I got same specs tv 2 years back from dicksmiths for $210….

    • Was it a brand name TV like Sharp, Samsung, Sony, LG, Panasonic.

      • Link please or it didn't happen.

        • I bet he's quoting a cheap yumcha sort of TV like Soniq. Wants to compare specs alone but what about panel quality but brand name is generally of a higher quality and hence the slightly higher price. You could say these two TV's both have 720p in the specs but one may have awful video and the other looks better because of a better quality panel.

        • +6

          @hollykryten:

when you say 'yumcha' are you trying to imply the tv would drink Chinese tea and eat dim sum?

      • +1

Srry holly i accidentally minus voted u by mistake, I'll have to check when I get home. But with warranties 3 years on TV s these days why does it matter as long as picture/ sound is the same

        • +1

The thing is not all panels of different branded TV's are of the same quality even though they have the same specs. The really cheap TV's would be using a second rate panel.

    • +2

Please remember this is NOT an El Cheapo no name TV. It's a Sharp Aquos. It will have a better panel and processing than any of these no name TV.

      • +1

Yes that's what i'm trying to tell them. The cheap no name TV's would be using a second rate quality panel. Brand name TV's like this Sharp Aquos use better quality panels in their TV's. So you can't compare specs alone, panel quality is even more important.

  • +4

Not full HD, but it has an RS-232 port!
    How old is this model?

    • +9

      late 2011

if you acccept that a no name 32" 720p panel is $200 then maybe 50% more for a brand name is acceptable but its hard to take if you can get 40" FHD DSE panels for under $300 on special

no matter how good this screen is it is 32" 720p and thats a difficult sell in 2015

  • +2
  • +6

    720p Stay away….

    • Why?

      • +5

Well, it's older tech but for current FTA television it's perfectly adequate.

      • +3

        I can give you 360 reasons! :)

    • +3

      I think a 32" 720p TV is quite fine for a bedroom.

      • yeah at that size I don't really think it makes that much difference. especially as most FTA is still 720p (or less) anyway

      • Perfect for a bedroom.

        • +2

Im sorry mate but in my relatively small 3.5mx3m bedroom (or maybe standard size to many people), i use a 40" 1080p LED samsung.

32" 720p doesnt float my boat.

        • @nairdajun: And here I was feeling stupid for having a 47" at the end of the bed…

        • @nairdajun:
I have a 26inch lcd and it is perfectly fine for me.

        • @Tiggrrrrr: Dont worry. After my parents used a 40" in their room for awhile, dad decided he wanted a 50" at the end of his bed (master bedroom approx 6mx6m)

        • @PVA: Well, cant judge you or comment about your taste, but 26" is only slightly bigger than my 24" monitor, and that is already for me way too small to watch anything with subtitles. I also have one of those samsung 27" 3D monitor/TVs and although nice, still too small for a viewing distance of 3.5m

    • +3

I didn't know that 1366*768 TV panels were still being made.

      • +1

kogan is still regularly selling HD 32" panels for $200

but kogan lol who buys that shit

      • +2

You need to get out more, it's harder to find a 32" Full HD these days than HD.

    • +2

My 32in 720p Changhong looks sharper than my 50in 1080p Panasonic plasma from 2011.
It really doesn't matter unless you're using as a PC monitor

  • +5

When was this model released? Before or after the millennium party?

  • +4

Looks like a 5 year old design and spec. love the "narrow" bezel description.
I bought a 40" Changhong that looks like a current design and is 1080p it cost $10 more with 3 year warranty.

  • +10

4 days ago this was $395!

Don't quote RRP when you don't sell it for that!

    • +2

still a discount but get your point.. seems like they are trying to dump stock of a very old model.

      i would stay away.

      • +1

By saying its a 2 day sale, implies it will go back to RRP, when it won't. Also shows a misrepresentation of the actual discount.

      • +1

It is a current model. Please see link to Sharp Website. $549 is Sharp Australia's RRP

        http://www.sharp.net.au/product-catalogue/products/LC32LE155…

        • Maybe you should put the model number in the description.

        • just because its the 'current model' doesn't mean it up to date with technology, it just means the vendor hasn't released new models.

Epson sell a 9 pin dot matrix printer, but i wouldn't suggest someone looking for a printer to buy one. Unless they specifically need a dot matrix continuous paper printer - cant think of a reason to buy a 32" tv with old tech/panel.

        • Sharp don't look like they've updated their website in 5 years either…

        • It is NOT a current model. Sharp has stopped selling Tv in Australia altogether.

But Shapr TVs are good. They used to be the one of the biggest LCD/LED manufacturer. They made quality panels. But failing to catch up with time sort of killed off Sharp.

We've got a 52" inches Aquo from 10 years ago and still going strong.

        • @googleyahoo69: They haven't stopped selling televisions, just no new models, effective from May 2015. "Joe Constantino Sales and Marketing Manager at Sharp Australia he said "We are out of LED TV's. We had intended on offering our new 2015 range but after evaluation of the Australian market we have chosen to quit the market and we are now running out the current stock we have in the channel"."

It's a pity because I can't fault my 60" Sharp, apart from the menu. It was having some issues with avi playback, but sorted after latest firmware update.

    • We have sold it for $549. $395 was a discounted price.

      • +3

        How long ago?

        • +3

          5 years ago probably

        • @registradus: Given that all Sharp TVs are now being "cleared" I would be a bit dubious about any quoted RRP. Also I pity anyone that bought a Sharp tv recently and coughed up for the extended warranty. Good luck with a new for old replacement.

  • To be honest, most of the Aquos TVs I've seen at JB look very washed out. I think Soniq have a better picture.

Having said that, I am still using a 30 inch Aquos I bought in 2004, no complaints with it.

  • +2

I bought the Aldi one, same size, same price, but it is a Full HD! Anyone else did the same? :P

  • +2

This has an ugly border and is only 720p. You would be a happier with a modern looking 1080p el cheapo.

    • +2

But the picture could be worse on the el cheapo.

      • nup, i don't believe that

        • +2

I think it could be possible.

        • @luke73: i bet you buy the branded milk over the coles milk believe there is a difference too

        • +5

You shop at Coles! I shop at Aldi, it's $0.01 cheaper for milk.
I always do my research before buying anything, I would never say all el cheapo 1080p TV's are better than a Sharp.

  • These are a great TV

I bought a similar model years ago. The picture and even sounds are very good and at a reaosnable viewing distance it is hard to tell the difference from 1080

    Chris

Just fyi Sharp is pulling out of TVs in Australia.
won't affect warranty or whatever… just fyi.

  • OP, does it have that extra yellow sub-pixel that Sulu can see? PS. Can anyone else see it?

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M4DK1Yx4R6k

  • Would I be better off with this or the FHD from Aldi or something else? I wished I'd bought one at its lowest price point.

  • Thanks. The 3 years warranty is a plus for the Changhong but I'd have to live with the name for however long it lasted. Would I regret not having FHD I wonder? Only SBS puts their best content on FHD. Are the old shows from the 60-70s in FHD? I see the Changhong is sold out in my closest stores and its pick up and collect only so not to worry.
