Hotel Deals in Bangkok - Jan 2016

Hey bargainers!

I'm currently on the lookout for cheap hotels in Bangkok. Or tried over the last week, but nothing spectacular has shown up. I'm looking for 3 jan to 6 jan, so happens that many hotels have block out periods on offers for those days.

Any ideas?

Ps. Does anyone have an iata number/discount coupon I can apply directly?

Thank you!

Hotel choices can be very subjective, and so when you say "cheap" , how cheap do you mean, and what is the lowest star rating that you would consider? For example - Would you consider an 8 bed per room hostel with shared bathroom? Also what location do you prefer?

    • Thx for the response peck! Yeah the missus will come along, so no backpackers. Something swish preferably. That being said even though I chose to stay at Pullman in Bali, I couldn't rate it very high - the ac across all the hotel rooms was pathetic. I think I'd prefer to stay in a newer place. Personal recommendations from ozbs would be nice.

Also, I have no idea of the geography of bkk. It is my first visit. I'll take any and all recommendations regarding hotel selection, location, things to do/see, things not to miss.

Ps. I have 3 days to spend in bkk. Would it be worthwhile to venture out to a smaller town for the beautiful beaches/scenery?

See my comments at https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/157688. Also rooftop bars there are spectacular. Google them. The pick is Vertigo at Banyan tree. (Just for a drink though as too expensive to eat) Also walk soi Cowboy and Nana Entertainment Plaza to get an eyefull. 3 days is not enough to go out of town. However if you wanted to do a long day trip, I would recommend going through a Thai travel agent for a guided day trip to the Bridge over the river Kwai. However you will be exhausted by the end of the day. Re Hotels, Close to restaurants foreign pubs etc but very good value (Good balance between what you pay and what you get) are Citadines Sukhumvit 8 Bangkok and the larger Citadines Sukhumvit 11 Bangkok. Rooms have cooking facilities, small lounge area, great staff. Both are 10 minutes walk to Nana Skytrain station and Sukhumvit road, but they have a free 24 hour tuktuk. I walk it most of the time though. If wanting the Tuktuk, then it is worth buying a 12call sim at 7/11 and you can ring the hotel from the corner of Sukhumvit road and ask them to send the Tuktuk. Sign up for member prices at http://www2.citadines.com/en/specials/index.html. You will pay $65 - $75. If you want 5 star at 3.5 star price, then an exceptionally nice place and perfect location is http://www.adelphisuites.com/en/ - probably can get $100 if you search hard. If you decide to stay in any of these 3, then let me know, and I will give a you a list of where to eat/drink nearby. Plenty of food places, and so I wouldn't include brekky unless free/nearly free at the hotel.

Your dates are smack in the middle of high season and you will be hard pressed, nee on impossible, to find any deals going on at the time.

As a first time visitor, it may be good idea to stay around Sukhumvit/Asoke or Silom area as there is a higher chance the locals will understand some english and those places are more orientated to westerners. For only 3 nights, not really worth going away from BKK if you've never been before as there is so much to see and do. I've come across this website in preperation for my Dec/Jan trip to Thailand which has been valuable for their reviews of new food places which I intend to try a couple bangkok.coconuts.co/ Best to do the research upfront before you get there and wouldn't pay much attention to hotel staff recommendations etc.

There is tons you could write about BKK about different places to go and see, the best advice is to not to be afraid to explore! I personally always enjoy going to Chatuchak Weekend Market for a look around when I'm in BKK on a Sat or Sun. The best tip is to find a hotel within walking distance to a BTS station which will be a cheap and fast way to get about.

I personally like to stay in rooms that have access to an executive lounge. One hotel I'm considering (never stayed before) is Radisson Blu Plaza Bangkok (close to one of the eats I want to try, but won't pay top rate though) or Park Plaza Bangkok Soi 18 (never stayed as well) as a cheaper option. There are a couple of others possibilities, just a matter of reading through the reviews of hotels within your price range once to decide locality.

    Hope that helps.

    • Thanks for the tips, appreciate the details! Very helpful :)
