saying.

    • As bad as Reid are, they are better than that Fluid rubbish. Reid at least offer free servicing, cheap parts which can actually be sourced and cheaper.

Yeah at this end of the market there is better deals around.

Reid, Cell, Giant, even Trek and Specialized have some value models available for not too much money.

  • What happens if it gets a leak? Can you refill them?
