Great deal. Wish this was a deal on the 1tb variant of the bx100, but I can wait a bit longer before i upgrade.

      I solidarse farted

      • How far did the nugget fly?

        • No distance, the arse was solid.

  • +2

Any deals on Samsung EVO 850?

    • you will need to pay about $35 more for that.

      • +3

That's why I ask whether they have a deal on it…

  • Thanks heaps

Is the Crucial BX100 250GB SSD significantly better than the SanDisk SSD Plus 240gb (ignoring 10gb extra storage)?

    • +3

This review makes it look like amazing bang for buck: http://www.anandtech.com/show/9144/crucial-bx100-120gb-250gb…

      • can't really understand. so which one is better?

        • +1

Crucial BX100 is definitely fast than Sandisk Plus. Review linked above compares it to some of the Faster ssd on the market and it's performance is right up there.

        • +1

Crucial is considered more reliable of the two. Given a choice that's what I would go with.

        • +2

Long story short, BX100 punches well above its weight, dollar for dollar with a variation of test types - I was determined that my new machine was going to have a 1TB 850 PRO (Samsung, arguably, the best all round SSD going about at the moment) but the BX100 benchmarks are nearly there, (lagging about 5-10% behind), while the drive is typically 15% cheaper than the Samsung. Makes it very appealing.

    • +3

Generally speaking, you won't really notice a huge difference in the performance of most current gen SSDs. The main decision point really is reliability (Crucial), or any special features you might like (e.g. power loss protection).

I say this as someone who has used SSDs new and old (over about 3 or 4 generations), large and small, consumer-grade and business-grade, and from various manufacturers.

Personally I can only notice a difference when using very old SSDs, e.g. an old Samsung PM800 128gb (with trim support), but even they they are decent when paired with a fast machine, and certainly perform far better than any HDD. Probably the slowest SSD I've used was a 64gb one (forget what brand) from around 2009 or 2010, but they've come a long way since then.

      • +1

Yep, not sure why people mention the speed benchmarks of SSD's. The real world differences are just about negligible, whether it's Samsung, Crucial, Intel, Sandisk etc.

        • That's good to hear, cause I bought the SanDisk last week!

      • +1

Hey thanks RJK, this was easy to understand. Appreciate it

  • +6

Good deal on 250Gb. Waiting for 500Gb.

    • Me too! I didn't bite on the samsung the other day. After that elusive crucial!

  • Was holding out for 500gb, but I think I'll bite for the 250 gb. Thanks TA

  • Great price as always TA and thank you but I have to say I'm a little wary as I ordered a 128gb microSD from SE in the previous deal and although I received an email on the 16th that said it shipped, still nada…

    • +1

      Hi coolrunnings,

Have you start your query with our support team yet?
Would you mind PM me the order id?

      cheers
      SE

      • Thanks for offering to look into it.
I had checked the website and it asked customers to wait 10 working days before contacting the support team, but I was concerned because I got an email saying it had shipped on the 16th and it just usually doesn't take that long to get a letter from NSW to Melbourne.

        • +1

have pm'ed you on what to do next.

  • Thanks guys! got one for my Macbook!

  • Great deal, thanks

  • I had to upvote just for the coupon name.

ordered one BX100, thanks TA and SE!

  • Anyone know if Microsoft have changed their licensing requirements. When I spoke to Microsoft's licencing specialist way back about 7 years ago I was advised that I had to purchase new licenses for all computers that had a new cpu or hard drive. (They considered this a new computer yes..crazy i know)

I was also advised recently that Windows 8 remembers it's key hence the reason why they don't have the keys/stickers on computers anymore. Ultimately I'm Wondering if there's any issue ghosting the old drive image onto the new SSD from a Licencing AND a technical point of view.

    • +2

t Windows 8 remembers it's key hence the reason why they don't have the keys/stickers on computers anymore.

PCs that come with Windows 8, Windows 8.1, and Windows RT have an encrypted product key embedded in their UEFI firmware. When you reinstall the same version of Windows 8 or 8.1 on a PC that came with it, the product key will be automatically applied and activated. You won’t see any product key prompt — it will all happen automatically.

Also note: Microsoft also revised their OEM T&C's to allow transfer of licenses between PC's, if you purchased a whitebox computer from MSY for e.g and you received a system builder's license, you can use it again in your next build provided that you fulfill the following condition:

Can be transferred to new hardware, if removed from the prior PC.

      http://www.microsoft.com/oem/en/licensing/sblicensing/Pages/…

    • +2

Also, you can extract your key from the bios with software and do it the old fashioned way when reinstalling next time. Thankfully.

MS really needs to wake up and start making the isos freely available to download, including OEM discs. Better yet, have only one disc to install any version of windows. Special OEM discs are the bane of people like me (who are acting legally).

