Melbourne Airport: How to get there?

Hey guys, I live 20minutes away from Melbourne Airport, but I don't know how to get there by car. Is there a bus or something I can take? How can I find which bus to take?

Thanks, I'd DEEPLY appreciate any help!

Would you be able to provide your location or suburb etc? With only information that you are 20 mins away from Airport, none would be able to advise about possible bus route or any other help.

If you do not like to share suburb etc, best option would be to use taxi.

  • Thanks!

I'm in Gladstone Park. I was hoping there'd be a bus or something I can catch from Gladstone Park Shopping Centre?

Gladstone Park? That's like right off the airport! Catch the 901 bus in front of Gladstone Park Hotel and it will take you right into the airport! It's real easy.

      I agree with Banana.
If you're worried just talk to the bus driver before you get on and most of them should be willing to help.

Make sure you have a myki if you're going this way.

It should be a lot faster than having to go Spencer Street to get the skybus.

Get on bus 901 towards airport from:
Gladstone Park Dr/Mickleham Rd (Gladstone Park)
    Get off at Arrival Drive.

Use this with your journey times to get even more accurate info.

  • Thanks! I've never caught a public bus by myself before so I'm really nervous!

How will I know if I'm at the right bus stop at Gladstone Park?

Does 901 go directly to the airport? How does it work?

    • You need a myki. You check the timetable online and find a bus stop that says 901 to Melbourne Airport and get on the 901 bus

There's a bus stop actually on Mickleham rd just infront of the Gladstone park hotel. The bus you will need to catch is called a Smartbus. It has alot of orange colour on the outside of the bus. It will have a sign that says 901 which is the bus number and it will say Melbourne Airport. There is another bus that uses that stop that is called the 902 and it goes to the suburb Airport West. Don't catch that bus. When the bus approaches check with driver that it is the right bus before you get on. They will tell you. When you get on the bus the bus will drive briefly down Mickleham rd, turn right onto the Tullamarine freeway and take you straight to the airport. You will need to organise a myki card before hand. The myki card is a green card which you add money to and use for your fare. When you get on the bus there is a yellow scanner and you scan the myki to touch on. When you arrive at the airport you scan your myki again as you get off the bus so your charged the correct fare. That's called touch off. I noticed you called yourself "the pensioner" I'm not familiar with myki rates for older folk but you may want to check that out before you get your myki. Hope this helps.

get a taxi and they will take you straight there.
call and ask about how much it will be.

    This gives an idea

  • if you can get to the city (spencer st station) easily enough i'd recommend the skybus even though it will be a bit pricier than PTV alternatives (which won't take you directly to the airport)

that said, im not sure if you are serious when you say you have never caught a bus before? if you are truly in that elite class of people who has never caught public transport, surely you have the money to just get a taxi and be done with it. or have you never caught a taxi before either? in which case i have to ask - how old are you??

    • Wow, thanks PVA! Be great if I could catch a bus though.

I said, I hadn't caught a bus BY MYSELF and this is why I'm nervous.

901 bus now stops directly in front of terminal 1. You no longer need to walk from the tiger terminal. So will be quicker to catch a 901 from gladstone park than a sky bus from southern cross.

    Just get an uber.

edit: having thought about this, uber could be difficult if you're in the suburbs and need to leave early.

I would get a taxi. It wont be too much from where you are, and you can book it in advance.

Melbourne is a joke. Surely there's something going on behind the scenes, only the most backwater places don't have public transport going to the airport (was something like train, bus, bus to get from city to airport which also takes a long time).

    • I do find that weird the last time I was there. Although free trams in the city is awesome. Tourists just need to find their way to their hotel first though. Conspiracy theory anyone?

If you are nervous about your bus trip, you could always do a trial run prior to the actual day or as others have suggested, you could catch a taxi.

When your public transport is so bad you need to trial run to be safe

I've caught the 901 bus to and from the airport in July.
For some reason 80% of the people don't seem to tag on or off and the driver doesn't seem to mind.
It felt weird being the only one tagging on and off.
