What are Ozbargainers' thoughts on Bulk Nutrients (WPI, Matrix Mix) vs. ON Gold Standard (protein blend)?

Currently using ON, but Bulk Nutrients seems better value, however, unsure about its taste.

    • Was using ON rocky road, moved to Bulk nutrients. Their chocolate tastes weird, but the bananna and strawberry i find tastes pretty accurate (compared to milkshakes).

    • Yeah , i prefer Bulk Nutrients, like the taste.
Although has anyone tried the OxyWhey Range ? Currently using that (Strawberry) and it tastes just like a milkshake

    • Been using BN protein exclusively for the last two years as it's the best value. At the start, I didn't really like the taste of the choc, but the more you have it, the more you get used to the flavour and now I find it quite nice. Pity their pre-workout NO3X is getting discontinued though, it was amazing as well!

I don't see how this is a deal.
another store has it cheaper - $119 as listed this morning and noted above.
The $50 coupon for Ebay is already listed as a separate deal.

You could literally do thousands of "deals" like this

Here is 1 that took me just 1 go:

    International Protein 10LB

$137.90 here, and using above technique, $87.90 after code

    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/INTERNATIONAL-PROTEIN-SUPERIOR-WH…

Or a website here has it for $134.90

    http://www.aminoz.com.au/international-protein-superior-whey…

You could do this on and on

(yes, there is one on ebay for $129.95 but in strawberry only)

So is that $87.90 a deal then?
Can I do the same with every other item I find?

    • +2

Yes, and if it helps another member save a few bucks they otherwise wouldn't have, the power to you both.

It probably helps that "ON" is a pretty popular brand and something that a lot of people buy, so it is more likely to get up-votes than the examples you listed but who knows.

I couldn't think of something to buy that I would use anyway that I could get via the Ebay $50 deal so I was going to give it a miss, so this post helped me out.

      Viva la Ozbargain.

      • +1

I would of missed this potential deal had you not of posted so thanks OP.

That being said I got this on a deal a while back and I'm not the biggest fan of it, much more prefer Horleys ICE so now you brang to my attention the potential for a deal on protein I will try find the protein I prefer and hopefully make a deal out of it :)

  • just confirming, this special for the 50 dollars ebay voucher is only for sydney, melbourne and tasmania right?

    • +1

im in QLD and its not giving me the option of click&collect even though the item is in QLD

      • +1

I think only the Woolies and Big W stores in the states mentioned above so far are participating in eBay's 'click and collect' initiative. Hopefully the other states would eventually jump on board.

        • Bugger i could really do with a 50 dollars ebay voucher :(

        • -1

          @PreSsieGuY: who the **** couldn't?

$154.70 for 10lbs but out of stock on chocolate:

  • Thanks OP! Bought it on the spot.

  • should state that this is only for syd melb and tas?

  • -6

    Negging, hear me out.

I really doubt you're going to get much, if anything for paying for this "premium" protein.

Sure, it's got added Glutamine and BCAA's. Both of these you're better buying bulk and adding it to your cheaper protein. Everyones body has different requirements, what works for one won't work for the other. This is why I don't see the point in buying fancy proteins with added supplements, everyone's body responds differently.

It's like Beats headphones. Got a terrible reputation here on OzBargain. You're paying for a brand. That's my opinion with your fancy proteins.

Train hard, Eat well, sleep well. Get some good protein in your diet and carbs, just don't expect your "premium" protein powder to make much of a difference.

From having a quick browse on ebay I found 8.4lbs of protein for $80 - http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/MAXS-SUPERSIZE-4KG-CHOC-SUPER-SIZ…

EDIT: didn't see the $50 ebay voucher promotion. Wouldn't you just buy 15lbs of the stuff for $20 less at $109? - http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/7KG-VANILLA-MASS-GAINER-WHEY-PROT…

    • Damn if only it was $100 for a bit more protein.

    • +5

what you linking to is a Mass Gainer made from a Mixture of Protein and High Carbs

      • -4

Oops. Here's one with similar amounts of protein, 1kg extra for $10 less. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/5kg-VANILLA-LEAN-Whey-Protein-Pow…

You could find some much cheaper, but i couldn't be bothered.

        • +5

          @bxpressiv:

Haha, suit yourself. I'm just trying to save us some money here. If you want to spend more money and probably not make any more actual gains, you're more than welcome too. Just my opinion

        • +1

          @xDEFiNE:

Suited. I have ON Gold, Venom and BN rotating daily to bounce between functional and budget conscious to premium and highly enjoyable. Try it and you'll see what we're talking about, extreme choc is a treat.

