Sunbeam Rice Perfect Rice Cooker - RC2350 $5 was $29.95 @Target.In-store only.

With one-touch cooking, and an automatic keep warm function, this rice cooker holds 5 cups of rice to produce approximately 10 cups of cooked rice - enough to feed a large family gathering. It also features a non-stick, dishwasher safe cooking bowl as well as a rice paddle and a measuring cup.

    Treat yourself and get one with fuzzy logic. Might cost more than $5 but will produce better results and over the life of the product the cost is negligible.

  • I echo the comment about getting one with fuzzy logic (ie Panasonic).
    Funny thing is that I don't own one, but anyone big into their rice cooking goes straight to a Pana.

        • Anyone know where to get the non-stick interior "container" for the panasonic cooker? I bought mine from Asia but the non-stick is starting to peel badly and I need to replace just the tin pot. I did look whilst I was wandering around in places in KL but no one knew where to get them from…

          Ring Panasonic direct, they will have a spares departmenmt like most places which will point oyu in the right direction.

    • My tiger cost ~$250. It might make better rice than this $5 one but I'd rather save the money and have average rice. My family are the fussy rice connoisseurs :|

        My Sunbeam cooker can do excellent rice. It can also do terrible rice. I find it's down to the quality of the rice, to begin with. Rinsing (first) several times is key - Although some rices seem to never rinse clean!

        I'm miles from an expert. But I've had enough rice to know mine's decent - And better than my local Chinese & Thai restaurant.

        Clean, fluffy, flavoursome.

        They're doing something very wrong.

        • We always rinse the rice, but I read the other day you're not supposed to. It makes it more fluffy, not stick together, or something!?

        • @realfamilyman: I've read it many places, but you could be right. I like fluffy. That's what the directions wrre aiming for. SO many different rices/outcomes though.

          My local shop uses multiple Cuckoo rice cookers, depending on the rice used.

          Know I'm late to this - just found it again… That's what I meant - I was reading online somewhere, that NOT rinsing makes it more fluffy. We've always rinsed. So I might try not rinsing.

        • @realfamilyman: Serious? Now I'm really confused. I've seen some 60sec spots on TV, over the years, showing ALL sorts of mistakes people make with cooking. I'll be doing some research now. Never hurts to learn different ways.

  • Do these keep rice warm for a long time?
    There are awesome ones you can get in japan that can stay warm for a couple days and the rice doesn't dry out.

    • Defnitely not. THere will be a warm function but the rice quality will deteriorate quickly after it's finished.

  • Can someone explain to me the advantages a Tiger or Pana would have over this or any cheapo rice cooker?
    I use basmati rice, where the ideal way is to have it "separate separate".
    This can only be achieved by the tedious task of washing the rice over and over.
    I cook the rice on a gas stove and depending on the quality of the rice, it comes up pretty good.

    I saw these tiger and fuzzy logic machines all the time at my asian mates houses back when I was in school, what do they do that's different?

      Put simply a cheap one basically measures weight (I believe) when it's cooked, more expensive ones have sensors to control the cooking cycle. Ones with fuzzy logic will produce the same quality every time, and the design usually means the quality will be maintained for hours afterwards. I've had a cheap one and I had a routine, turn it off just before it stops bubbling and the rice would come out perfect, and it would deteriorate by the time I went for seconds. The better ones take the idiosyncracies out of it, and you can wash some rice and set a timer (if you want) and it can be ready when you get home, or stay warm for hours after. The better ones usually take longer because there's a soak time to start, but there may be a rapid setting to bypass this.
