Are there any direct flights from

    LAX -> ETIVE ???

  • So from MELB - NYC it is $890 return? Lowest I could get on the site is $1000, do I have to ring up?

So from MELB - NYC it is $890 return?

      Nope, 'from' $890 return

    • that is absolutely no detail whatsoever in this deal to know if it is worth it or not. I don't know about others but in my view it is just like the posters that travel agents have in their windows saying they offer fantastic prices without any specific info. I won't spend my time going to a store if I don't have a clue on actual available travel dates.

      • +2

There was probably only one seat at that price.

Sorry all, American Airlines just pulled the flight deal :( But if you are interested in flying to LA, we do have a $999 deal. http://www.statravel.com.au/cheap-flights.htm

      bait and switch ???

    • STA, were your advertised prices actually available? Can't find any evidence of it.

    • -4

I think Baiting is against the law these days. ACCC is HOT on this ATM. Lawyer Up bitc#hes!

    • -3

You give me cheaper price 5 minutes now or I call po lease!

    worst travel deal ever

    • +1

Agreed! Although technically it's a pretty great deal, but an unattainable one at that!

  • Can't get these prices to show up for me, even with following the correct dates etc. Also the website seems so slow and laggy and is really frustrating to use.

I know it says 'Call ___ to book now' - but I would rather view flights/fares on the site and toggle around dates etc to get the right flights for me.

    edit: nevermind, expired

Hate these 'just call us' deals with travel agents. Get yourselves a decent web site and put the fares out there or FIND ANOTHER OCCUPATION!~!!

    • -1

Its called baiting.. they put up an amazing deal.. get ppl interested. then advise that the 'scarce' fairs are sold out BUT they have others for 'just' 20% more for you dates. Its rife in travel industry. ACCC are cracking down on it.. hopefully a full 250k fines might stop it or dent these guys enough to stop them doing it.

This has happened before too, when they advertised a deal for Amsterdam and asked to call them. In fact, I went ahead and even made a payment, only to have them call me back and say that the prices had been increased and I would have to an additional 400 per person or cancel them. When I cancelled them, it took me 4 long phone calls and 15 days later to see my money.
    Really dishonest!

Let wait for ACCC to file action against them. STA im sure are on the radar amongst others. This is just another classic case of it.

    bait and switch

Bait and switch!! ACCC reports and so on!!

What BS some go on about.

What a lot of self righteous people we have here.

It was an error in pricing, so they removed it.

At least we got aheads up for those who were quick enough it's that same as this deal, but to LAX rather than on to Denver. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/204695

Plus here as well to Vancouver https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/204712?utm_source=subscrip…

    All by different people

    Sue em all?

Thanks to STA that gave us a heads up that some may have been quick enough to take advantage of.

How is this bait and switch? The sale was pulled by AA, STA have no control over it

For amateur lawyers everything is bait and switch - shoot first laugh later ✈️

    • +1

exactly lol, sta just caught on late and posted this up right before it was pulled.

    • This is how. The link for this deal posted by an associate of STA Travel (likely an employee) goes not to a site you can browse for fares but a 'call me for the deal' banner. And they're serial offenders on this manoeuvre, nothing to do with today's deal! Why do you think they do that? 'Come into my parlor said the spider to the fly' .. :-( .. !!

      • +2

Fair point about the ring up, but given the two other posts about this same error here at Ozbargain, and Australian Frequent Flyer it was a offering that could be taken advantage of albeit much quicker than the Qantas error posteda few weeks back

If people chose STA they have to call, if not they could have gone online to aa.com or other sites to book and the prices were up for a few hours.

To jump up and down and scream bait/switch and ACCC is a waste of time.

This reminds me of the crazy cheap fares which Qantas 'accidently' released to the united states for like 300 return haha. The key with the sale fares is where it says 'from' and then to press / go through a faux booking before payment stage - so you can see the real cost and see if the fares are actually attainable to buy.

  • -3

poor post. STA are being dodgey

    • How?

      • -3

read the above posts. bait and switch. and the bad experiences of Daisy above

        • How? AA pulled the price, from what I can see it wasn't an advertised sale so clearly just a price error that was pulled as soon as noticed. STA just posted the prices thinking it was a sale then stopped when it was over. Daisy's issue sounds similar but can't comment on it.
