  • Hmm wonder if they are doing helmets or women's gear like last year

  • +7

Pretty cheap gear… now need a Aldi motorcycle to go with it

    • Im waiting for the aldi car

  • +4

I bought the Kevlar jeans for $20 last year (post sale special) and it's bloody brilliant. I don't even have a bike but wear the jeans out. Great material and warm in winter.

I don't even have a bike but wear the jeans out.

      I Lol'ed, nice one

  • Is it safer to wear a ~$500 helmet that doesn't really fit, or an aldi one that does?

    • +8

obviously an Aldi one that does.
But why would u spend $500 on one that doesn't fit in the first place?

      • Pillion wearing one of my old ones. I think you're right.

    • +1

more expensive ones, ur paying for their tech/research; wind flow, pin-lock, carbon-fibre etc…
Actual impact results, well u'll have to check out an independent tester for those.
I would not think the safety increase is same as price.

I'm leaning more towards the expensive ones myself, but can't justify nor afford them.
So I bought one on special (end of production/line) $900 down to $300.

    • always go for the best fit helmet - a few manufacturers have a neutral type of fit while others have a more skewed fit for certain types of headshapes

      Aldi helmet?

I don't think anyone that has common sense would consider to wear an aldi helmet.

Your better off spending $200-300 on agv, shark, icon knowing you'll have much better protection.

Look on gumtree for a helmet can find some good ones cheap

      • +1

If the helmet goes through the same tests and meets/exceeds the standards, then the "much better protection" is debatable…

        • i still much prefer a brand that has a rep and has been around for a long time.

Than trust a cheap aldi helmet. My opinion obviously. No one needs to spend 1k a helmet, but $250+ seems very little when it will save you

      • +1

        i disagree (regarding gumtree).

You should never buy a second hand one as you dont know the history behind the helmet or whether it's been dropped.

Most important thing is buying a helmet that fits well and meets australian standards.

I recommend looking at government tested helmets - crash.org.au as i choose my Shark Vision R helmet based on the independent crash tests done by the Australian govt (crash.org.au) and also by the UK government (http://sharp.direct.gov.uk/)

Unfortunately the Aldi helmet isn't on either website so you can't tell how it stacks up against others.

        • +1

i didn't say secondhand helmet from gumtree.

There a people selling new ones on there to from time to time.

I personally would never buy secondhand also not just cause of the safety factor. I can imagine someone wearing a helmet that someones used for a year all there sweat…. yuk.

          Thats just me

  • Their bike gear appears to get better every year. Will be picking up some more this year.

  • +1

If its the same as last year's motorcycle gear, looks the same.
The jackets are pretty stiff and heavy compared to other leather jackets out there. Obviously cheaper but not as comfortable in the long run. Gloves are small fit compared to the sizing. I bought a pair to use as a spare. The kevlar jeans arent as good as others in the market, the kevlar coverage is less, I think if you shop around you can get some good Kevlar jeans on sale sometimes for around 120 bucks. The rain jacket they had last year was good value and useful if required, can also throw it in the back of the car if not using.

    • Finny if you don't mind me asking, what size are you normally and how was the fit for you?

I'm an S, but unsure whether the motorcycle gear sizes run true to size or are bigger? Slim fit preferred!

Also, are these only for men, or is there stuff for women too?

      • looks like men's gear only this year… shame as i wanted to get some for the missus.

      • Hi Montorola, sorry for late reply. I'm probably a small too. 30/31 inch waist. 5ft 9 The jeans were too big for me and leather jacket a bit bulky, the jacket did fit ok and was quite stiff. The jeans were just ok. I'd say it would take while to wear in to be fair tho. The gloves were a decent fit and the rain jacket was too.

What i did, was buy the items after trying on in aldi and brought them home and had second thoughts. I ended up leaving the jacket and jeans back.

For an extra 40 bucks I got a good fitting pair of Bullit Kevlar Jeans from MCAS on sale reduced from 200, in fact there is a sale on now for similar jeans. These jeans for 100 dollars are alot better than the aldi ones and fit ten times better. You'd still need to add armour if you want.

If you are on a budget and and only riding at the weekend, it may take a while to break in the Jacket but its a decent price, personally I left it back and ended up buying one from the uk but got a good deal. Try it on and gauge fit for yourself.

Also, I bought the motorcyle cover, it didnt last too long, it ripped at the elastic. Tho I had my bike outside on the street at times and it was open to heavy wind. I also bought the front disc lock that had an alarm and it is pretty good.

    • Do you think it's worth getting the leather jacket and pants?
Right now I have a dririder textile jacket (think it's a cheap one) and just some generic semi kevlar lined jeans.
Was thinking of upgrading for a little more safety/piece of mind.
I'm on a budget and only plan to use this gear on the occasional rides on the weekends .

I already have reasonable boots and helmet and have just ordered some pretty good gloves.

  • Lasso link doesn't work for me, or rather there is no Aldi catalogue in it. Can click through to Aldi by selecting it from Retailers drop down box on left hand side but only shows alcohol

  • Is there no reflective areas on the leather jacket any more ?

  • +3

shame they dont have any of the bike stands or ramps like last year!

  • Can you get tinted external visors for the helmet?
