I am buying a Samsung 46" 6 series instead for $1850, but sorely tempted to get the Sony - the 22" LCD with the Samsung swung my decision

Nice, especially with 200Hz and free blu-ray player. But the RRP on the link is $2699.

    • +1

Sorry the link is an online price only that is not the special.

Call the Sony Centre in your state - they will give you the $1999 price.

Be quick though, stocks are limited.

  • I soooo regret buying this 40" Bravia at the end of November for almost this price, and not getting a PS3, extended warranty or anything else for the matter! ARGHHHHH!

    • I know what you are saying - I paid $2800 in March for a 46" 6A Samsung with no extras too

Now I am about to buy a 6B with a free 22" LCD for $1850!!!

      • I paid $2800 for a 46” 7B Samsung that I got a 22" LCD with around April or May, was pretty happy with my purchase!

Now my folks are looking for a LCD TV for themselves and from what I can see this TV seems as good as the one I got cept $800 cheaper!
        Nice find!

In case you havent seen this, you may also wish to consider an extra $150 for a massive 54" 1080P Panasonic with free Nintendo Wii plus games..

        http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/20724

I just upgraded from a Panasonic 50" 720p to this 54" 1080p set and the increase in picture size and resolution was money well spent.. just watched BlueRay 1080p version of Twilight..

    • Haha same i bought a z4500(older model)40 inch with no extra sony warranty, no ps3 for $2200 GRRRRR!!!no one tells us about price cuts!

      • Glad I'm not the only one kicking myself..lol

I bought it yesterday, cost $1800 with 3 years warranty and blueray, it's bargain, Also HN did the same price and even allow you to finance it by 3 years without any interest. It's good for those don't want to pay lump sum. Please remember, the warranty promotion end on 31st Dec but you can log in at latest 31st Jan'10.

    • Hey, where'd you pick it up for $1800 from??? Would really appreciate a copy of the receipt….

    • -1

Do you mean you bought the 46" Sony Z for $1800??? If so, from where? Scan the receipt?

      • I don't have facility to scan the receipt at this moment, but I bought from Brisbane CBD sony centre. Actually they won't do this price for me coz it's definitely below their cost, however, I showed the receipt which I brought from Oxley HN ($1850), then the sales guy — I remember his name is "Elias"something, say he can do $1800 for me, then I asked a refund from HN and drop in SC then grabbed it.

By the way, according to HN, they showed their system to me, this TV costs them $2031 plus GST, SC also said this price lost money, don't know true or not but they mentioned the new series would come up on around April and should have new XBR series.

        Thanks.

Thanks hakiu. So your basically saying that HN is selling this TV for $1850? Is that their ticketed price or did you bargain it down??

with the receipt, you sure have a camera phone right? Just take a snap and post it here? :) Thanks in advance.

P.S. Sorry if I am asking too much. But since the bluray player promotion ends in like 2 days, those who are interested like myself need to act quick….:P

          • @mg_k: Just bargain it down — they can do $1996 without interest over 1000 days, so you should negotiate with their sales manager and require a pay it now price, they normally would agreed with $1900, you just say pay by cash and over a bit your budget and current interest rate is 4.25% and still goes up, then they should agree with that. Just bring this receipt and go to nearest SC to beat price.

How to post it? I do have camera phone, but I just relocated from Mel to Brisbane, I didn't bring the USB connect line with me, all these stuff still at Mel and will ship couple days later.

            • @hakiu: Thanks for the advice. I shall try my luck tomorrow….

Also with the receipt, if you have an iphones or the like, send the picture to your email address….

              • @mg_k: I am using nokia E71. Sorry.

          • @mg_k: Bonus Blu-ray got extended to 31st Jan I think, but 3 years promotion will end on 31st Dec.

            • @hakiu: yea ur right. Does anybody knows how much is the blu-ray player worth as i already have a ps3…

              • @mg_k: player rrp is $349 and 3 blu-ray discs valued at $98

                • @hakiu: Wow that was quick! Man wish they are giving out the ps3 instead….

                  • @mg_k: you already got one why need the second one? I prefer 23' sony bravia TV to instead.

                    • @hakiu: well ps3 worths more than the blu-ray player…and its a lot easier to sell.

i personally think 23" is too small, even for bedroom….

                      • @mg_k: Just let u know if interested with… I grabbed psp3000 smack vs raw bundle as $199 from Dicksmith 2 days before, this version can be modded, it really worth anyway.

                        • @hakiu: already have a psp, but thanks for the offer anyway…

I am going down to SC @ SYD tomorrow, will mention your case @ Bris SC and the guy's name and see how it goes…

                        • @hakiu: haiku you champ, i work @ dick smith and have never seen the psp for this price ! which DSE was this? a scan of the receipt? :P i'd love one for that price

  • The 46" 650 Samsung is a better TV, design wise maybe not, but definitely picture (and motion) is a whisker better. Both excellent TVs and wouldn't hesitate to pick either up.

To get a 46Z5500 for $1850 is a great deal - even the Sammy for $1850 is amazing (there is no stock Australia wide for a month or so - unless store has TVs in stock, of course).

    Hell, even at $1999 +1

    • -4

If you want a superior TV, you would not buy LCD.

      • +4

        depends on ur needs
ur stupid for just saying that

  • Nice, +1 from me. Thanks GreatWhiteHunter. Might have a look at the store tomorrow.

I'm such a sucker for the Bravia TV - simply from the design. Does anyone here own a Bravia XBR? Love their design, but is the price justified when compared to the Bravia Z series?

    • +1

      the XBR allows you to change the front panel on your TV to different colours/designs; more importantly it has enhanced image processing; it has built-in internet features (not sure how useful that is in practice, apparenlty you can download movies from Netflix/Bigpond/SonyStore/etc straight to your TV);

the best feature I see is the 120Hz which would make it 3D-compatible (according to wikipedia), if you have a PS3 to plug into it, and get some of those 3D-shutter glasses Sony will be selling soon — officially there are no '3D-ready' badged TVs on the market, until later next year, but several 3D-compatible models have been around for a while.

personally, I've compared the 100Hz SONY with the 200Hz at SC, and was wholly unimpressed with the difference (granted the sample BluRay material used may not highlight all the benefits, but it was their own selection), with that the promise of 3D (certain to be the only major change to TVs before we have holodeck-sized wallpaper TV screens) would definitely sway me toward the XBR.

      • Thanks for the info

  • Could you tell abt the samsung model and where you are getting it from?. (LA46B550?) Thanks

    • LA46B650 - series 6 46"

  • KDL46Z5500 vs KDL46WE5 - any one done comparison?. (for a NOT sportive person :-))

  • Just went and bought this TV from the Sony Centre-Melbourne CBD.
Harvey Norman & JB Hifi would match price although they won't have stock for a couple of weeks.
Myer had it for $2297 and wouldn't budge on the price.

Thanks Greatwhitehunter for the deal post,

P.S. This is the website for the Melbourne Sony Stores
