$100 MasterCard Gift Card with Westpac Lifetime Protect Life Insurance (from $10.23 Per Month)

490

Westpac is offering a $100 MasterCard Gift Card when you take out Westpac Lifetime Protect online.

It's a great incentive if you're in the market for Life Insurance, or a good way to make up to $90 if you cancel upon receiving the gift card.

The premium will vary depending on your situation, but as an example, when I selected $50 000 cover my monthly premium came to $10.23

You must sign up online, be approved, and pay your first month's premium to qualify for the gift card. The gift card will be delivered within 30 days after the first month's premium payment, then cancel if you no longer want the insurance.

T&Cs:The Westpac MasterCard Gift Card will be provided after you apply for Westpac Lifetime Protect and your application for insurance is approved and you pay the first month’s premium. Please allow up to 30 days from your first premium payment for delivery of your gift card. Conditions apply to the use of the MasterCard® Gift Card (PDF 429kb) (Opens in new window). This offer is available once only per customer.

So pay approximately $20 to receive $100 gift card, good deal

  • +8

Yep done a few of these now, NAB, AMEX and now this one. They always think it's a bit weird when i cancel within a few weeks but I just tell them I got a better deal through a work policy.

  • +2

Just checked the T&C. You MAY be able get the $100 gift card completely free if you receive it and cancel the policy within 30 days. After 30 days, you can still cancel it but the first month's premium will not be refunded.

If you decide to cancel your policy within the cooling-off period, we will cancel your policy once we have received your request and will refund any premiums you have paid (less anyamounts of tax or duties which we are unable to recover).

  • Correct me if im wrong but isnt life insurance tax deductable ?

    • +15

      Correcting, you are wrong.

    • Theoretically, if you really wanted to mess around and had a super fund that would let you (unlikely unless you have a self managed fund), you could use pre tax super contributions. However, that's way more than $100 worth of hassle to probably save no more than $5.
You may be confusing life insurance with income protection insurance. For many people, income protection is tax deductible.

    • +1

Generally no. However, income protection (when not in super) can be tax deductible

  • +2

Is there a promo code for this ?

  • Sign up. Thanks

  • how much notice to we need to give to cancel?

  • Turns out if you were a single male born in May 1984. Westpac pays $150k on your death. Whereas if you were a single female born at the same time. Westpac pays $200k on your death plus you get to save a dollar on your premium/month. Does it mean westpac sees less women dying accidentally or have I uncovered something more sinister here. Hmm

    • +1

      Women live longer (generally)

      • All that extra melatonin me thinks.

    • +7

Think of it this way— chances are that the deceased policy owner had a spouse of the opposite sex. In which case males benefit $200k, and females $150k. Turn that frown upside down.

    • Males unfortunately don't live as long, and they tend to partake in some risky things in life (think about sports, daredevil stuff, trade work etc). IF you are more likely to claim (or in this case, die) - higher premiums

    • i born in april 1987 and male is cheaper than female. weird.

  • Mine was 11.91, born in `81, non-smoker, no hazards whatsoever…

  • I can't find anywhere in the website mention about this offer. Is it legit?

    • They might have removed it, but it was under the apply online button on the right hand side. Now it just says 'call' in that area.

    • It looks like they've removed it. It looked like this before.

  • +1

    offer expired?

  • i think expired, no mention of the $100 gift card anymore.

    • Can't even sign up online anymore, even without the gift card promo.

  • Anyone had a call about it since signing up?

  • no calls yet

  • They sent email and asked me to call them. I answered additional questions. Application being processed. Let`s see.

  • I got the email as well. Not sure whether to ring them or not. Is the gift card offer still valid as it seems they have withdrawn it?

    • If you applied when the offer was on, it should be valid.

  • GOT THIS

Thank-you for your recent Lifetime Protect Insurance application submitted online to Westpac.

Before your application is assessed by our Underwriting Team we would be very grateful if you could call us on 1300 133 817 to discuss your application further with one of our Direct Marketing New Business Team.

Should we call. are they just probing? removing promotion then checking if we seriously want to apply or something.

    • It seemed to me that the questions I was asked on the phone were the same as in the online form.
But the operator insisted they were different.
Once I get the letter I will call them to confirm about the gift card.

  • I just received my policy confirmation letter in the mail today. No follow up calls or emails. The letter says that the first premium will be paid in about 3 weeks time, so we will have to wait until after then before the gift cards show up (hopefully without having to chase them up!). If you haven't received a confirmation letter in the next few days I would definitely give them a call.

  • i got the email too.

  • Does anyone still have a screenshot with the $100 offer? Thanks.

    • I just found this online when I searched for it. Looks like it's still active on this site.

      • Yes, but on this it doesn`t show the $100 offer, it only offers online application.

