Bought it for $25 last week and thought it was a good price. Excellent for a $10 labeller. Only issue is the unit isn't entirely portable, needing to be plugged into a PC to create and print labels.

      • +26

a PC is a Personal Computer and can be running any O/S such as Windows, OSX or Unix (though there might not be software support on all O/S listed).

just like a mobile phone is first and foremost JUST A PHONE, it only matters to the end user whether it's running android, iOS, Windows or no O/S at all (like some Samsungs and Nokia mobiles) as to whether it has the software support for the apps they want to us (and whether they want their hands held all the while while using those apps, or whether they can learn about using the software on the phone themselves).

        • -4

          cool story bro

        • nice..
but on the mobile with no OS… would hardly be usable and with samsungs/nokias have OS, its just that they are designed for specific purpose.. basic phone functions

    • Well it is worth stocking up for more just for the label tapes alone. If you still have your receipt buy a new one and then return the one you purchased last week for $25.

I already own the Dymo LabelManager 500TS so I was only interested in the label tapes. The printer was just a bonus/spare for me.

      • +1

Happy to buy a few extra units, one for extra tapes and 2 for xmas presents.

        • Xmas?

I suppose you could look at it as an investment. Whoever you buy this for is not going to want a present from you again. Think of the $$$ saved.

        • +1

          @justtoreply:
          …I wouldn't mind one for xmas :(

  • +8

    $36.63 for cartridges !!!

Might as well Broden all the printers in the store since they come with 2 cartridges …

  • +1

I find that the D1 tapes are better than the LetraTag series as they are 7 metres compared to only 4 metres.

    • +2

      What a ridiculous statement.
Why does that make them better ?

Anyway, The LetraTag labels have been $7.50 at Woolies for the last few weeks… So much better value than $36 for the D1

      • +2

I found them for $5 at Big W. But they looked liked they were dead stock from the 90s

      • Better value, better length, better (in)frequency of replacement.

  • I have the Brother version of one of these things and it's great, you can print logos and all on it.

    • +4

Does the Brother version print barcodes?

I can't be bothered carrying around a FlyBuys and Woolies Everyday Rewards card so I just copy Woolies barcode onto a label and stick it on the front of my FlyBuys card.

      • You used this Dymo to create the barcode? Involves scanning it, or…?

        • +3

The Dymo 500TS can generate a barcode using the unit. I am not sure with this printer can do the same but being a Dymo I assume the software should support the same features.

If not just use a site like this
          http://www.free-barcode-generator.net/ean-13/

Enter your Flybuys / Woolworths Everyday Reward card barcode number and then insert that generated barcode into the label program as a clipart image.

        • You can make barcodes with the software that goes with it.

      • +16

I use an App call Stocard, to store all my cards on. I do most of my shopping at Aldi, so I don't know if Flybuys is compatible, but I have used somebody elses Woolworths card & it scans okay (when I buy Pepsi Max).
Some scanners don't scan, but the operator can enter it in manually.

        • Never tried that.

        • +2

@Mr Rort: There are a few other apps like fidme

Some places may only accept a physical card, but that can depend on the operator behind the counter.

        • +1

Never had a problem with Woolworths and I have been doing it for years. Some jump in and say we don't accept Fly Buys (so I need to explain it to them). Once I do they think it is quite a good idea.

        • @Mr Rort: Officeworks won't accept it as it's a Store Purchase account card, which is fair enough.
I had a young girl at Video Ezy knock it back, even though I had a password. I had to show my license.
I also have a SCA trade card (10% off). This is the reason I started using Stocard as the sticker with the number came off. A few months some new staff member wouldn't accept it. I had the card in my wallet still, with the number written on there, & that was okay.

        • +1

I had trouble with the Coles self-checkout machines scanning Flybuys stored in Stocard on a Note 4 handset :(

        • +7

@bdl: You should use Beep n Go instead. Stocard simply stores it as an image, so laser-based scanners cannot read it.

Beep n Go uses the Note 4's proximity sensor to fool the laser scanner into reading a barcode. A barcode image is also displayed for CCD/CMOS-based scanners. It also works with the Note 3 and S4-S6.

          https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mobeam.bee…

        • @eug: Thanks @eug - I used to use this on my S4 and couldn't remember the name! I thought it used the IR beamer thingo on the top of the unit?

(I just printed out two barcodes with my P-Touch as a backup too)

        • @bdl: It uses the proximity sensor. I guess using an emitter on the front is less confusing to users to have the emitter on the same side as the screen, so the code will be read in one go without having to know what kind of reader the store is using.

You can check it by pointing another phone's camera towards the front of the first phone while beep-and-go'ing a card.

        • +2

If you are with Commonwealth bank, the CommBankApp can als ostore your loyalty cards too. But I still use Stocard.

        • @eug: Thank you. I'll give it a try. It looks familiar.

      • +2

can't be bothered carrying around a FlyBuys and Woolies Everyday Rewards card so I just copy Woolies barcode onto a label and stick it on the front of my FlyBuys card.

I photographed mine and carry it with me on my mobile phone. Scans fine, every time.

        • +2

I scanned my woolies and flybuys bar codes, printed them onto standard A4 paper, cut them and taped them to the back of my eftpos card. They've stayed stuck for a few years now with no problems. I just have to wave my card before paying with the same card.

      • I thought it did but not sure. It's a 2012 model Brother PT2730

        • Just printed two barcodes with this same model printer this morning :) the Everyday Rewards and Flybuys barcodes are EAN13 coded

  • +1

might check my local for one, dont need it but want it

    • +1

You wouldn't be on this site if you wasn't a bargain hoarder. It is not a useless purchase - you will always find something to label.

At this price and the popularity of this site I doubt they will be in stock for long.

