SharePoint product review: Please help us, testing and reviewing FlyView.

Hi fellow Ozbargainers,
We need your help, I and my partner have released a new SharePoint product last week that we belive would change the way SharePoint is used today.and carry the flag 'made in Australia' (one day!) whereever SharePoint is used.

We need your help..

FlyView for SharePoint, a Chrome Web browser extension, makes it lightning fast to explore SharePoint (Firefox & IE coming soon) intranet sites (office 365, 2013, 2010 and 2007) and discover the content. SharePoint is a great collaboration platform but due it's out of the box navigation is a major obstacle in becoming greatest. With FlyView we attempted to resolve this and the initial feedback is ver positove and encouraging. Like this from an ex Microsoft MVP.

“WOW mind blown man. It’s super-fast I can easily see this being very popular and super useful for SharePoint administrators and even end users down the line.
I don’t think I can go back to browsing a site manually after this.”

So can you please test and provide your feedback of issues and improvements? We would really appreciate, It took us about two years, working late nights and on the weekends while working full time on our jobs, tested as much as we could but now need a little help from real users.

Download directly in chrome (no server side installation or exe download) http://bit.ly/flyview

Wow this looks really good. I'm a SharePoint admin and this will definitely make my life a lot easier. Unfortunately Chrome Web Store is blocked at my work during 8-4 so I'll have to install it after hours to try it out.

    • Thanks! Firefox version is submitted and just got the update from my partner that IE version would be going out this weekend!

      • I was able to try it during lunch when our filter is a bit more relaxed.

I like it but I do have a few suggestions

        1. It would be good if there was an option to have the FlyView menu at the bottom of the screen so the ribbon menu stays clear. Maybe even by default because it's not easy when trying to access the ribbon tabs with the FlyView menu in the way.
        2. It would also be nice if I could access other site collections from the menu (not sure if there are limitations with the JavaScript object library to be able to do this). I'm guessing you might have already tried if it was possible.
        3. Lastly what are the minimum permissions required for this to function correctly? I'm only able to login with my administrator account which is fine but curious if normal users would be able to use this.

I'm also getting some 404's on some GET requests but I'm not sure what's causing that. Maybe just the way our security is set up.

        • Great feedback, highly appreciated

          1. Yes it is on our list of the features pending development - should be out within a month

          2. Yes accessing non-current SiteCollections is an issue from the client side, however an upcoming version will address it, by having anchors (favorites), where you could define site collections as anchors and they will stick up in the menu.

          3. FlyView acts as you the user, it can only do what the currently logged in user is permitted to do, so if a user cannot see some libraries/sites he/she will not see them either in the menu.

On the get request would be very interested in knowing what type of actions, so that we can simulate, you should not be getting 404 at all.

          Thanks again

    • We have added Site collection, site and list/library settings options to the FlyView menu, it will help you as an admin, please see the detailed post below.
      cheers,

  • That's quite neat, thanks!

I don't want to be the spelling Nazi, but I noticed that you made this mistake on your web page as well - you mean lightning.

  • Nothing for firefox yet still? :/

    • It has been 10 days and Firefox is still reviewing :s. But good to know someone else is waiting besides us :) thanks

    Good news x 2 and Bad News x 1-

Bad First: Mozilla's current waiting time in the plugins pending review queue is 24 weeks!. They are developing a new extension model that's they are busy with that and thus it is taking too long to get a plugin get approved.

    Now the good news
    1. You can still download the firefox plug from the firefox store… using this link http://bit.ly/flyviewFF .. it is not searchable in the store but can be downlaoded with a direct link… relief..

    1. We have just added site collection, site and list/library settings options to the menu… check them out, we are very excited! these new features will help the site owners and admins in particular.

Please if you like then help us, review in the chrome store… our nights and weekends are now dedicated to make FlyView better and more useful for you ,

  • We now have released FlyView for Sharepoint 2.0, with a whole lot of new features are added such as Instant search, History, Favorites, info window pinning etc, thanks for your help.
