  • Welcome to OzBargain Cobrin. Any relation to cobrin®© on Whirlpool?

If anyone's curious, these are Bluetooth Smart rather than Ant+.

    • Thankyou Thrift, the one and only that's me.

      Spot on for Btooth4 also.

I bagged 3 smart watches, sleeve blood pressure monitor and smart scales. I was initially going to go fitbit or Navman/Garmin?!? equivalent but to dip the toe in (to try out) but to hand out the other two and have the other devices won me over. The app is good on a One+1 phone (Lollipop 5.1.1) so not just for S3/4/5 or iOS.

Seems to work accurately when you have your phone on you more so than the fitband itself. Yet to try the BPM and Smart scales. No doubt using the accelerometer/GPS/Other in the phone.

The vibrating notifications tickle my wrist so there's no missing anything when in loud environments/situations.

  • anyone confirm this is in other kmarts?

    • +1

I know that the sleeve blood pressure monitor was $15 in Kmart Eaton (WA) two weeks ago. So I would say it is nation wide.

  • +1

I've been using the Actiiv chest strap HRM for the last few months when it was on sale for $25.

The battery should last a year, is easily replaceable and the unit is washable.

It works just as good as my last Polar chest HRMs, great buy for $15.

  • +1

These are stupidly high quality. No idea why they aren't selling. Because I LIKE the idea of being active, I got the wrist BPM monitor. Works great. (I already have a proper cuff one).

  • +2

Yes this is confirmed as Nationwide, but has already been on clearance for some time so stock will vary between stores

  • The only problem is that the iOS apps don't talk to Healthkit (at least the blood pressure one) and I can't seem to get it to play with any other blood pressure apps on the appstore that do talk to healthkit.

Any idea if you can get the heart rate monitor to talk to a garmin vivosmart??

Also I can confirm these have been $15 for quite some time, i've seen them at this price in at least 5 kmarts across south east Queensland..

    • Any idea if you can get the heart rate monitor to talk to a garmin vivosmart?

It's not compatible as the Vivosmart uses Ant+ (i.e. they speak a different language).

  • Picked up the HRM strap $15 at kmart Churchill centre SA. Maybe one left. No scales, one cuff left.
Having issues pairing on both android and ios. Can see sensor in Android but says the HR monitor rejected the pairing.Pull battery out etc but issue remains.

    • Have you checked the compatibility?

      This is from the website.

Devices below using iOS 7.0 and above
      * iPhone 4S and above
      * iPod Touch 5th Gen and above
      * iPad 4 and above

Devices below using Android 4.3 and above
      *Samsung Galaxy S4 and above
      *Samsung Note II and above

I had to update my Note II to Android 4.3 just to get it to pair.

      • It does work with other android phones in addition to S4 and Note. Any android 4.3 device supporting BLE 4.0 should work.

        • +1

Tomorrow I'm going to setup my mothers pink one, she has a SGS3 on telstra's latest firmware (which is old) so I'll tell a how I go. It's working fine with my fathers SGS5 and my Oneplus1.

  • Finally got it working with iHealth on iPhone 5s, it also works with android 5.0 using runkeeper -sony xperia zr1 compact, without pairing, but not yet with strava. Will do some further analysis tonight using other HR apps.

    • Ok now have it working with android strava, but the trick was I had to find it in Wahoo utility, wahoo fitness and BLE heart rate monitor apps first. It does not pair as a bluetooth device via the phone bluetooth menu -apparently this is a common issue for BLE 4.0 devices.

  • Plenty of stock for actiiv fit watch and actiiv hr monitor.. No scales or no cuffs at belmont kmart

    little update

I stuffed up the pairing of the sleeve BPM but will try again when I've got the time, so I currently manually input the results.

I didn't realise with a txt or email you can swipe and read the txt, or email subject title. That's nice…That and the alarms I've set, they are working brilliantly, you have to set those up inside the Actiiv App. I've got a few now ie. wakeup/school pickup, the kinds that are always constant. Notifications from the calendar/email/ect.. still come trough but are separate kinda deal.