      • +4

you will always find something to label.

recall the old TV advert where the gent is at his psychiatrist saying he has a problem labeling everything (including the cat) and then you see the psychiatrist covered in labels and he says "what problem?" - I had a search on Youtube, but sadly couldn't find it.

  • +2

    Thanks :)

None in stock in SA. Just called the Prospect store and even though it says online there is stock, the nice sales guy looked high and low for me and there was none. So please no longer bother them. Just a friendly PSA.

  • I wish this printed multi-line, any suggestions?

    • +3

do like we do at work.. print two labels and stick them one under the other.

      • +2

        …at double the cost

    • +2

Yep, the Dymo LabelManager PnP prints multi-line. I just bought the last one of these at Mosman OW. In fact I just tried printing FIVE lines and they are all quite legible. The software allows you to enter six lines but it isn't readable when printed. It's possible another font would allow six lines to be printed legibly.

I don't know the actual pixel resolution of the printer, I could investigate more but too tired right now. I assume if you could make a 1:1 pixel image which exactly matches the printer's resolution, you could reliably make as many legible lines as you like, depending on the font.

It also prints images. 1-bit images only, so anything with more than 1 colour prints as a dithered black and white pattern.

I'm very happy with this, thanks @Mr Rort!

EDIT: Most upper-case letters in Arial font are legible when printing six lines. It's possible another font would be even easier to read.

About a dozen left at QV Melbourne cbd. They're in a bargain box near the normal priced label makers.

    • +1

Just came back from QV … couldn't find one. May drop back in and go thru all boxes

    • none left - had a quick look and the bargain box was empty with a basket in there. so looks like someone with basket planned to clear it out, but it was already cleared out

    • +10

Asked a worker; "11 on hold" for some ahole who phoned up.
They should really put a quantity limit on phone holds.

      • +2

Just rock up to the store, tell them your name is Broden, and out you go with 11 labellers.

  • Fantastic deal and seems like quite a few in stores…. will definitely go pick up one or 2 (just for extra labels) if I can get to an office works in time :)

    • +1

Try calling them. They might be able to put some on hold for you.

      • will have to do that as I probably won't be able to get to a store until tonight… hopefully they can put 2 away for me but even 1 I'll be happy :)

  • +7

Aww there’s only one beer left and it’s Bart’s

  • +1

Six left at Werribee after I bought two.

  • +2

Someone just ozbargained the whole sydney cbd stocks across all three OW stores. Lol very considerate of fellow ozbargainers against our compulsive shopping tendency.

    • +1

We seem to be very Darwinian when it comes to bargains.

  • +1

Looks like Brogan is shopping at Woolloongabba these days. All 6 of the store's stock of labellers was reserved.

    • +1

      Broden?

      • +1

        Ah yes, whoops :)

    • Looks like Brogan is shopping at Woolloongabba these days. All 6 of the store's stock of labellers was reserved.

Same with the rest of Brisbane. The problem is the store shows stock until Broden picks them up.

      • +3

Leave a comment on Officeworks Twitter account asking them would they consider setting limits on the quantity one can put on hold.

Explain how you were after this particular item and were unable to get one because of this sort of predatory behaviour from a particular individual/s whom effectively 'reserved/held' all available store stock to collect at their leisure.

If you get a response from Officeworks please share it with the rest of us.

Just called Glebe (NSW) someone went in and bought the last 4 …

  • I want to go buy one, but I have to wait for packages to come :( ozbargain problems

  • None at Nth Ryde/West Ryde. Just picked one up in Nth Sydney and they still had one more in stock. If you call up they'll put it on hold. Cartridges are $7 on ebay

    • -1

      get it on ebay…far cheaper.

    • +4

      or $10, for this deal

      • +1

        I'm talking about cartridges

      • I take it back, yeah fair call. I feel a little blonde now for not grabbing the 2 in stock. Oh well, hopefully another Ozber got it.

  • Thanks OP - 4 left in Preston, VIC.

    • +1

All gone. I didnt see anyone left on the shelf.

      • +6

Why were people sitting on the shelf? :)

  • +2

    No Stock at Keswick SA

  • +4

I bought one of these at the $25 price and used it to label every cable I have by sticking it back on to itself (as recommended by another ozbargainer) Every single one came off. These have very little adhesive. Unless the supplied rolls are VERY old? I wouldn't recommend it for anything that is important.

    • +1

Much better idea than mine! I just did the same with clear tape and permanent marker

      • +2

White electrical tape and an extra-fine sharpie works really well for me. The ink won't rub off, and the tape sticks to itself really well.

        • If all else fails…

        • @bigpallooka: Flag labels look a lot neater and more professional though. :)

        • Thanks for the suggestion. I've got some somewhere, so will definitely give that a go. Just another confirmation that hoarding pays off eventually!

    • I always use sticky tape over any label. This is every OCD's wet dream.

      • I have the will to be OCD and the patience to… ahh frack it…

    • +2

I bought one of these at the $25 price and used it to label every cable I have by sticking it back on to itself

If you want to create a flag label, you need to use the flexible nylon tape.
      http://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/p/dymo-indust…
      (better double-check compatibility)

The standard polyester ones will want to uncurl themselves.

      • That looks the go. Thanks for the link. I'll look into it. I have soooo many computers, peripherals and consoles (between my son and I) that you can never be 100% sure what you are unplugging.

        • +1

I just tested it with the flexible tape from my Rhino labeller (18488 - the model above). It fits and works fine.

        • @eug: On my shopping list. Thanks

    • Can confirm the stickiness is crap.

  • +2

Hey! Who just went into the Keysborough store and grabbed all the remainder??!!

  • Four left at OW Windsor.

  • +1

Handy for printing 'Kick Me', and sticking on colleagues
