Buying New PC with Credit Card

Hi guys,

I've a Citibank Platinum CC and is in the market to purchase a new PC.
I've already settled with a retailer but they are currently charging a 2% surcharge.
As I've also chosen delivery from them, they are offering a "purchase protection" option for an extra $50 on top of my shipping in case anything happens to the machine in transit.

My question is, should I forgo the use of the CC (which I believe comes with added warranty and purchase cover - although purchase cover doesn't seem to cover loss of delivery which the purchase protection will), save the 2% (which amounts to around $50 by the way) and just pay with cash?

To answer your question, I'm going to repost your question.

should I forgo the use of the CC (which I believe comes with added warranty and purchase cover - although purchase cover doesn't seem to cover loss of delivery which the purchase protection will), save the 2% ($50) and just pay with cash?

    So what would you prefer?
Additional warranty, purchase cover and Citibank Rewards points or $50?

    • Thanks QW3RTY. Yeah the warranty was the main thing when I considered the surcharge, points are rather negligible given the return on the platinum.
I suppose I was more concerned if I needed to buy the purchase protection if I was already paying with the CC; lndy44 seems to have answered that below.

Purchase protection is a scam. It's the retailer's responsibility to ensure it arrives to your door. If something happens they will have to cover the cost not you. You would be entitled to a refund if they can't send a replacement.

Also, i believe there is a $50-100 excess on purchase cover.

  • if you buy by CC, you are covered by their policy in regards to non-receipt

i find the best way to pay for online stuff is paypal - and link that to your CC - great coverage for pretty much everything