      • They do? I've downloaded every copy of windows I've installed for they last few years.. At least 5. Just regular home consumer as well not a sysadmin

  • Don't know why I bought one. Anyway, Crucial + Sandisk = Solid, how come TA :D ?

  • You're Super tightarse

  • +3

250GB, therefore should show up as about 232GB in Windows ??

  • Can you tell me about the warranty on both?

    Cheers

    • +1

Say 3 years on their website.

Cheers StoreRep, just got a Cruical.

      • +1

        cheers mate

    • +1

both have 3 years manufacturer's warranty

  • 3 years warranty is good, but I like the 5 year warranty on Samsung SSDs even more :)

  • +2

Not a big fan of Crucial ssd lately, still waiting for the Samsung Evo 850 hot deals, bring it back please, cheers!!!

  • Bought. Thank you.

  • +1

Somehow read that as solid snake…

  • Thanks TA, was waiting on a good SSD deal for a 250GB, missed out on the previous sandisk one because the code wouldnt work.

  • Ordered & paid for 250gb crucial one last night.
Any chance of receiving it by this Friday in VIC METRO rep?
    cheers!

    • +1

Yes, very likely to receive by or before friday.

      • +1

        cheers mate!!

  • Come on TA, get back on the SD card deals!

  • Fantastic deal! however I am waiting for Crucial MX200 250 Gb… any possibilities?

  • How does the BX100 compare to the M550? Beside M550 being slightly faster which in real life I think will be hardly noticeable. Not sure if I should hold out for a M550 sales or bite the bullet on this one.

  • Thanks OP, ordered!

  • Oh my. This is real a good deal. Ordered a Toshiba 240G ssd last Tue for $125 at SE, but I do not receive it. Call the CS, said nothing can do but wait.

    • seemed a bit longer than usual waiting time for you. Would you like to PM me your ticket ID?

      cheers

    • +1

      Hi joshmachine,

      Yes it will be.

      • +1

        Thanks, will order one. Cheers
        Ordered :)

  • I wish there were some mSATA drives at similar prices.

  • I have a ques: how do you install these as the boot drive/windows drive if you no longer have the windows 7 CD ? (computer was built - oem key)

    • +1

Download the version of Windows you have off their website and create a DVD from the iso image and use that - assuming you have the key.

Or clone the drive to the SSD (not recommended)

      • yes, you are right, thank you
I do not want to clone, probably just go for the fresh install route.
as for the key - the system was pre built for me, it did not come with the cd or cd key, is there anyway I can find out the cd key? I know its a legit and not a pirated version for sure.

        • +2

There is few ways to find the serial but software is the easiest way. Try something like Magical Jelly Bean

      • Or clone the drive to the SSD (not recommended)

Not recommended - why? I am planning to do this as then don't have to look for keys etc.

        • It can get tricky cloning to a smaller ssd.
Also you need to make sure you get cloning software that will optimise the sector size for ssd.

Even then, cloning doesn't always work 100% of the time. You may need to boot your Windows DVD and do a Startup Repair 3 times (yes three)

As above - Magical Jelly Bean or similar products will grab your Windows key and maybe Office

You will need to manually find your other keys if you have any

        • @Frig:

do you know if I can use any old windows 7 CD lying around (borrow A friend's one) and just input the serial of my own computer?

        • @jaykay:

As long it is the same version then yes. They key is not tied to the DVD.

If you have Win 7 Home Premium 32bit OEM you will need that DVD
Same if it is Win 7 Pro 64bit OEM you will need that DVD.

There is a page on Microsoft website where you can download the .iso files for each version. Not sure where - I'm sure someone will post a link.

        • @Frig:

cheers mate!! you have been a great help

on a side note: my ssd was just shipped out today! anyone else? after ordering last night!

        • @jaykay:

          No worries :)

  • Any deal for 2 of the BX100?

  • out of interest how many SSDs did you sell with the solidarse code? And as a percentage of your stock?

  • Only concerned the 250GB's write speed is only like 350MB/s. Probably shouldn't matter depending on purpose though.

    • Mate, I can't tell the difference between a 550MB/s and a 200MB/s running off a sata 2 port.

It's all about the iops and latency that makes the difference. This drive is excellent.

      • That would be because SATA 2 is 300MB/s

        • Sorry, I should have said a 550MB/s of a SATA 3 port as opposed to a 200MB/s off a SATA 2 port.

          Thanks :)

  • Would the BX100 be compatible on my Qnap TS-453 Pro as an SSD Cache?

  • Hi Rep,

How long does it take for direct deposit to clear? I place the order and make the payment yesterday morning. It is still showing up as payment's due on the order status.

By experience CBA to CBA transfer is instant.

    • It's instant but we receive and process the statement 1 day delay. Please PM me the ticket ID so i can have a quick check for you.

      Cheers
      SE

      • Thanks Rep, have PM you.