I've sent a few messages within the app to my father but I'm not sure he's getting them or knows about them. I only just setup app notifications for him today.

Oh I was wrong it's sufficiently accurate without the phone with me, it's the little few steps (here & there) that aren't picked up sometimes. I'm not concerned with that. Whilst it would be nice I don't need my pulse/heart rate.

at the end of day 2 battery life is currently 58%. I've had a fair whack of vibrating alarms/notifications too and can't stop playing with it at times so it's doing well.

  • I have an Galaxy S4 running 4.4.2. Having trouble pairing with the HRM. How do you even tell if the device is working?

    • +1

It won't pair in the OS bluetooth settings.

You need to download a program such as 'BLE Heart Rate Monitor' to get it to work.

      • Yep, what cObalt said. Can't pair with this BLE device through the normal phone BT settings.

        • I have tries strava, wahoo and run keeper. The firt two were recommended by actiiv. None of there were successful. Will try the suggested app above when i get home.

  • Just heard that Kmart Hornsby (NSW) has Fitbands in black and teal, lots of heart rate monitors, lots of wrist blood pressure monitors, and several scales.

  • Yep my mother's sgs3 on android 4.3 works fine with both fitband sleeve BPM and the smart scales, as does my oneplus1 very happy. Scales sync really well with keeweight no issues.

  • Picked up HRM from Kmart Belconnen (Canberra) today. Had everything besides the scales still in stock.

  • Can anybody tell me if the HRM works without the phone.
Does it store the data from a workout on the device so you can sync later?
I don't want to keep my phone on or near me when working out.
If it does, any idea how much data it stores (number of days?)

    • +1

Phone required. I think it transmits instant data only. Occasionally there is a break in transmission and there does not seem to be any catch up data.

      • +1

Ok, thought that might be the case (as with most of them I believe)
        cheers

    • it stores data but I don't know for how long, I've not tested how far you could go. I had about 12hrs since the last sync and when finally doing it, it had the previous days total data and up to the current day/time.

You don't need your phone on you when active, I initially thought you did but after walking the kids to school and walking to pick them up at the end of the day, it updated the app later that night when I turned on BT and the app. I usually have the phone on me because I do like receiving email and txt messages which you can read on the fitband. Email headder and full txt mess. Alarms set on the phone won't work but alarms set in the app and sync'd to the fit band do for obvious reasons (without the phone on you).

      • Hi Cobrin - are you talking about the fitband rather than the heart rate monitor?

        • Yes he is. The HRM is just a sensor with Bluetooth Smart, you need to pair it with a fitness tracker (like the Fitband) or smart-phone/watch to log the data.

        • @Thrift:
Oh cheers thrift, looks like I've mistakenly answered robotdad and wrongly in reference to the fitband and not the HRM. Sorry davlap my mistake.

        • @Cobrin:
          Ok thanks guys
Stroppy son won't let me use his S4, mine is not BT 4, so will have to try when I get a new phone!

        • @Cobrin: no probs.

  • To anyone that has the heart rate monitor: is it always permanently on? There is no on/off switch. Doesn't this drain the battery quickly if it's on 24/7?
Also, anybody have difficulty taking the battery out? I keep on twisting it, but it doesn't pop open.

    • i think you may have to rotate the cover and align it to fall out then tap it on your palm to help it out. Now whether or not it needs to be 90Deg or 180Deg turn is anyones guess. I could be wrong lol…

      • I aligned it so that the open arrow matches the other arrow, but it won't budge open no matter how matter how many times I tap/bang it.

        • It's BLE. So it's constantly sending a super low energy bluetooth signal and won't start measuring HR until it's paired with a device.

Battery will last for around a year. No need to take rotate the cap or take it out to conserve battery life.

  • This thread is a bit old now, but I have just got the scales.

Anybody know which decent android apps can be used.
The Keeweight app works, but no sharing or exporting options.

I want to sync/save online, otherwise no point weighing electronically then manually typing it in online.
