no reviews and nothing found on dashcamtalk. I would be wary.

I just use an old android phone that is hidden in a small box in the car. Any loud noise or movement and it records to SD.
Connected to my wifi at home so I can upload videos or use it as a webcam to see whats happening.

Simple n cheap n in the Ozbargain spirit

Hi jd4free, I am curious on how you do it. Care to share a bit more detail of your tips?

      • +2

That sounds like a brilliant set up. I too would be keen to know how you did it / apps used / scripts / etc :)

      • Interested to know too.

  • Anyone know what chip is in this, I know of some in the same body alot cheaper…

    • I have no doubt you could get the same thing on ebay for $40

  • This is a good unit, i have one.

    Here is a review

    http://behindthewheel.com.au/gator-full-hd-dvr-1080p-car-cam…

    • Comments below on that link are not positive…it looks identical to the GS8000.

      • I see
For $80 with local warranty and C-TICK approved, i won't complain too much. What most people don't realise is that C-TICK approve is so important. Anyway, that's just my thought.

  • Im happy with my Xiaomi Yi which costed me less than $130 including 32gb class 10 memory card + car holder and charger :)

Is your Xiaomi Yi C-Tick approved? Pass Australian standard requirements in term of the amount of emission that the unit generate?

      • +4

I dont care about the C-Tick and the emission that Xiaomi Yi generate.

        • Fair enough!

    • How is the card holder and charger looks like? Any reference?

      Cheers,

  • Ordered one. Thanks OP :)

  • Anyone knows which max capacity MicroSD card this device supports?

To OhWellThen: Just to elaborate I have an old phone with a decent 8MP camera and install sound motion detection software OR if you prefer the phone mounted on windscreen you can use GPS/Dash cam software like Dashboard, Autoguard or Camsam etc. So many to choose from. Settings set to get the best video quality day and night.
I actually used 4 small very small spots of silicon to glue the phone to the very top of my windscreen behind the black stuff on the windscreen, line up the camera to fit on a hole in the black stuff if that makes any sense.
The other reasons I put it up high is:
    U get a better picture
I also use it as a GPS
It can't be seen easily in car parks
It doesn't get too hot in Summer

The phones are on all the time so I can catch anyone doing damage to the car.. to all the scrapers out there I will find you one day !
Wifi is always on too so I can connect to them and check / Delete old Vids.
The other phone/camera is a webcam to monitor whats happening around the car, lots of options of software here to use too.
Yes I live in Blacktown, always lots of idiots.

    • Wow. As Owl said, that is a brilliant setup. Solves a few positioning and heat issues. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.

Oh and for owl sorry didn't see you there

  • Must be pretty good if it was priced at $250 as that's about the area where you will apparently find good quality dash cams, or this is a rip off for this kind of dash cam(not sure which)…. Might consider getting this. :)

    • Was prices are always a rip off.
