Buyer received product and refund

Hi Everyone

Somebody bought $380 stuff on my website and we dispatched with express post (tracking number)

I initially used click and send and there was some problem so I went to Post Office and paid for express post again.

Click and Send updated tracking number with PayPal and buyer claimed that he didn't receive the product and opened a case which he won and got refund.

When I checked actual tracking number, it is coming as product received (PO Box address).

Now PayPal won't let me open the case as it is already finalised. Biggest mistake is I should have opted for registered delivery. What are my options.

Thanks

Do not use PayPal, they are the biggest bunch of scumbags on the face of the earth.
I mean, they're great if you're the buyer. Shitcakes if your the seller, as you've found out it is really easy to lose your stuff and money.

    • We have opted PayPal for 2 reasons

      1. Easy setup and no monthly fixed fee

      2. Buyers prefer PayPal

Can I complain anywhere and get my money or product back (tracking number is Proof of Delivery)

      • Well, now you know of two reasons to not use PayPal.

        Call them?

        • Buyer is not answering or replying to my emails. I tried writing email so that somehow he would say that he received the item and don't want to pay for it.

  • Have you called PayPal?

    • Yeah. They can't do anything now. They said, I should have posted it via click and send only.

  • Do I have a chance to raise this with authority like ACCC or take it to police or court??

    • Probably not, welcome to the world of PayPal for sellers.

      Enjoy your stay.

There are countless websites on how PayPal screws over sellers. They don't care about you, they're not a bank nor a financial institution. They only care about the themselves and the buyer, and they're very happy to bend you over backwards and steal from you.

      • I guess, you are right. I have lost that sale.

        • Think of it as a $760 lesson, first of many.

Try contacting the financial ombudsman, but be clear where the problem is. Your beef is with Paypal (financial service) and their theft of your money to assist the buyer (with their twisted logic), not the actual buyer.

    • I asked buyer to pay me or send stuff back and he didn't reply to my single email after tracking number is coming up with delivered status.

PayPal has done wrong but buyer should have given me money if products are received.

      • Well you can do it two ways: you either address the issue to the buyer which will most likely be a small claims court (costs really worth $180?) or you address it to Paypal with the financial ombudsman as a financial services issue.

What would the likelihood of someone who's scammed you likely to respond or even given you credible personal details?

        • Thanks for all replies.

I typed $180 by mistake. It is $380 actually. I am thinking to try police station first as I have no proof other than tracking number and this reason might not be helpful to win the case.

        • @CraftVault:

EDIT: Let's just say you're screwed.

        • @rochow: Lost money as well as product.

@CraftVault: Yep. By avoiding becoming a financial institution - just like Uber, they're a taxi service but laws get in the way so they're trying to get technical about how they aren't - Paypal can do whatever they want with no recourse. Real banks have to abide by the law, you can't just go to a branch, say "I didn't get my parcel" and they'll reverse a transaction no questions asked, especially if the buyer has tracking showing it was delivered. They'd be sued to oblivion!

        • @rochow: I got your point, but as I said there is nothing else In market that is similar and popular like PayPal.

I learned my lesson and I will use registered post rather than click and send in future.

        • @CraftVault: Unless they're 80 they should know how to bank transfer.

IMO Paypal is only good for basic international transfers (because you don't need to send them anything other than your email, and it's simple for them and have heard of it).

You said you had tracking, and that tracking shows they received it. If so it's not a postage problem, it's Paypal not caring and just awarding a refund irregardless of fact.

        • @rochow: I did click and send but due to some problem, I had to get another postage via Australia Post LPO and package had 2 tracking numbers.

PayPal picked up click and send tracking number which didn't get scanned at the buyer ends but other tracking number got scanned. (Both tracking numbers got scanned at my end)

This is the problem, I didn't get a chance to update anything on PayPal resolution centre and by looking at the old tracking number, they took the decision.

        • @CraftVault: Unfortunate.

        • @CraftVault:

You need either pos or pod to be eligible for seller protection. It does look like you don't have either of them.

  • I would try both the police and the small claims tribunal. First send an email to the buyer saying that you have proof that it was delivered and state that you are considering going to the police and/or the small claims tribunal. This might do the trick.

    • Tried emailing him saying I will go to cops. No reply yet

Cops don't care, they'll mostly shut you off saying it is civil matter.
        Get the bikies.

        • Cops won't help me? Is it something they can look into it and at least call buyer and confirm details or this is not how it works.

      • I would ignore your email too because that's an empty threat - police won't do anything to assist you.

  • Thanks again everyone. No reply from buyer yet.

  • If his address is close, go to his house and sort this out with him.

    • Buyer is from NSW and I am in WA. This has been very frustrating, wasn't expecting this.

It's called a "double-dip and refund" and as a previous seller on Amazon, this would happen occasionally.

  • This is theft - Do you have insurance to cover this? I guess even if you did, excess might be more than the item.

    • You are right. Excess is more than the cost of product.

  • You can get decisions reversed with PayPal. Call them and discuss what happened and if the agent on the phone is sticking to the script ask for a manager. I've always had excellent outcomes with them. Just be firm and confident making sure you don't let any emotion into it.
