GOG.com - Free Tex Murphy 1+2 classic PC game (worth US$5.99) - Offer valid till 24/12/09

90

If you like games from the past, the Good of Games site (GOG.com) is currently offering "Tex Murphy 1+2" bundle for free until 24th Dec 2009 (U.S. time). If you are not a member yet, you will need to sign up for free to be able to download the games.

Their offer promo blurb:
"…We're beginning the holiday season with a big bang! We've joined forces with WordPlay LLC to offer a free game – or rather make that two free games – to all registered GOG.com users. For a very limited time, until December 24, the first two adventures of the most popular private investigator in PC gaming history – Tex Murphy – will be available for the low, low price of absolutely nothing…"

All the games on their site are compatible with Windows XP and Vista, and are DRM free (ie. you can re-download and install the game as many times and on as many PCs as you like).

The games are available as digital downloads only (ie. not shipped in retail boxes - hence no shipping cost applicable, just your internet download bandwidth).

Even if you're not a fan of this game, there are a few other freebies on their site that you can check out. Most of the non-freebie games are either US$5.99 or US$9.99, so are quite a good deal as well.

  • These two games featured a lot of video and were ~4CDs and ~7CDs each! Hence they could be very large downloads!

EDIT: Oh crap, these are the earlier games that are MUCH smaller (27MB). Ignore the above.

    • Yep the newer Tex Murphy games were cd based that had lots of motion video.

      • Under a Killing Moon (1994)
      • The Pandora Directive (1996)
      • Tex Murphy: Overseer (1998)

These two original games Mean Street and Martian Memorandum (which was my favourite) when I played it through on initial relased as DOS based games.

I assume they have been updated to work fine in the windows environment. Unless you need to run them through a DOS emulator, like alot of old games being offerd for free these days.

  • Wow, I remember these… it's pretty nostalgic. :)