        • agree. im worrying about doggyness of this…

any OP luckily took a screen shot before remove of this deal page pls kindly post up to forum

        • Hmm that's very strange. The link seems to redirect to the original website now, but it was showing a different page with the $100 offer still on it this afternoon.

does it need any more info screenshotted? like the date and time? otherwise hopefully these work

        • @brainseewey: thanks. much appreciated OP

will never know. Time will tell, but at least we have something to fall back on

  • One week after the phone conversation (I called them) still nothing in the mail.

    • Same here

      • Called them again and they said the application is still with the underwriters. No mail still.

  • Just got policy documents in the mail and says my first payment will be on 26 Sept. Will update if gift card comes through before then

    • Got it today, payment on 2nd October. Re-read the conditions, does 30 days after payment mean the deadline for the card is 60 days? If yes we may have to pay two months. Anyone got the card yet?

      • It reads like we could be in for up to two payments. On the other hand, the second payment seems like it should be less, as there was some type of $7-$8 policy establishment fee in my first payment which makes me think the second payment will be about $5 based on the absolute minimum cover. May be wrong though.

        • I wouldn't bet on it. The booklet states the monthly fee which is 10-11 dollars depending on personal circumstances. Still we'll be at least 77$ better off as long as they honor the deadline. Hopefully no issues, or will have to complain.

  • Terribly slow service

  • +1

I received the letter saying"cannot provide the cover"
    I applied a month back.

Anyone got this from their card? What's happens now?

    • Wait for gift card, when you get it cancel the policy.

  • Anyone got the card yet?

Debited my account yesterday and no card yet. Will let slide for 3 weeks

    Anyone got their gift card?

  • Also got debited and waiting.

  • +2

Got my card in the post today! Success!

    • When were you charged for the first payment? Can you use the card after you cancel the insurance? How long after the first payment you got the card? Thanks.

      • I still haven't got mine. should we check with them?

This offer has been so long now and hope not to make a lost from the result

Becsaver : did you apply on the 18/8/15 or 26/8/15?

        • You should wait 3 weeks after the first payment and if you get nothing then call.
Becsavers seems not willing to share the info.

        • @noskich: I got the card 2 weeks after my first payment. I applied on 18/08.

  • +1

Got my gift card yesterday. For a datapoint - I applied around 10am on 19/8, first policy payment was 26/9. So what's that - about two and a half weeks turnaround for the card.

    • Can the card be used after we cancel the policy?

    • +1

I should also note the 'gift card' is a pre-loaded westpac-branded Mastercard. I've used it instore and even online just now (funny, my online purchase asked for the cardholder's name, which is printed on the card as "Gift Card Holder". I used that name and it was accepted).

      • is there a pin for it? in store just press credit button?

        • +1

No pin. No cash withdrawal. Just credit button.

      • This goes for any online purchase. You can enter whatever you like in the "name" section and it'll still get processed successfully.

  • +1

Of course. It would be a generic gift card

    • Excuse my ignorance, I have never seen a cash gift card. I've only used retail gift cards so far…

  • Got card as well today. :)

  • I applied on the 25/8/15 and already think there is a fair chance not getting it.

Anyone applied the insurance where using the Becsaver post link up?

This is when I applied and so far not yet got any card. Guess anyone here received the card applied on 19/8/15

  • Signed up on 26/08/15, charged on 27/09/15. Waiting for gift card now.

    • +1

      Just received mine today.

  • Cancelled the card today. Operator tried to talk me out of it. Took about 5 minutes of persistence.

    • thanks for the reminder. Cancelled the policy just now.

Retentions Officer: "Does your cancelling have anything to do with the gift card? Did you receive the gift card?"

      "Gift card? I don't know, I got a couple of letters from westpac, I don't remember a gift card…"

      • Ha ha, they've probably had a flood of cancellations so far…
Heard NAB had a similar deal, haven't scored it yet.

  • Ok. OP, here is what I got today after contact them about this. Spoken with an operator and he follow it up with me to Marketing team. Emailed the promo about this as the link and image Brainseeway

    YOU ARE NOT ELIGIBLE

    Good Afternoon,

    Thank you for your email.

As confirmed with the marketing manager, the promotion for the $100 Mastercard Gift Card did finish on the 19th of August, therefore any applications submitted past this date were not eligible to receive the $100 gift card.

If you have any further queries, please do not hesitate to contact us on 1300 553 764.

    Kind Regards,

    Matt

How many of you joined on 25/8/15 onward and a victim of this? What should be a good next move? or just take this shit from dodgy Westpac, take the lost $12 and move on?

    Thanks

    • When you applied did you do it online when the 100$ gift card banner was still on?

      • Yes. Link is blatantly on. CLEAR and OBVIOUS. Exactly as Becsaver link. That applied after 19th of August.

  • Signed up 18/8, got the email asking me to call on 25/8, policy was underwritten on 28/8, first debit on 28/9, gift card received today in regional WA, gift card spent, will cancel tomorrow.

    • Super quick to cancel. About a minute on the phone confirming my details, then they asked why and I just said I decided to continue with the insurance provided by my superannuation rather than a seperate policy. Done. No mention of the gift card.
