redirects you to log on to the DoE portal page and says For school students, TAFE students and all staff. so I'm assuming any of these accounts would work. I've seen staff and student accounts gain access this way. There's no link yet in the DoE portal.

We have a separate subscription at UTS :)
I happen to know that UTS signed up for a subscription for the Lynda service, so what works for UTS might not work for other institutions. I attended a seminar on it a few months ago, the person who was driving its adoption at UTS was raving about Lynda, reckoned it was awesome.

I was thinking exactly the same. Maybe it has to be done from the organization's computers (DET etc.).

Okay someone tell me how is hacking your way past authentication to get access to a paid site 1. legal and 2. a bargain.
I know I'll be negged into oblivion but seriously, this is messed up. It's a bargain hunting site not a hacking site.
How is it hacking when obviously your organisation had made access to Lynda for free?
When I first read that it looked like he was giving anyone a way to get around it. If I'm wrong and it's just because I'm tired I apologize.

This was actually discussed on the DET internal Yammer a few weeks ago. It was in the testing phase and made available to all DET staff. They then restricted it to only K-6 teachers.
Are those who can get in using www.det.nsw.edu.au K-6 teacher?

Just worked for me.
Logged in and browsed to the "Myaccount" page and my membership type is listed as "Preview" with no Expiration date (blank)
Could just be a trial/beta for now, because there is a link on the account page to "Change plan" and it gives all the paid membership options.
Also for those at UNSW you can use url unsw.edu.au and your zPass to login.
