every ozbargainer must have a chromecast after the officeworks $25 deal
Well, I missed out :(
not me, i missed out
I had two in the cart, right at end of purchase, and they were taken from me!
Yeah not me either, I bought it at $31 on the bing lee group eBay deal the week earlier - typical !
wouldn't a raspberry pi be more better?
more stuff can be done with it.
harder to set up
no netflix.
more expensive
harder to use (ie grandma approved)
and the list goes on
no that hard much more harder
unless u are a oldie generation
IT is not that much more expensive either from the deals I seen here
@tyler.durden:
the rpi's only limitation is arm. it's capable, but my $79 server uses 10w of power (max), runs Plex, PS3MS and Windows shares over GbE and WiFi 5Ghz. Blows the old rPi out of the water.
@Droidyy:
What is this $79 server? Any more details?
I missed out so I went and bought one that night at HN for $39 :(
I cashed in and got three :)
Beats the $48 Officeworks wanted to charge me.
$24 would have been nice if they would have sold it to me at that price.
The majority of orders haven't been fulfilled going by the comments.
Like someone said, since the $24.50 deal, no one's going to want to pay over $25 now
Chromecast is the new Eneloop !!!!
I thought microSDs were the new Eneloop
Chromecast is the new microSD then!
Dyson V6 is the current hit. ^_^
Ow price match $33.23
I get $39.98 in the app and on website.
Same how are they getting a lower price in the app. I have $10 referral credit I want/need to use and if I could get the app price I would buy.
The coupon code REWARD1 seems to take $5 off. I wanted to clarify something. In the original post, it says $34.98 delivered. Is it meant to be that price after delivery costs are added? Because my current total is $44.98.
Try re-enter the code REWARD1 again.
Got it to work now. Thanks!
@BlitzKing:
Coupon works got me but in the app the base price is 39.99 not 35 as stated
EDIT: ahh OK I looked at the screen shot and it's the discount that changes he is getting $15 discount in the app - I am only getting 10 logged in or not… Hrm
Thanks to johnno1987 for the tips, YMMV
Try logging out. Add item to cart, put in postcode and then apply coupon code. Will ask you to sign in. This showed up as $5 discount for me. Then I entered the coupon code again, and $15 discount applied. Just tried it on another account and worked again.
Looks like COTD are cashing in on the stock they probably bought from the Officework deal
That would explain that ebayer who brodened 150
For Chromecast, they should provide the code as "RIPOFF1". What a rip-off after applying the code and still pay $10 more.
Thanks, I needed a second chromecast and it's just too cold to leave the house and this is cheaper delivered than HN.
Have tried re-entering the code several times now to no effect. Still comes up as 44.98 with shipping. :(
so for all we know some guy could have bought all the stock up afew days ago and now flogging them for 34.95…
$35 includes shipping. It says the deal comes from Dick Smith though… Maybe they bought them all from OW?
Currently on sale at Harvey Norman for $39.
I purchased one but I cannot get it to work with USA Netflix, have tried everything.
Can anyone had success and help with a DD-WRT router?
Turn on your VPN on your Android, set it to US IP. Start Netflix app cast to chrome cast.
This works at the Android level but the Chromecast still uses Google DNS settings which doesn't allow for the region change. I've read you need to bypass the inbuilt Chromecast DNS settings with special command settings on your router. Just can't get it to work.
Now I'm not expert at this but this is what I would do.
Can you set up your VPN on your router so it routes all data?
Use 2 devices set one up as an WiFi extension, run VPN through it, set up chromecast on extension. Set up second device. And cast away.
I know these probably aren't the best, but there all I can think off. I would just use a HDMI adapter for your phone or a laptop.
I have Netflix USA working on all devices (using a SmartDNS and VPN service) except for the Chromecast, I cannot bypass the DNS settings on the Chromecast as they are hard-coded.
There are plenty of instructions on the internet to follow such as http://support.smartdnsproxy.com/customer/portal/articles/14…, just hoping someone has done something similar and can point me in the right direction.
have you tried this:
http://cord-cutters.wonderhowto.com/how-to/root-your-chromec…
@hedo68:
Use static routes on your router to redirect any google dns requests back to your router ip.
@stingymonkey: This ^^. Works great for me.
More effective static route is to your alternative DNS, like a uflix or unotelly DNS. It fools the Chromecast into thinking it's talking to Google DNS. This avoids the delay when starting up, when it tries to contact the Google DNS a couple of times first.
wouldn't a raspberry pi be more better?
more stuff can be done with it.
Problem with the pi is that it isn't really "plug and play". You'll have to spend some time to build an openELEC or RaspBMC image and those that do not fidget around with computers will most certainly face some difficulty in doing so.
I been looking at some guides on the net and it does not look that hard
Just copy the image to the SDcard using the software..
Then install Kodi.
Once that is the done, it would be so much more better than a simple chromecast.
Kodi got some many more cool addons than a chromecast.
====
Anyway I will definitely be looking at some raspi deals from now on.
Yeh but no Netflix.. (I use Kodi with Rpi2)
cool.
how smooth is the playback for the movies at 1080p and 720p,
-local files using wifi and LAN
-streaming movie addons
Also can we playback hevc videos yet or in the future?
====
does Kodi have netflix addon?
Very fast compared to the Rpi original.. No problems with playback from my NAS over wired LAN. I don't use any wifi dongle so can't comment on wifi performance.
There is no addon available for Netflix.
How much did it cost
including
-case
-power supply
-memory card
Can u list the cost breakdown for the parts?
Where did u buy it from?
===
I am really interested in this..
If we don't care about netflix, then the rpi2 would be a better purchase?
Yes, Kodi is an excellent media player.. buy Rpi2 and accessories here..
Doesn't seem to be working for me.
After applying the code i get message "coupon conditions have not been met "
still only $10 off even on mobile
I cannot get $15 off, only $5 off for me, the coupon code says conditions have not been met.
It works for me now. I was trying on a new account but when I tried an old account it worked.
DEAL CURRENTLY WORKING. I just bought via app for $34.98
I'd tried with REWARD1 on my account, it's not working. I think it's targeted this time, though the $5 discount still available in the app.
I mean, is it really a bargain considering what happened a few days ago?
