CTEK MXS 5.0 12V 5A+ Battery Charger $99 @ Repco

490

Great battery charger for your 12v car/boat/bike batteries. Very handy if you are going away and need to keep your car on a trickle charge.

Very good price for an in-store pickup. Surprisingly, I can't even find it cheaper online.

Note: not for Eneloops.

  • Great price. I have the older version and it is top quality.

These are usually $99-105 onine with free delivery.

Cheapest on eBay at the moment is $105 and eBay has been sending out 10% off coupons to members which makes it $93.60

Also you can buy it here for $98.95 with free delivery any time (with $20 silicone protective case):

Still if you have a local Repco and wanted one it wouldn't hurt to pick on up from there for only a little more.

    • $20??

      How's this for $64.00 lol

      $35 charger with this case?

    • +1

They must have seen either my post or the Repco catalogue lol. Just before I posted this deal, their website showed $115 delivered.

    • i also remember i bought a similar charger from aldi for way less than the price listed in OP.

      • -1

Bought 2 of the ones your talking about, ive noticed my local aldi still has them in the cabinet often so they must sell well.

Think they were only $20-$30 each (from memory) and from what I gather from reading online are basically the same charger as this one - they have the trickle function once its fully charged which is all I was looking for.

The one in the link I posted above says 5 year Australian warranty.

      • +1

Cheers, I do like a nice 5 year Australian warranty

      Their warranty policy breaches ACL.

  • So its pick up today for $99 at local Repco, or wait a week and get it 5c cheaper and silicone cover…..

    Is the cover worth it?

    • +1

Definitely worth the silicone cover(Specially at no extra cost), I purchased one from Gadget city about 3 months ago to trickle charge my Jetski AGM battery over winter. It provides great protection for the body in case It is dropped , provides a good grip if you have to place it on a slippery surface, keeps it higher off the ground to avoid water.

  • why are they so many different stage and Amp for these battery chargers?
    Which one should I buy?
I am looking at this one, seems similar to the repco one

    • +4

The ctek is not a Repco brand one. Its a much better quality charger than the calibre SCA one on your link.
For $25 more, your getting a better charger all round.
I was actually looking to get the MXS5 in the next few days when this post came up.
Fitted the mxs5 to my campervan and I chose the best for my 100 amp gel service battery.
      About to get another

    • +2

If your going to spend 70 bucks anyway, spend the extra 30 bucks and buy the Ctek everytime….

It has a 5 year warranty also..

      Goodluck..

  • Good price for local stock. I ordered the older model for about $140 online a while ago. I,d like to see the 15amp model on sale to use for the boat

  • Isn't cheaper just to fix the alternators on your cars guys? :P

    • Some of us have cars that we infrequently drive - these are fantastic to leave connected when not in use.

My alarm system drains my battery in 1 - 2 weeks, very annoying without a maintaining charger like this.

      • I have the same problem.
I got a little solar maintenance charger which was doing the job but hadn't driven it for over a month and after a couple of weeks of cloudy weather I now have another flat battery so looks like I'm biting the bullet and grabbing one of these.

I guess I'll wait for a week for the bonus case however that Gadgetcity page at the link was just about jarring enough to put me off!

    • I charge my battery with my ctek before any winter. Alternators will not charge a battery 100%. Battery's die in cold cranking conditions and charging them above and beyond what your car does will prolong its lifespan dramatically.

  • I keep my Husky connected to this charger. The light weight battery in the bike costs about $215 to replace so it's worth keeping it in good condition. Besides the terminal clamps, the charger comes with a dust proof quick connector you wire to your battery's terminals so you can disconnect your charger and ride away. This charger is great for bikes, jetskis, mowers, etc but I'd probably choose something bigger to deep charge vehicle batteries.

There are two 8 step MXS 5.0 chargers listed on CTEK website.
The one pictured in catalogue shows the "MXS 5.0", but the little code in the model description on same page says "MXS 5.0T".
The "T" version is slightly different (better). Can anyone confirm which model they have instore?

The battery and alternator testing function on the T model would be handy! (and at this price would be an even better bargain!)

    • +1

according to the web listing of gadgetcity :"THE CTEK 5.0T , HAS NO MARKINGS AS "5.0T" NOR DOES THE BOX , THERE IS NO GENUINE CTEK CHARGER WITH "5.0T" ON IT THE "T" IS USED IN SOME OF THE MARKETING INFORMATION , AND "T" BEING FOR TEMPERATURE COMPENSATION WHICH THIS UNIT HAS"

  • This is commonly on sale at Repco. In saying that, its a great charger. Its perfect for motorbikes as it charges at 700mA where as car only chargers at >4A just overpower the battery and it appears 'full' and dont charge properly. My only gripe with the unit is that its a slippery little bugger.

  • I love this baby charger. Even at only 5 Amp it can revive a flat battery to starting power in about an hour. Good enough for me.

$99 may not be spectacular, but a good price from a bricks/mortar store if you need it today/soon.

    • So does this just plug into the power point at homes diff you go?
Been looking to replace our old car battery charger.
Will this charge a completely flat battery?

      • +1

My understanding is that when a battery is completely dead it's quite harmful to the battery and loses a lot of its capacity. But I think this could recharge what is left of it.

Tks op & ezarc, end up buying from gadget online because of the free bumper case. Review from online is awesome, hope it can live up to the expectation.
I bought an Optima 3 years ago for my EVO which rarely driven nowadays (only use on the weekend once or max twice a week, less than 5000 km per year) due to driving more on the SUV.
I believe the battery is great but due to my mis-handling of the charging (from normal old projecta 12V AC charger) and numerous jump starts it shorten the battery life.
Now I bought a brand new optima again and I will make certain to use this properly to keep my car going.
I love the fact they have the connectors which you can leave in the car and makes connection so much easier, and I can also leave it connected during the week which ensures hassle free during the weekend, there was so many times when I jump into the car and found the battery is flat and I'll have to jump start it. (Was even considering taking off the connectors on the battery when not use but it becomes so troublesome when I needed to use my car again.)

I have a Optima too (D35 yellow top) in my WRX, the alarm system uses quit a bit of power and if not started for a few weeks the battery will be dead but at least with the optima there is no negative effects from depleting the battery unlike regular batteries.

I bought the Noco Genius G7200 charger which I love but I did consider this CTEK charger as well.

Also because I do short trips I changed my 60A alternator for a 110A alternator out of a newer WRX that I picked up on a forum for $40 so the battery will get full quicker, and I dont remember all the details right now but there is a fuse you can change to a blade fuse with circuits inside that will let the Optima batteries charge to their full potential as the standard system is only optimal for lead acid batteries. If your interested I can look it up again for you, I plan to buy one oneday.

      • Tks once again ezarc, my days for putting my head into every single thing I can modify my car has gone as my kids fully occupied my spare time.
It is a brilliant idea to modify the alternator for quicker charge and also doing things to the fuse to work with an AGM battery will be very useful!