        • -2

          @bxpressiv:

I may well do, i'm on a pretty tight budget though. I shouldn't even be spending it on the cheaper protein powders, better off buying an extra few cartons of eggs haha.

That being said, I honestly think you can go down to Coles and spend $5 on a tub of hot chocolate flavouring (or something similar) and mix it in. It'll probably taste just about as good. I was drinking casein powder from sports supplements direct, $70 for 4kg's. Coach told me the flavour tasted like shit with casein powder, but it tasted perfectly fine imho. Your choice really. I just don't have the money to waste on the fancy powders.

        • +3

ops. Here's one with similar amounts of protein, 1kg extra for $10 less.

No click & Collect with that link you provided , therefore no $50 voucher

        • @easternculture:

Man, i've gotta do all the work for you guys don't I

          Here we go, 5kg's at $125 http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/5KG-WPC-WHEY-PROTEIN-CONCENTRATE-…

          Choc 5kg's $130 http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/5KG-WPC-WHEY-PROTEIN-CONCENTRATE-…

(i'd personally buy this last one and add my own chocolate powder,)

          6kg's at $120

          http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/6KG-WPC-WHEY-PROTEIN-CONCENTRATE-…

        • +2
        • @bxpressiv:

Haha m88, the shops all over me.

That looks good. I'm in QLD so the $50 off voucher doesn't apply to me.

I don't drink protein powders anymore, however. 6 eggs in the morning, maybe some oats. Lots of chicken, meat and veges for lunch and dins. They're too expensive, man. I need more fuel, not protein powders.

    • +5

      Found the gainz goblin!

You're not stealing my gainz from me.

      Shoo shoo gainz goblin!

Edit: I agree that there's better value for money with other brands out there but I believe people, me included, eventually return to buying Gold Standard simply due to the taste. I actually enjoy the flavours and the smell compared to other brands. Is it worth shelling out the extra $20-$30 for this? Maybe not. Should you buy this if you're on a limited budget? Nope. Better value out there. But should you buy it if you want to enjoy the taste and smell of it and not make it seem like a chore to finish it off? Yes.

      • -3

Brah, i'm all for the gainz. What i'm not for, is wasting money thinking you're going to be making more gains, because that chances are you're not.

I was drinking the micellar casein from sports supplements direct, $70 for 4kg's i believe. Tasted good. Casein, i know. But i've linked some other similar whey's and they're much cheaper.

Also let me add with flavour, instead of wasting an extra $20-30 on a premium brand, go and buy a tub of hot chocolate powder (or something similar) for $5, and mix it in. I promise you it'll taste just as good, and you can save your money for something better.

    • +2

You can't really compare a mass gainer to a normal protein powder. Serving sizes are MUCH larger with the gainers, and they have nearly a 2:1 carb to protein ratio.

    • +2

You cannot compare a Mass gainer to this, seriously?

The Max's product you linked to has 28g per 100g of protein vs ON: 78.9g per 100g of protein

      • Just the first link I found, my bad. Check my more recent comment, i've linked to a similar protein powder.

    • +1

From an (additives) ingredients perspective I agree with you, it's probably worse than Venom/BN because of the extra ingredients, but from a taste perspective you've got no idea. What you've linked isn't really a comparative product either…

  • +1

would be good if the C&C applies to QLD :(

  • +1
  • I wonder what the expiry date would be, as that's plenty to get through…

  • -1

go back to the old days and just eat food instead of drinking this crap…

saves you money too, a real bargain. unlike this shite.

  • So where do u see the click and collect option. I dont see it anywhere even when i commit to buy the item. And im in nsw

    • Try main link now if your after the 8Lb version

  • -1

There are like, no whey jokes in this thread. Disappoint.

  • I currently use this protein, I don't particularly find it high quality - perhaps the International Brand is better. Anyone have any thoughts?

  • Looks like these are all gone, no stock via any of the links.

    • +1

ill talk to them see if they can add more

  • I actually wasnt expecting the deal to be so popular and the protein to sell out in less than 24 hrs.

All good now since its Back in Stock .

    • +1

      No whey? Yes whey!

  • Is there a bag like this that I can C&C and get the (eBay voucher) in SA? Would love to pick one up!

  • I couldn't see the click and collect for 10lb either. Committed to the buy and all and that was a pain to cancel. :s

Am I missing something really obvious?

  • Hey guys, thanks for posting this deal. Was about to order, and then remembered to check for artificial sweeteners (which I kinda hate), and this powder contains two of them :( Does anyone know of a good deal on a powder with no artificial sweeteners? Thanks

  • Still waiting on the $50 eBay voucher to come through. Anyone get theirs yet?

    • Nothing yet… Still waiting…

      • yep, i'm still waiting

        • Mine just came through
