Cheapest and the best RoadSide Assistance cover

I was wondering if any can recommend the place for road side assistance in Sydney. We are with AAMI for comprehensive car insurance but they do not seem to have additional roadside assistance option.
We found NRMA for around $150 - $170 for their premium cover for 1 year. However, I couldn't come across any other competitor.
I found 247roadservices.com.au which offer for $55. However, they dont seem reliable. I still want someone to come for help in case of an issue.

help would be really appreciated.

  • I heard that Ultra Tune started offering roadside assistance, however they might not be much better or cheaper than NRMA.

I'm pretty sure NRMA (and the other state-specific motoring associations) initially started as a non-profit association that almost everyone subsribed to, which probably explains the lack of competition almost right across Australia.

  • Budget Direct have a roadside assist option for about $1 a week extra.

  • UTRATUnE looks pretty good for $59. I wonder how reliable they are.

    • I've used the roadside assistance with UltraTune before, you get normally get it free after a service with them.

I had an issue where by clutch line (hydraulic clutch) perished whilst I was driving, my car had to be towed to the UltraTune service centre of my choice. Service was good, and I didn't have to pay for the towing.

  • found this guys which seem to be a better alternative to nrma:
    http://www.mondial-roadside.com.au/
For $99 you get premium care for the whole year.

  • to be honest, i would only go with the big guys for this sort of service.

  • why not?

  • Hi Everyone, there is a new company launching in March 2013 for the best roadside assist in Melbourne. Better in cost to the customer and better reliability, also the most experienced in the industry. Be patient since it's just around the corner :)

    • only Melbourne? or all of Vic/Aust?

I can't imagine Melb only would be of much use.
But how can a new company be "the most experienced in the industry" I'd imagine RACV would have claim to that title in Victoria.

      • Thanks for your input Supabrudda, there is a real need for a better service in Melbourne, yes we are the most experienced because we have worked for the big mobs for over 20 years, and we know where they lack service for the people. We have also listened and taken into account feedback from the giants and come up with a personalised service to do whatever it takes for the individual….. that's what counts. Starting in Melbourne?… well that's a good start because we live here…..demand will delegate where we go next in Australia.

  • If your car insurance is due, shop around as many through it in for the first year.
We swap insurers every year & we ditched our RACV (pretty crappy anyway) for Virgin, then Coles, now Woolies. they all offer road side assist. I haven't tested them out to see how reliable they were, but there can't be too many road side assist companies about.

  • +1

    I saw this:
    http://www.allianz.com.au/roadside-assistance
For new Allianz comprehensive car insurance customers in their first year, OR for new customers who would like to buy Roadside Assistance directly, please call:
    1800 010 536

  • If you only need it for in Sydney then some of the smaller providers might be ok for you. But in my experience if you intend to do any remote driving at all, RAC/NRMA* has the best Aus wide network.
A tow truck driver recomended RACV to me for real remote stuff- apparently their towing policies cover you for a lot more Kms than other state's RAC policies.

    *edit

  • How do non-NRMA roadside assistance work?
I've never seen a non-NRMA roadside assistance car.

    • Hi there Whatsinthebox, let me see how many there is, Alliance, Ultra Tune, RACV/ RACT NRMA all under the same banner, and thats just the beginning…. Cheers.

AS OF 2013 JULY 9 I HAVE EXPERIENCE FROM RACV SERVICE

1 TERRIBLE CUSTOMER ASSISTANCE PHONE NUMBER
IT TOOK ME ALMOST AN HOUR TO GET THROUGH
I DIAL AND DIAL AND DIAL………………EVERY DIAL TAKES TO WAIT ME FOR ABOUT 15 TO 20 MINUTES

    1. IT TOOK AGES TO ARRIVE THE ASSISTANCE, IMAGINE 2 HOURS AND I HAVE 2 KIDS ON BOARD AND THEY STARVING BECAUSE AROUND 12-1PM
WHEN HAVING trouble WITH THE CAR. THE ASSISTANCE CAME AROUND 3:45 PM

    TERRIBLE AND ANGRY

    BLOODY HOPELESS

SO DONT GO TO POOR AND TERRIBLE SERVICE OF RACV

1 MORE THING, THE SERVICE MAN, WHEN HE IS ARRIVE I SAID TO AND ASK WHY I TOOK AGES TO WAIT FOR ABOUT 2 HOURS?

AND HE REPLIED "if you are going to complaint i'll be leaving" see How they treat their member

    Mod: Foul Language
