Mega Movie Mania - Titles from $5 @ Big W [Eastland, VIC]

50

I was in Big W Eastland today and they had started displaying DVDs and Blu Rays for the Mega Movie Madness sale that will be happening soon (tomorrow?). I was able to pick up a few DVDs, including the infamous $5 Man of Steel Blu Ray + DVD + UV with Kids Cape from here - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/160846 (They had heaps!).

Each DVD/Blu Ray had a pink sticker on it with $5, $7 or $9. I don't remember seeing anything above $9, but I probably missed them. There was also 2 Disc Sets, Boxed Sets (Man of Steel), ect.

  • Can anyone verify if this is anywhere else?

    • It may be nationwide, as my store has taken a whole shelf of DVDs/Bluerays down.

      • Taken down? Shouldnt they be putting it up?

        • Taken down to put stickers on them? - well that's what I assume.

It must be nationwide, they started setting it up in my store on Sunday.

Stock will vary between stores, that Man of Steel pack has been $5 before and I'm pretty certain we sold them all then.

I was there close to closing time (about an hour). They were loading DVDs from the DVD section into a trolley, putting pink stickers on them and moving them a few rows down from the DVD section. I was wondering what they were doing and then found the "Mega Movie Mania" section :D

  • Why is there a children's cape in an M rated movie? I can use it for a bib I guess.

    • The Adults can watch the movie and the kid can dress up as Superman.

i dont understand why people are buying DVD's is in these ages of bluray nd 4K

    • What can you actually watch in 4k? Serious question.

    • Yeh not everyone has a 4k tv but i agree with the bluray bit.

    • If you new how many DVD we still sell in Australia, your jaw will drop

    • Go and buy Stargate Universe season 2 in Bluray or 4K. Seriously - tell me what prices you find for it, I'll wait.

I'll give you my reasoning for buying DVDs. First I have a Blu Ray player, actually two (a PS3) and have quite a few Blu Rays in my collection, but I cannot watch them on my computer. I don't have a tv in my room, but have a Wand Tv stick which I can put into the computer and watch as well as record tv. When I want to watch a movie and lay on my bed, I put a DVD in my computer. But also DVDs are cheaper (most of the time), plus I find with a HDMI cable with my blu ray player I can rarely tell the difference if I am watching a Blu Ray or a DVD. So in that case Id rather get a cheaper DVD, plus it plays on my computer. The end.

      • You need to get a bluray drive for your computer then you can watch bluray in your pc, there is big difference in quality, if you are using a really small old screen you wont notice mutch difference. But if you are using a big screen or a high resolution screen its makes big difference, the sound quality also different if using good speakers. Second option is buy bluray and rip it into a harddrive network storage and stream from there. hdmi cable wont give anything better than a component does in terms of dvd. I thought people investing in discs atleast spend some money on their screen and speakers, i was wrong

        • To be honest, I'm not bothered. If I was, I would have got one for sure. But there are more important things in life. I'd rather spend money on other things. A movie is a movie. I don't really care if it is HD. As long as I can see and hear it, it's all good. For reference my computer screen is 20 inch widescreen and TV is 26 inch lcd Samsung widescreen. I'm happy with the size of both. Not everyone, only people crazy enough to waste money on speakers that are a bit more sharper, ect. Like I said so much other stuff to spend money on. Plus technology is improving everyday. There is always something better, clearer, sharper, louder, ect.

  • IS there mnuch left at southland?
