Discovery Sports Vs AUDI Q7

I'm tossing between two different brands and trim level.

2015 Audi Q7 3.0 TDI Limited Edition quattro - $95k with Sunroof [minus metallic paint]

2015 Discovery Sports HSE Lux - $87k [with all options available]

Would like to hear some discussion in regards to the Audi 3L, V6 vs Discovery Sports 2.2L, V4 against all the extra technology stuff you get in LR discovery sports.

LR Disco Sport extra options: Heated folding mirrors and auto dip functions, 5+2 seats, Fixed sunroof, touch screen, perforated climate seats+heated rear seats, 17 speaker + 825 watts, Autonomous emergency break, adaptive cruise control, Tyre pressure monitor and lane departure warning

Against

Sunroof, no metallic paint and audi connect.

Hard to imagine a guy spending 100 grand on a new car would be the one cleaning it.

im sure plenty of people who spend 100 grand on a car clean it themselves

  • Disco sports is the replacement for the freelander, which is more in the q5 class. I don't know your preferences for options but as this is ozbargain, I'm leaning towards the q7 because it's one class up for similar money. Plus, if you're paying a lot for options you generally don't see that money again when it comes to selling time.

    • I was completely thinking the opposite. I thought the resale value may also depend on all those EXTRA options too.

      • The added options will likely make it easier to sell if the car's not too old but you don't recover the added cost of those options.

If the car is older, some options can scare off a buyer as it's something else to go wrong. No big deal if it's swinging air vents, but things like air suspension will be an issue as the car ages.

  • how long do you want to keep the car?

  • At least 10 year

    • in that case avoid the Audi. Was told by a car wholesaler recently who deals in luxury cars that once Audi's loose their warranty period then they develop issues that are very expensive to repair in AU.

        Normally I'd agree with you.

But in this case it is up against a Land Rover, which itself has a notorious reputation for longevity. So the odds aren't very high either way.

Compared to LR servicing, Audi servicing may actually be more affordable.

Agreed, Land Rover is not much better.

  • Hmm, now you guys made me worry. Can't really digest that "prestigious" car may not survive beyond their warranty period.

    • Prestigious does not always equal quality. At your price range, and if you want to keep it a long time, get a Lexus.

  • Anyone heard about the website carquotesonline

  • I think an Audi for 10 years should be fine with maybe one or two issues, however if you're unlucky it will cost you a fortune to fix.

I wouldn't buy a Q7 today, I'd wait for the new model coming next year.

I'd buy a VW Touareg instead… basically same car. http://www.caradvice.com.au/331516/2015-volkswagen-touareg-p…

I'm an European car fan and am happy to trade off some reliability issues for their driving dynamics.

If you don't really care about cars and wish to keep it for 10 years, then I'd recommend the Toyota Prado or Kia Sorento. The Kia has a 7 year warranty.
